Goblins, Healers and Curse Breakers

Harry didn’t fully think about what he was about to do until he was stood in the middle of the bustling alley, staring up at the gleaming snow coloured building before him. By the time he had woken up sunlight had already filled the room. Padfoot was still letting out huffy snores, positioned on his back, paws in the air, head tilted to the side with his tongue hanging out at the end of the bed. Padfoot had only woken when Harry ordered breakfast up to the room, the Animagus had devoured his food and promptly fallen back into bed. Once Harry was sufficiently feed, clothed in fresh clothes and ready to go, he had set of down Diagon Alley.

Now he stood gazing at Gringotts, he finally stopped to think through what he had to do. Harry knew he had to ask to speak with Ragnok about getting a full inheritance test done, but Harry wondered how he would explain to the goblin why he’d asked specifically to speak to their leader. He also wondered what Death had meant when he told Harry that the goblins would take things from there. Harry knew they dealt in curse breaking so he could assume they would be able to remove the likes on spells, curses, binds and potion he knew were on him. That thought made him queasy, knowing he was standing there drowning in magic that wasn’t his.

Another thought he had was his parentage, Harry wondered if Sirius knew that his little brother was one of Harry’s dads, and if not… how in Merlin and Morgana’s name would he explain that one to his slightly unhinged god-father.

Harry shook himself from his thoughts and straightened his posture, after a few deep breaths the boy was ready. With as much confidence as he could muster, Harry strolled forward. When the goblin guard stationed out the front opened the door, Harry bowed to him before entering. Considering the hustle and bustle outside, the bank itself was rather quiet with only a couple witches and wizards speaking to tellers. Harry walked right to the end where the tallest podium was, silently cursing himself when he realised his 13 year old self was unfathomably short.

Thin fingers wrap around the edge of the podium as a goblin peered over the edge and down at him, Harry recognised him at the same goblin he spoke to when he first came here with Hagrid. “Yes?”

Harry pulls forth in his mind all the goblin etiquette he could remember.

“Blessings master goblin, I require an audience with Master Ragnok if he is available” Harry says smoothly with a small bow. The surprise is noticeable on the goblins face and Harry can’t be sure if it’s from the formal greeting or his request to see Ragnok.

“Very well” The goblin drawls and disappears from view before walking around the podium. “Follow me Mr Potter”

Harry followed him deeper into the bank and down a long corridor before they stop at a black door. Harry briefly notes he’s never been this far into the bank, unless you count going down to the vaults. The goblin knocks and not a moment later the door is opened. Ragnok is dressed in what Harry can only describe as battle gear.

“Ah Harry Potter, I’ve been expecting you. Enter.” Ragnoks words baffle Harry slightly, he’s been expecting him?

Once Harry is seated on a plush sofa in Ragnoks office the goblin speaks again “a… mutual friend shall we say, told me you’d be visiting soon”

“Oh” Harry says, almost at a loss for words. Death had visited Ragnok to tell him that Harry would be coming? “Right.. erm, I require a full inheritance test, any fee can be taken from my vault”

Ragnok dips his head in a slight bow and rummages through his desk before pulling out a long roll of parchment paper. Harry watches as the goblin leader murmur in gobbledegook and the parchment takes on a pearlescent shimmer.

“Three drops of blood anywhere on the paper should do it Mr Potter” Ragnok slides the parchment over the table so it’s sat in-front of Harry, with it a long thin needle.

Harry picks up the needle, takes a breath and pricks the tip of his index finger. Blood instantly wells where he’d stab, Harry turn his hand over and gently pinches the sides of his finger. As the drops splatter onto the surface Harry watches in rapt facinstion as the parchment absorbs them and black ink begins to surface. Harry’s eyes scan the results over as they appear.

Harry felt ill. It had been bad enough to read with what information Death had been able to provide but seeing it all on paper and knowing he was currently smothered in all of those spells made Harry serious queasy. Also knowing that Molly Weasley was most likely dosing him in the treats she sent him every month just so he would fall in love with Ginny made his blood run cold, how could someone who claims to care be so calculating and cruel. The information about his magical guardian was new, he hadn’t expected it to be Narcissa Malfoy. Although it made sense knowing she was a Black, that thought led Harry to wonder about Regulus’ status, on the test Death had given him it had showed as deceased. This one simply says status unknown, Harry didn’t want to think about what that could mean right now.

“This is.. oh Merlin” Harry chocked, shakily handing the papers over to Ragnok. By the time the head goblin was finished reading he was furious, rapidly spitting out words in gobbledygook into what looked like a magical version of an intercom.

“I’ve sent for a healer. Our friend told me it was bad but this… UNACCEPTABLE.” Ragnok raged “After we get all of this filthy magic off you I want to talk about your parents wills and your vaults. Also by the time you’re done I’ll have the heirship rings brought up for you Mr Potter”

Harry had a feeling that with the way Ragnok had spat the word filthy, he was talking about the horcrux. He barely opened his mouth before the door was slammed open and a female goblin strolled in, she snatched the test and read it over.

