Chapter 1
“Arthur!” Dad’s friend from work yelled, we had been walking for forever to get to here. We weren’t even done yet. “It’s about time son.” It was Cedric Diggory’s dad and Marie Makehay’s uncle. Cedric is really good at Quidditch, maybe even better than Harry.
“Sorry Amos, some of us had a bit of a sleepy start.” Dad said before giving us all a nasty look. Cedric jumped down from the tree we were standing by and shook dads hand as his dad introduced them.
I didn’t notice before, but Marie was there too, guess I couldn’t see her behind dad. Her uncle introduced her and dad shook her hand, then he asked if she knew me and George. We haven’t ever talked except for a few rare times when she’s hanging around Hermione.
She was one of the best Quidditch players at school, almost everybody knew her and wanted to be her friend. She never seemed to care about them though, she just hung around Cedric and Loony Lovegood. She glared at us for some reason before saying something to dad and smiling at him.
I always thought she was pretty good-looking, I would probably take my chances with her, but she had her nose stuck in a book all the time. We start walking to the portkey.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
“Why are they all standing around that manky old boot?” Harry said, I forgot he lived in the muggle world for a bit. “That isn’t just any manky old boot, mate.” George said. “It’s a portkey.” I finished, he’d probably heard about them from Hermione or something.
We got down on the ground and grabbed the portkey, dads friend counted down and we begin to spin. I knew what they were but I’d never used a portkey before, it felt so weird. I look around and notice Marie has her eyes closed, it looks like she’s gonna vomit.
Dad tells us to let go of the boot, I thought he was joking until Hermione let go, surely she wouldn’t if she knew we’d be fine.
We weren’t. We fell so fast in so little time. The breath was knocked straight out of me and it felt like the ground had punched me, I got up and dusted myself off. I feel a tad bit embarrassed when I hear Marie’s laughter, I must’ve looked like an idiot.
We all start walking and start to see tents, there's thousands of them everywhere. People are flying on broomsticks and doing cool tricks and there’s music playing, it looks awesome. As we walk through Marie, Ginny, and Hermione are in front of us pointing around at stuff, I can’t help but stare at Marie.
“Parting of the ways I think old chap,” Dads friend says, him and Cedric go off to find their tent. Dad told us beforehand that someone was going to be staying with us but I thought he meant Cedric, I don’t know why but I feel a bit happy that it’s actually going to be Marie instead.
The tent we have is unbelievably small, but when I get inside it's like a tent mansion, I’ve got to learn the spell for that. Me and George sit down at the table together, we both get comfortable but dad doesn’t like it.
“Feet off the table!” We repeat to him together, I catch Marie staring at me so I give her a wink, she decides to ignore it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
When we’re walking up to our seats I notice Marie looks like shes going to vomit just like she did earlier when we were using the portkey. I step up to her on the stairs “Scared of heights?” I say, the only things the portkey and the stadium have in common are heights so I figured it had to be that.
“I hate them, always have. I get sick to my stomach even thinking about them.” This honestly might be the most we’ve ever talked. “Well, you’re surrounded by witches and wizards, if anything happens, I’m sure you’ll be fine.” I reassure her, I don’t want the game to be spoiled for her just because she’s worried about heights.
We walk in silence for a moment before she changes the topic. “Cheering for the Irish?” she asked. It was obvious that I was, my whole face was painted green and white along with the flags in my hand.
“How could you tell?” She laughed, it made me smile so hard I was sure the redness of my cheeks had to be peeking through the paint.
We made our way to our seats, she was beside me. The Irish made their way through, me and George starting shouting their names. Maybe one day we could be on a well-known Quidditch team. Viktor Krum’s team came through and did a little show. It looked pretty cool. The minister began the game.
“Who are you cheering for?” I asked Marie, I had to yell it a bit over the crowds, hopefully I wasn’t yelling too loud at her.
“The Irish, I can’t stand Viktor Krum.” She said, she looked disgusted even thinking about it, I had to laugh at the cute face she made.
“Good, wouldn’t want to be betting against a smart girl like you, would I?” I nudged her arm, I’m such a good flirt.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
We were back at the tent and me and George were singing a little Irish tune and jigging to it, Ron was talking about how much he fancies Viktor Krum. We started to make fun of the git.
“Sounds like the Irish have got their pride on,” I said, as they should too, they played a wicked game. Dad came in with a worried look on his face.
“Stop, stop it! It’s not the Irish. We’ve got to get out of here, now.” When I heard the screaming, I immediately started running. When we all got outside Ron, Harry and Hermione had already started running away.
“Get back to the portkey everybody!” Dad yelled, “Fred, George! Ginny and Marie are your responsibility, go!” George and Ginny darted off, Marie hadn’t even budged from her spot so I grabbed her wrist and started running.
We all ran to the portkey and immediately went back. If we waited some death eater might have found it.
It wasn’t like the first time at all. Even if we wanted to, we couldn’t have landed softly, it just slammed us onto the ground, stupid portkey. I felt like my lungs were being squeezed, and every breath I took felt like it was crushing my ribs.
“Bloody hell." George got up and after I was able to breathe without pain I did too, I helped Marie get up, she looked sick again.
“You alright?” Her and Ginny were small, the fall might've broken one of their fragile girl bones.
“Just a bit shaken up, you?” she started cleaning herself off. I looked at the portkey, if we waited here for dad or anyone else the death eaters might find the portkey and hurt us, dad might get home with the others and they all think we were dead or something. Better not risk it.
“Same here, we should get back to the burrow.” It was a decently far walk, maybe an hour or so, but it’d be fine. We all started walking, I couldn’t stop thinking about what kind of trouble they all might be in. Nobody talked for a while, probably still processing what happened.
“Do you think they’re okay?” Probably, dad’s a smart guy, good with his spells.
“I’m sure they’re fine, probably at the Burrow right now waiting for us.” That seemed to calm her a little, I was still thinking about all the bad things that might be happening though.
“I’ve never seen a death eater before.” Marie said, she had a bit of a tremble in her voice, her uncle and cousin were there too, I forgot. She was probably worried sick just like I was.
“Neither have I.” Harry must be more scared than the rest of us were, hopefully he didn’t think they were there because of him though. I couldn’t imagine what would happen if they actually captured him. I tried my hardest not to think about it anymore.
