Harry was seven years old when he met the presumably older boy.

He didn't know much about the boy. He was a upperclassman only a little taller than Harry, he was definitely Asian (Japanese, if only based on the name) and he had no friends around him.

His name was Kyoya Hibari and Harry was also pretty sure he just caught him trying to bury Dudley alive.

"Um." He interrupted and froze stock-still at the sight of the glare his way. He shook his head. This was too surreal. "Sorry, could I…could I get that back? My cousin."

A half-silence, only interrupted by the pleading of Dudley who was in a large garbage bag on the ground. Hibari had a shovel in his hands and continued shovelling.

There was no one else around which struck Harry as odd, considering it was daylight and they were in a park sandbox.

He really hoped this wasn't because of Hibari, but all signs leaded to yes. Regardless, he had to take this seriously.

"Aunt Petunia will be really upset and I don't want to go without dinner tonight."

The boy stopped shoveling.

He stared at Harry.

"If you aren't caught by me," He said slowly. "I'll consider it."

"Ah?"

Then he dropped the shovel and before he knew it, the game started.

Harry successfully out-ran Kyoya Hibari, but only barely. He didn't know what happened, but it happened again—-he was in a tree, instead of seconds away from his and Dudley's impending doom. It was like the rooftop incident all over again.

It had to have been a freak accident. Wind or something. Or maybe adrenaline got to him and he climbed up the tree himself. He tried not to notice that his fingers weren't scratched up from the bark, or that he didn't actually know how to climb a tree.

The boy stared up at him from his position on the ground.

He mouthed something.

"What was that?" Harry was too high up to understand what the other boy said.

Kyoya Hibari walked away and Harry sighed in relief, only to realize he was still stuck up in the really, really tall tree.

"W-wait! Please help me down!"

It happened slowly and Harry didn't even realize what happened until it was too late.

Hibari disappeared, meanwhile Dudley got Harry in trouble for teaming up with him. Harry went to school hungry for two days in a row, but on the third day, Hibari comes back.

There's another boy with him. He has a weird haircut and three lunches in his arms, and he's so tall, he looks like a teenager on the cusp of adulthood.

There's also a bruise on his eye.

"My name is Tetsuya Kusakabe." Kusakabe bowed to him. "I'm Hibari's…guardian."

He handed Harry one of the lunch boxes. It was large, like there was days worth of food in it. Harry opened it and nearly salivated at the sight of the green vegetables and the oranges and the apples and---is that beef?

"Please enjoy."

Thus, it began.

Tetsuya would give him a lunch almost every day, along with preparing one for Hibari. Tetsuya would eat lunch with Harry, seeming as polite and well-mannered as one could be.

Hibari would leave once Harry took the first bite, as if satisfied.

It took him a few weeks for him to muster up the courage to ask.

"Why are you doing this? You and Hibari. I thought Hibari hated me, or something."

Tetsuya blinked and then smiled, a dimple appearing in the corner of his cheek. "Hibari wants to fight you. You can't fight if you're weak from hunger."

It was so perfectly Hibari.

A few years later, Hibari Kyoya left school. He was transferring back to Japan according to an apologetic Tetsuya.

Harry felt a pang of sadness at the loss of his friend who he had been given silent permission to call by his first name. He actually was tearful, and even Vernon gave him a distance after the first time he cried making bacon.

Two days later, he was back and Harry stared at them in disbelief.

Japan didn't work out.

"Too many herbivores at the school since I left."

He said and then turned around.

He stopped after a few steps and looked back as if to indicate he should follow, and Harry, pleased to realize that he wasn't the only one who felt lonely, ran after him.

At ten, Kyoya disappeared for an entire school year.

He was going to boarding school.

"Why boarding school?" Harry had asked after choking on his cup of milk.

"I turned eleven." He explained simply. Which shocked Harry, because he thought Kyoya was at least three years older than him, but also—

"What type of answer is that?" He demanded from Tetsuya, who shrugged but looked away.

"My answer. Goodbye, young dove." Kyoya said, and left the next day, and Harry once again got used to the loneliness of being friends with the boy.

It wasn't until the day of his birthday, that he realized where Hibari Kyoya might've been throughout the school year.

"Wait, so when we turn eleven we get our Hogwarts letters? All wizards?" He asked Hagrid and upon confirmation Harry punched the inn table. "I'm going to beat him up when I see him!"

"Huh?" Hagrid sputtered as Harry began laughing.

What an asshole.
