Ambition: Chapter 5

The Past Haunts Part 2

Recap- Harry caught you self harming in the bathroom. But how did he catch you? Why was he there?

You're so confused why both he and Harry were there, but you were bound to get some info out and find out.

“Cedric, go! This is none of your business!”

“But-”

“Just go!”

“Fine….”

You watch Cedric’s retreating figure and look at Harry with a glare, and with slightly teary eyes. You see Harry’s eyes flash with disapproval for pushing Cedric away before going back to his expression of concern.

“Y/N….”

“What…”

“Why’d you push him away?”

“Because he didn’t need to hear anything and he didn’t need to know. The last thing I need is for him to think I’m a monster!”

“He’s your best friend, he won’t think that, and if he does; he isn't worth having as a friend.”

“Really? You think that….?”

“Of course, Y/N. Also I’m pretty sure you're his only “real” friend.”

“And what makes you say that?”

“You're his only friend who isn’t completely head over heels for him! Even some of his guy friends are gay for him; It’s crazy honestly.”

You laughed immensely at that. The thought of some guys being gay for a straight man, who you called your best friend, was funny in your opinion for some reason.

“But one more question Harry?”

“Shoot it.”

“Why were you even here in the first place? I mean, lord knows the Weasley’s made you think horribly of me.”

“Because I do care, well I care a lot really. You're probably the closest thing I’ll ever have to a family. I mean I have to at least play the part of an older brother, because you're still going by Potter now, aren’t ya.”

He gave you a sweet smile, and of course, a smirk after that last bit but it was true; you are playing his younger twin sister, just for a little while. The least to say, you actually felt cared about but one question was answered for you; Why did Cedric check up on you too? You weren’t being loud to where he would’ve heard, and nor was Harry. He was also supposed to be in a class, his favorite one too, Herbology, so why wasn’t he in it? The more you thought about it, the more questions you had, and one thing was for certain; you wanted them all answered.

You were in your favorite class, Care of Magical Creatures. Yes, Cedric was in that with you right now, but that wasn’t why you liked it. Since you were little, you always loved the mythical animals, in which Cedric did too, just not as much as you. At this point even the teachers thought you loved the mythical animals more than Hagrid himself, if that was even possible.

This morning you would be taking care of Buckbeak. Some people were excited, others not as much, and some people were even downright terrified. I mean, they had a reason too; It’s a giant bird with eagle qualities. Not something to be overly excited about, well there are some exceptions, that being you. Yes, sometimes, even though you hated to admit it, you got scared of certain things.

“You were raised in a home where you were taught that there were actual things to fear, and it seemed as though Buckbeak was not one of them. There were so many other things to fear about, such as the coming dementors, and, rarely, werewolves, yet it seemed as if people totally forgot about them, and were scared of an eagle bird thing.” you thought to yourself.

You were only brought out of your thoughts when class was dismissed. It wasn’t until now when you realized Cedric never showed up for class. He was never overly late, and if he wasn’t showing, he would at least tell you first so you wouldn’t get worried. Cedric was often considerate of your anxiety and things like that. You always get worried when someone doesn't show up. You often thought that meant you were abandoned..again..as sick as that sounds. I mean, you couldn’t control what you thought. No, that wasn’t always true. You rarely ever had to worry about being abandoned. It was just something that happened due to being left by lots of people in the past, mostly before Hogwarts, but that didn’t mean you never had to worry.

The world was a scary, dangerous place, and if you weren’t careful, you could easily make a wrong move, and let your secret out. Hogwarts was your home, but that never meant you felt totally safe, or at home. You grew up with no contact in the outside world, so to immediately transfer to this…well, you were pushed way out of your comfort zone.

You ran to go find Cedric, you didn’t say it aloud, but everyone had a guess. Cedric was your best friend, and that was no secret at all. You two had each other's backs every second of every day. People often don’t see you without each other, so when you guys weren’t together, something was wrong.

You ran all throughout Hogwarts, snuck in the boys dorms, and even other classes. The teachers weren’t very happy with that, but at the moment you could care less.
