Ancient magical creatures and their history:
And then with the ancestors of Demiguise out of the way. We finally have a creature more savage and barbaric with major linkage to history of the Wizarding world; making this one of the most important creatures with abilities so vast that they provide the hardest to learn for the exams yet the topic with the most questions.
But rest assured, witches and wizards! We have created this book with one purpose in mind- making it easier to learn. So first we will start with the name of the creature:
- Demi-gods
These creatures referred to themselves as ‘Demi-gods’ or ‘Half-breeds’. Said to be the servants of powerful wizards, they called their master ‘God’ reverentially, and said to have possessed half of their master’s power. That concludes the name and it’s meaning. Some also speculate they co-opted the use of their name from that of half-deities of other mythology. But this theory has been rebuked: citing religious psychosis of those times and the adverse effect of muggles staying charmed for so long.
The reason given for them being now extinct goes through histories of both- muggles and wizards.
It is said they used to be abundant. Running around doing menial errands for their master. After one of the many religious wars of Britain where us wizards fought bravely alongside muggles, they depleted in numbers: confirming the theory of our experts that these servants were sired by or charmed muggles. And as the story goes- these Demi-gods got scared of the powers us witches and wizards possessed yet having a taste of half of that power: they craved more and at once started randomly attacking any witch or wizard in sight- hoping to steal their power.
This was the final stroke. Our wizard authorities at that time were already in talks for the International Statute of Secrecy. After careful consideration, they kicked these creatures out and finally signed the International Statute of Secrecy in 1689, when the British Parliament crowned William and Mary the King and Queen of England.
Demi-gods were known to be dependent on wizards, so after some decades they completely vanished. Leaving behind not even a mark on the wizarding world. Thus, the ‘known members’ section has been left empty.
Now, onto their abilities:
The great wizard that they called their ‘God’, was a straight descendant of Merlin and he had shared his power with them, not at the cost of depletion of his own. They were powerful, yes; but less than a thirteen-year-old at Hogwarts. It remains a mystery why a wizard so powerful saw the need to keep muggles as workers, but it brought forth plenty good than the bad that finally marked their end, that’s why his progressive thinking is lauded even today in our community. Some of their abilities were- [continued on the next page.]
“DEMI-GOD SIGHTINGS: These ancient creature’s sightings near Beauxbatons Academy of Magic sends the Magical Ministry all over Europe in a frenzy. What could possibly be the reason for these creatures to appear again? Another powerful wizard at play or something else? Read more on page 10.” Read Mr. Weasley out loud from The Daily Prophet, most of the noise of the burrow stopped (save for Pigwidgeon still zooming around and hooting shrilly in his cage upstairs). Mrs. Weasley stopped in her cooking and rambling about Fred and George and stared wide eyed. Fred and George started murmuring to each other after a few moments of stunned silence, Ginny joined them after a few seconds.
Harry, who was going to the garden with Ron and Hermione, looked at his friends. And while Hermione had a look of surprise in her eyes Ron looked straight up stunned.
Harry looked at their faces with furrowed eyebrows, trying to remember the lecture he had about Demi-gods in second year with Professor Binns; he could only recall little bits of it that he had to cram for the exam, things like ‘muggle servants of a powerful wizard’ and ‘kicked out in year sixteen hundred something because they wanted more power’ fluttered across his mind. So, he just looked at his friends for a better explanation.
Ron noticed his questioning gaze and delightedly explained. “They’ve been said to have vanished after we kicked them out!”
Hermione smoothly took over. “The possibility that there is a community of charmed muggle servants,” her eyebrows twitched, “living somewhere hidden by everyone after the events of sixteen eighty-nine is really... interesting.”
“Unsupervised for three hundred years!” Ginny joined in excitedly.
“Oh, Perce is going to get such a headache!” Fred and George spoke together.
“That’s not it.” Hermione shook her head. “Remember that they have been enchanted; not born with magic. Nowhere had I read a charm that passes through several generations of muggles and never wears down. That or…” She fell silent as they reached Bill and Charlie, who just finished up making their tables fight and set them up safely on the ground.
They all paused for her to continue, and her cheeks turned pink under everyone’s gazes.
“Well?” George urged her on.
“That or they’ve been turned immortals somehow. To keep serving wizards.” She finished hastily and huffed.
That excited the Weasley’s even more. Ginny ran to tell Bill and Charlie everything about the news and their discussion. Charlie looked like he could blow up volcanoes with all the excitement he had.
Harry himself couldn’t match the excitement the Weasleys shared. Everything peculiar and immortal had one thing or another to do with Lord Voldemort. His excitement from the Quidditch World Cup tomorrow dimmed a little. And one look at Hermione said her feelings on this matched with his own.
“I can’t believe it!” She huffed. Harry raised his eyebrows. “I can’t believe it! More servants! They already had elves and now… involuntarily charmed muggles!”
“Hey, for all you know they might’ve been volunteered for it! You know how fascinated muggles are with the wizarding world.” Ron offered only to be given a scathing glare by her.
“Sure Ron. Humans like servitude.”
“That’s not what I meant!”
By seven o’clock they were ready to eat dinner sitting under the clear sky. They were all discussing about the World Cup and occasionally the Demi-gods and Harry’s excitement came back full force. If for any reason this isn’t related to Lord Voldemort then Harry wouldn’t mind learning more about these enchanted muggles. He felt strangely excited about this topic. Beside him- Hermione’s mood grew sourer when the Demi-gods came into discussion.
But slowly when the whole conversation became about the World Cup, she became visibly lighter.
Harry was slowly updated on the happenings of Quidditch’s official sports team. Charlie told him about Viktor Krum and English team disappointingly not making it to the finals.
By the time they had their strawberry ice-cream, Harry felt better than he did the whole summer at Privet Drive. Mrs. Weasley then ushered them into the bed saying they had to wake up at dawn for the Cup.
As Harry lay on the bed, he felt full and so incredibly at peace that he believed nothing can ever go wrong in the world.