“This is a travesty” She mumbled and then looked up at Harry, Harry was minutely aware he looked like the malnourished scrawny 13 year old he was currently. “Blessings, Harry Potter. My name is Fangora, I’m a healer for our Goblin nation. If you’ll follow me to on of our ritual room, I along with our most trusted curse breaker will get this all sorted out for you dear”

As Harry followed her out his brain flitted over a few things, the healer had a very motherly aura and it seemed to put him at ease. However Harry had a feeling he knew who the curse breaker would be and knew Bills reaction to what his mother did wasn’t going to be pretty. Inside the ritual room was a large runic circle, candles surrounded it and sure enough standing in the middle was Bill Weasley. He knows that in this life he hasn’t met Bill yet, the curse breaker still looks the same as Harry remembered, with his shoulder length red hair that was tied back and the dangling fang earring.

“Hello Harry, I’m Bill Weasley” Bill said once Harry was close enough, reaching out to shake his hand, “Fangora tells me you’ve have some curses on you that you need removed”

Harry nodded and watched as Fangora handed Bill the test results. The more Bill read the paler is complexion became. Harry’s heart beat picked up and he tried his best not to squirm where he stood. Bill looked up once he was done reading, tears shining in his wide blue eyes.

“Merlin’s balls Harry, this is… I’m so sorry. What my mother and youngest siblings have done… I won’t let them get away with it” Bills voice was hoarse in effort not to breakdown.

“It’s not your fault Bill, you don’t have anything to be sorry about. I only ask that you put off saying anything to them until I’m ready” Harry says quietly, Bill nods rapidly and gestures for him and Fangora to join him in the circle.

“Right we’ll get this sorted then” Bill says before clearing his throat. Fangora holds out a potion. “This potion will put you to sleep, the process is quiet painful if you’re awake so better to not feel it yeah? Once you’ve drunk this lie down in the middle and we’ll get started”

By the time Harry had downed the potion and taken his place laying in the runic circle, his eyes were already dropping. The last thing Harry remembered before he succumbed to the darkness was Fangoras soft reassurances.

Harry was floating on a cloud, he was sure of it. Everything around him felt like a cocoon of softness, Harry’s body and soul felt lighter than it ever had before. It was only a soft shuffling sound next to him that made Harry crack open his eyes, in a chair next to him Fangora was reading. She smiled brightly when she realised he was awake.

“You’re awake good good!” She beamed, closing her book and setting it aside onto a small table.

Harry noted as he sat up that he was in a plain small room, the only furniture was the bed he was sat on, the chair and the small table. “How long was I asleep?”

“Only about an hour, Bill and I managed to untangle and cleans all of the magic that was placed on you, you blood is also clean of any potions. The only issue we ran into was with the souls piece that was inside your scar. Took us a bit longer but we go it out and it’s now being destroyed” Fangora explained gently, “now, I’m going to conjure a full length mirror for you, that glamour on you changed your appearance quietly drastically”

Fangora set the mirror against the wall and Harry stood up, moving in-front of it. When he glanced at himself he couldn’t believe it.

Harry was not as short as he had been, at least a few inches taller. While he was still on the skinnier side, his shoulders seemed a bit broader. His skin was still pale but not as pasty has it had been, the real shock however was his hair and Face. Gone was the untameable birds nest, instead his hair was a deep onyx shade of black that fell in soft curls over his forehead. His jawline was slightly more pointed and his cheekbones high. His eyes stood out the most, framed to long dark lashes they were no longer bright green. The outer ring of his iris was a cool amber that faded into a soft silver around his pupils. The scar on his forehead was now fully closed and silvery in colour, Harry took a moment to run his fingers over it.

“I…” His voice faltered, he didn’t have words for this. Looking at his reflection he could admit that he finally felt like himself for once.

“You look beautiful young lordling” Fangora said, patting his arm. “Now let’s get you back to Ragnok”

During their journey back Fangora explained that she would be sending him some potions and instructions on when to take them. The goblin was throughly angry at his malnourishment and the multiple broken bones that had never sat properly. When they reached the office Fangora made Harry promise that he would write to her and keep her up to date on as much as possible. It seemed the goblin healer had taken a liking to the young wizard.

Once Harry was sat back in Ragnoks office they discussed many things. Harry agreed with Ragnok to store a copy of the Inheritance test and the recorded magical signature as evidence. Ragnok officially took over as his account manager, the first order of business was changing his vault access and a full audit of all his vaults. It would take at least a week or two to get through considering the sheer number of vaults Harry now had access to, Ragnok told him that when he was done he’d mail Harry a copy of the statements.

When Ragnok gave Harry his Heirship rings he explained what protection each of them gave. The goblin also explained that with his freshly unbound core and his new access to family magic, his magic might be a bit uneasy for a few days while it settles.

With his new rings and freshly cleansed and unbound magic, Harry strode out of the bank with a smile on his face and his blood thrumming with power.
