Chapter 4

“Love.” Sirius mumbled something that sounded vaguely like a slur and pushed his hand away, trying to go back to sleep. Remus bit back a smile and he heard James snicker but his focus was on Sirius who was sprawled on top of him. “Baby, you need to wake up.”

“Don’t wanna. Sleepy.”

“I know love, James and Peter are back though and I need to go talk to Professor Mcgonagle before her detentions tonight.” That had the opposite of the desired effect as Sirius clung to him.

“Don’t want you to go.” Despite his attempts to cling to sleep Remus could tell he was waking up and becoming more aware.

“It’ll just be a little bit, I promise. Then I’ll come right back.” He glanced up at James and Peter who were watching in amusement. Sirius shook his head and tightened his grip.

“I don’t want you to go.” Remus pursed his lips but Peter came over and crouched next to the bed, becoming level with Sirius.

“Hey Padfoot.” Sirius looked at him and he smiled gently. “You know, there was something we were doing during transfiguration today that I didn’t really understand. I don’t want to bother you but I know how good you are at all of that and I wondered if you could explain it to me.” There was silence for a moment before Sirius released his grip and pushed himself off Remus so he was sitting on the edge of the bed.

“Okay.” His agreement was soft but all three heard it.

“I think I left my transfiguration book in my trunk. Can you help me find it?” Sirius stood and let Peter lead him over to his trunk. The moment Sirius’s attention was diverted Peter made a shooing gesture to the door. Quickly Remus scrambled to the door, grabbing his shoes and pulling James out after him. James caught the door so it didn’t slam and closed it softly.

“Why am I coming?” Remus pulled on his shoes.

“Because, I need your help. Also because I think Sirius will be more distracted if it’s just Pete in there with him.” James frowned but followed Remus down the staircase.

“Why do you need my help? Aren’t you just going to Mcgonagle? I don’t know anything helpful.” Shaking his head slightly Remus sighed.

“Mate, I mean this in the most loving way possible, but sometimes you’re fucking stupid. Sirius told me who did that to him.” There was a moment of hesitation.

“And?”

“And I’m going to give him a farewell card.” Remus’s tone could probably cause several droughts. “No, I’m going to beat the shit out of him. And you’re my lookout and alibi.” James’s mouth made a small ‘oh’ and Remus almost laughed.

“What exactly are you implying Mr. Lupin?” Mcgonagle was sitting across from him with the most severe expression he’d ever seen on her face. He’d never been more grateful to have James behind him because an angry Mcgonagle was a scary Mcgonagle.

“I’m…” He rubbed his temples and took a deep breath. “I’m not implying anything. I’m saying that the defense against the dark arts teacher raped Sirius.” There was a long pause.

“That’s a very serious accusation. Are you sure?” He nodded.

“I’m positive.” Behind him James spoke up.

“You could say that he’s being completely serious.” Both Remus and Mcgonagle looked at him, twin expressions of exasperation on their faces. “Not the time?”

“No, it’s absolutely not the time Prongs.” Remus shook his head slightly and turned back to Mcgonagle who stood and started pacing.

“I… hesitate to do anything tonight, if he catches wind he could be gone before morning. It’d be better to make a move during classes, when he’s stuck with. But… that also means he’s around students for longer.” Remus had to bite back a proud grin.

“I wouldn’t worry about him going anywhere too much.” Silence. For precisely nine seconds.

What did you do?” Remus shrugged.

“I haven’t the faintest clue what you’re talking about. I’ve been with James since classes got out. And he didn’t see me do a thing, did you James?” Smirking slightly, James shook his head.

“Not a thing.”

When Remus and James finally got back to the dorm Sirius was sulking on his bed, Peter sitting next to him.

“Hey love, what's wrong?” Sirius glared.

“You tricked me.” James sighed dramatically.

“How could you Remus? You tricked your own boyfriend, honestly disgusting mate.” Remus just shook his head slightly and shooed Peter away so he could sit next to Sirius.

“I know baby but I had to go talk to Mcgonagle.” Sirius seemed unimpressed by his excuse. “And I don't have anything else to do tonight, how about we make James and Peter go get us dinner and I'll stay here and we can cuddle?” He hesitated.

“Promise you're not going to sneak off again?” He gave Sirius a small smile.

“I promise.” Another pause.

“I suppose that's okay.” Remus chuckled.

‘Alright. James-” He glanced over to see him and Peter already headed to the door.

“We've got it, you just worry about Pads.” After they left Sirius climbed onto his lap and settled so his head was resting on Remus’s shoulder. They were quiet for a while before Sirius spoke.

“What'd Mcgonagle say?” Remus hummed.

“Not much to be honest. She's at the Ministry now, he's going to be arrested by morning, an anonymous tip.” He hesitated. “Though by how livid she was I'd be surprized if he's not gone by the end of dinner.” There were a few more minutes of silence.

“Thank you.”

“Of course love.”
