It was a quiet morning in the Potter household, but not for long. Sunlight trickled delicately in through the gaps in James curtains. This early in the morning the house looked picturesque. Toys strewn across the floor, dishes unwashed in the sink and a pile of freshly washed little socks. All distinctively negative but when bathed in sunlight give off an entirely different feeling. A feeling of home. Slowly James begins to wake up, he stands from the couch on which he had unceremoniously fallen asleep last night and brings to out toys back into their correct place. Everything is peaceful until and shrill shriek pierces through the quiet.
“Dada, Dada, Dada,” Harry chants from his room.
“What’s wrong,” shouts James.
“I can’t find my dinosaur,” cries baby Harry.
Quickly James approaches Harry’s room to help him look for his dinosaur plushy. James lifts Harry out of his bed and begins to search. On his hands and knees James finds the plush underneath Harry’s bed.
“Here Haz i’ve found it,” James informs his son.
“Yay! Dada you’re the best thank you so much.” Exclaimed the little boy.
“No worry sweetheart, now through to the kitchen for breakfast,” replies James.
“What are we having,” asked the little boy.
“I don’t know, i’ve got dishes to do so why don’t you decide while I clean up,” asked James
“Okay,” said Harry.
As the pair walk through the house Harry chats to his dinosaur asking it how they slept and such. Once in the kitchen James situates Harry in a chair and begins on the dishes. Taking good care to make sure each dishing is shimmering and sparkling before he dies them. What feels to Harry like hours later his dad is done with the dishes and he now gets to tell him what he wants, what he would like to eat.
“Alright Haz dishes are done what would you like to eat,” James asks.
“Pancakes, pancakes, pancakes,” Harry chants impatiently.
“Pancakes what Harry,” the boys father questions.
“Pancakes please Dada,” Harry remedies.
“Okay buddy pancakes coming up, what flavour would you like” James beamed at his boy.
“Banana and chocolate chip please Dada,” He requested.
“Okie dokie kiddo banana and choc chip pancakes coming right up,” James declared joyfully.
He rummaged through the cupboards trying to find the right ingredients, he thought to himself that he just reorganise these. Once he had all the things he needed he began to mix the batter, asking Harry if he wanted to help. Excitedly Harry got up from his seat and toddled towards his dad to help. In the beginning things went smoothly, Harry added ingredients as and when he was asked to and didn’t complain when James wouldn’t let him mix the eggs in because it would make a mess. However this only lasted for so long before James caved and let Harry do the whisking. Batter went everywhere: in James’ hair, in Harry’s hair, on the counter, on the floor, on Harry’s stuffed dino, on both of their pjs, on the ceiling and on the floor. All in all it could’ve been worse James decides, at least no one was hurt.
“OWWWWWWW DADA I HURT MYSELF,” cried Harry.
Apparently James spoke too soon.Rushing towards his son, James scoops up the boy and rests him on the counter to see what the matter was. Harry had fallen over and hit his head. His tumble has left a small lightning shaped cut in its place.
“It’s alright Haz don’t worry, it’s only a small cut and it’s shaped like lightning,” James tell the boy in hopes of cheering him up.
“But it hurts Dada,” whines the child.
“I know kiddo I know just give me a second and I will make it all better I promise,” he says in an attempt to placate his boy.
“Promise,” asks Harry, his pinky sticking out waiting for his father to pinky promise.
Joining their fingers to together James reassures his son that he promises to make it better and with that sets off down the hall to look for the first aid kit. Once he finds it in the cupboard under the stairs he hurriedly returns to his son to clean and out a plaster on the cut. After it has been cleans with little to no problems James brings out the wide variety of themed plasters for his son to choose from. To the surprise of no one Harry chooses a dinosaur plaster. Finally, everyone is okay and James can get back to breakfast. Except the pancake has burnt. Somewhere between Harry falling and James patching him up he forgot that he left the pancakes on the heat and now the house is semi filled with smoke. Slightly annoyed with himself that he did something that could’ve so easily been very dangerous, James takes the burnt pancake off the heat and scoops it from the pan into the bin. Then he sets to cleaning the pan and putting a new splodge of batter into the pan.
Eventually, all the pancakes are made without anymore being burnt and no more injuries so the pair sit down at the table to eat when the door bell rings. Exasperatedly, James stands from his seat and goes to see who could possibly be at the house. While he walks he mentally checks off who it couldn’t be; not Sirius as he would just barge in, not Remus as he would have called beforehand, not his mum or dad because he’s not expecting to see them till Monday, not Lily as she is out with Mary and he weekend with Harry isn’t till next week. By the time he arrives at the door he is baffled as to who it could be. Opening the door curiously he comes to find himself standing in front of Regulus Black. Someone he thought he’d never see again. Love of his life and owner of his heart.
“Hi James,” says Regulus Nervously, “May I come in,” he asks.
Wordlessly stepping aside James lets him in. Heart beating at a mile a minute, excited to see on what adventure he will be taken on this time.
