The first thing Remus noticed when he woke up was the sharp pain in his hip. He lay with his eyes closed for a few minutes, breathing in and out slowly.
Remus was used to waking up alone in the hospital wing the morning after a full moon, so when he finally opened his eyes, he was surprised to see a dark haired boy sitting next to him.
“Sirius?” He murmured, voice coming out hoarse and deep.
“Hey Moony,” Sirius smiled down at him. “How’re you feeling?”
Remus ignored the question, instead opting to interrogate his boyfriend. “What are you doing here? You should be in lessons. Does Madame Pomfrey know your here?”
“Jeez, relax,” the boy chuckled. “I’m here to see you.” He leaned down and planted a kiss on Remus’ forehead. “It’s a Saturday so I don’t need to be in lessons, and Madame Pomfrey let me in a few hours ago.”
“I’ve told you before, you don’t need to come and see me. You were probably bored out of your mind.”
“Quit grumbling so much. I was fine I had a book to read.” Sirius waved a copy of Fantastic Beasts in front of the boy. Remus huffed quietly, but didn’t complain.
In all honesty, he was very glad to see his boyfriend after the full moon. He always felt wrong afterwards, like a stranger in his own body. He hated the reminder that there was a monster inside him, that he should be feared. That he was, at the end of the day, inherently unlovable. But with Sirius sitting next to him, grinning that stupid grin of his, Remus allowed himself to, for once, feel loved.
“I asked you how you felt,” Sirius prompted after a moment of silence.
“I’m fine.”
Sirius raised a disbelieving eyebrow.
“I’m fine Pads, I swear. My hip’s a little sore but that’s it.”
It was entirely a lie. As full moons went, this one had been pretty good, but that didn’t mean that Remus didn’t still feel like shit. His hip was stoll very painful, and his head was throbbing, but just the presence of Sirius in the room was helping considerably.
”You’d tell me if it was really bothering you though, wouldn’t you?”
”Of course I would baby,” Remus lied.
”I just want to make sure you’re alright.”
“I’m ok.”
Sirius bent down and planted a kiss on his boyfriend’s forehead, before settling back into his chair and re-opening his book.
”You can be back to sleep if you want. You look like you could use a couple more hours. No offence.”
The boy snorted. “Gee thanks Pads, that’s real nice of you.”
”Just saying.”
”Would you… would you get in here with me?” Remus asked quietly, craving the comfort of his favourite person.
Sirius immediately put down his book.
”Scooch over then,” he said climbing into the bed next to his boyfriend.
Remus curled up, head resting on Sirius’ chest, and closed his eyes. As he drifted off to sleep, he felt his hair being stroked gently
When he woke up a few hours later, Sirius was still lying next to him, watching the brown haired boy and smiling stupidly.
“Did I ever tell you how much I love you?” he whispered.
”Just about every day.” Remus felt a smile spreading over his lips. “I love you too Pads. I love you so much.”
