Breakfast in bed
Severus moved through the kitchen like it was a rehearsed dance, and well- he supposed it was. He had never been a romantic person, but when he cared he did it well. Like everything else he perfected the act of caring, of being a good.. he guessed after five years of living with the man he could say boyfriend.
He knew the days right after a transformation were never good, and so he decided, since it was valentine’s day and two days after a full moon, he’d make his lover breakfast.
Remus had always been better at grand gestures, whether it was a fancy dinner, or a park picnic, or whatever date they went on.. usually Remus pampered Severus and gave him everything he needed and more. Severus woke up wanting to return the favor.
It had been rough.. after the war. Severus and Remus had spent a while in recovery together. When they’d both finally got out of the hospital they weren’t ready to go back to being alone. So Severus stayed with Harry Remus and Teddy for just a few days after incessant begging, which turned into a few weeks, which turned into Severus selling his house on spinner's end and moving in.
Now it was five years later, and Severus and Remus had been going steady ever since. Harry stopped by very often to see them and Teddy, which is where Teddy was now. He loved staying with Harry, Ron, and Hermione and Harry loved forcing alone time on Severus and Remus, so he had taken him last night for a sleepover. Which really meant he wanted Severus and Remus to enjoy their valentine’s day.
Severus prepared french toast, bacon, sausage, and eggs. A lot of all of it, Remus ate like crazy after a full moon, and Severus wanted him to have as much as he needed. He also poured some orange juice, and made a pot of Remus’s favorite tea.
Of course there was also a chocolate bar. He took his time, meticulously placing everything on a tray to look perfect. He’d made himself a plate as well but he wasn’t as worried about the appearance of his breakfast.
He carried the tray upstairs and into their bedroom, pushing the door open slowly. The man groaned and rolled over, eyeing who was entering, and raised his eyebrow. “Morning?” He asked groggily, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. Severus stood awkwardly, and Remus sat up, confusion clear on his face. “What's this?”
“Happy..Valentine's day?” It came out shakey, and with question, and Remus had to bite down on his tongue to not laugh.
“You made me breakfast in bed? That is very kind of you, thank you love.” Remus smiled, taking the tray from Severus and looking over all of the food and drinks. “This looks amazing, Sev. Why don’t you sit?”
Severus, who had seemed glued to his spot, moved to join the man on their bed. Easily sliding into his spot with his plate, shoulder to shoulder with Remus. “I’m still not very good at this.” Severus shrugged.
“I think you’re perfect, just the way you are. I couldn’t ask for a better boyfriend. Now eat love. Stop worrying.” Remus said gently, turning his head to press a kiss to Severus’s temple.
Severus bit his cheek to hide his smile, even after all of this time he got a little too excited at shared affection. He’d hated it at first, loathed the idea of letting someone in like that. Of being vulnerable with another, but Remus had been patient and gentle with him. Had held him when he needed him to, and stayed away when he wanted him to.
They ate in relative-but comfortable-silence, and when they were done Severus tried to get up to clean up. Remus pushed him back though and set the tray and plates on the floor next to the bed. “Come here.” He mumbled.
Severus nodded in understanding, turning his body until he was straddling Remus’s lap. Remus cupped his face with one hand, and placed the other on his hip, pulling him into a gentle kiss. Each time Severus thought it was nearing the end, Remus would pull him back.
He thought if he got this every time he was nice he’d be nice more often. (No he wouldn’t.) Remus finally pulled away and smiled up at him, caressing the man's cheek with his thumb. “I love you.”
Severus had always had a hard time with that phrase, he meant it and showed it in his own way but he rarely said it. Remus was once again patient and understanding with him, and since he was on a roll today. “I love you too.” He said it back, unsurety and inexperience dancing on his tongue.
Remus smiled, kissing him once more before letting him up. He followed him to the kitchen and dried while he washed the dishes. They spent the rest of the day lounging on the couch sharing small kisses and laughing together. (Read: Remus laughed while Severus “coughed” in his hand.)
