Family and heartbreak
Living in Hogwarts wasn't easy, especially as a muggle born witch and most importantly in 1940.
To be honest, joining Hogwarts wasn't something you wanted, hell, you didn't even know what Hogwarts was.
One day while grabbing the letters and newspapers from your doorstep you notice a letter entitled to you.
You carefully open it.

You frown. What a bad joke, Hogwarts? Never heard of such school. Plus Mom and dad just finished signing you up for Linkon Ministry School, one of the best schools near town.
Your tiny hands grab the other letters as you close the door behind you. You put the letters for your parents on the kitchen table and the weird one on top of your bed as you start cooking breakfast.
Mom and dad came home late from work yesterday, so you as their proud little child chose to cook breakfast for them. With much love.
It was barely 6am and you were tiptoeing around the house to grab some left over flour and jam.
Managing a hot pan with kid's hands wasn't easy, but slowly and carefully, you started making pancakes.
After barely making 5 pancakes, you grab the plates and put two in each, except one, yours.
Mom and dad, two each. You, one. You smile as you finish putting jam on them.
You hear sounds from their room and you quickly clean up the kitchen, knowing that they would have cleaned it up for you.
You glance at the old and dusty clock. 6 and 30 am.
You look at the stairs, your parents were walking down with really big eye bags and tired smiles.
"baby, already up?" mom mumbles
"mama! I made breakfast"
The two smile as they both ruffle you hair.
"such a sweet baby girl" your dad says proudly. They both sit down and start eating.
You also sit down and eat your pancake.
For 7 and 10 am they were in their work clothes.
"remember what we always tell you baby, if you go out, be careful and don't go too far.
if someone knocks don't open"
You nod obediently and they wave goodbye and go to work.
Two more weeks and then school. You were very excited, learning was something you adored, after all knowledge is power and you knew that.
Even if you had two hard working and kind parents, status and economy of the family was very low,, barely going through each day.
That didn't make you too sad though, you wished to have a better situation, but nothing compared to the love those two old folks gave you.
The very same day, you forgot to throw the trash out and with it that silly letter..
You were asleep on your bed..
"(name)" your mom whispers as she shakes you
"yes mama..?" you yawn tired
"you got in Hogwarts.."
"hm?... Hogwarts?... you mean that silly letter... no mama it's just a joke.. probably" you say half asleep.
That night was rough, first because you got woken up at 1am, second because your parents filled your head with so many informations about Hogwarts.
At first, you thought that they were playing a prank on you, but that morning they had a day off and took you to a wizard street? and everything was so silly.
They bought you a wand.. books and more.. it was all so surreal and not in a good way.
"what do you mean that I can come back here only on Holidays?" you cry out
"well yes baby, that's how that school wor-"
"I refuse! I want to go to Linkon Ministry School ! It took you so much effort to enroll me there! and how could I leave you two alone-"
Fear gnawed. You knew they were adults and your parents, but you took care of them! You did most house chores so they could be freer.
Going to Hogwarts was not an option-!
"baby" your dad says as he gently sits you down on the couch, tears were rolling down your eyes now.
"papa.. I promised that I would always take.. take care and... I- I don't want to go there- I can't possibly be a witch either"
You kept talking through small hiccups.
It was another rough night. Both of them comforting you, but they thought that it was the best for you, after all, your mom's sister was a witch and she told her tales about how good that school was, how fulfilling it was and most importantly, it supplied a comfortable space and food. Your parents wanted you to finally feel free too and not weighted down by them at the young age of 11.
The last weeks at home were sad, filled with an empty feeling in your chest.
You came to accept their decision and promised to always visit and be the best.
The day of the departure came, it was truly heart breaking, they couldn't pass through the wall, so you had to go there on your own.
You look out of the still train window. Your head dropping to the side, this felt like a nightmare,, tears gathered in your eyes, spilling on your uniform.
But then a boy sat at the other side of the train compartment. You gulp and clean off your tears and snot.
Your eyes looking down from how many emotions were swelling in your chest.
...
The whole train ride was awkward, a mix of wanting to cry your eyes out and feeling discomfort in the presence of someone unknown.
