Prologue
Petunia was tired, nine months of doing her best to hide and minimize her husband's involvement with her pregnancy. Something in her told her this child would not be allowed or at least allowed to be doted upon and loved as she wanted to do. So here she was in the hospital alone today to try and save her child from her husband.
Memories of how different this had been for her first child. A doting husband bragging his good genes would continue this day. She wanted to keep her child don't get her wrong but she felt like this child would take to much after her sister. She worried that this child would not take after her in the slightest and would leave her vulnerable to Vernon's anger and punishment for the precieved slight.
She knew he wouldn't want a second child especially if they were not male. she had a glimpse of mother's intuition that this would not be another son. So over the last nine months she had carefully found her sister and reconciled just enough to say if it was a girl that they would take the little one allowing her to claim a still birth for Vernon. She would mourn her child as if they had never taken a breath because she would never have them call her mum or see their firsts. She had a wonderful name for her little one if the baby was a girl.
Mariposa, her little butterfly that would live life beautifully away from the danger of her husband. It was the best she could give her daughter. She had only asked her sister to keep the name she gave the little one if they became a Potter. She never thought that her sister and her freak of a husband would agree but they did so with ferver. It made her wonder what would have been if she had not resented Lily for leaving her behind.
The time came and she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl the same time her sister gave birth to a baby boy. She had talked with Lily to give the little one her last name, and when it was time it was documented she was born Mariposa Alyssum Edelweiss Potter. She let the nurse know she was to go to the Potters after this moment of looking upon her. She almost broke when she handed her little butterfly away to the nurse and once cleared she checked out and went home before Monday. She never thought to see her baby girl again.
Lily smiled at James as they met their little boy for the first time. She had worked out the name for their little bundle of happiness. He was born Haderic "Harry" James Potter. She looked up at James as she said "we made a beautiful baby together," and they enjoyed the moment as a small family before a nurse knocked on the door and walked in.
"Sorry to interrupt after all your hard work it seems we have a little girl that was said to be brought to you, by one Mrs. Dursley," the nurse said formally.
Lily nodded. "Of course let me see the little one, she was to be formally adopted once we leave, my sister did not want to have a second child, we promised to take the little one in once she was born," she said softly.
"Of course, so we can add her to your bracelet then, we will have her sign the surrender paperwork at her check out then to assist in the adoption," the nurse stated as the little baby was wheeled into the room. James took Haderic and held him close while Lily was handed their new daughter. "Mariposa Alyssum Edelweiss Potter," the nurse informed them as she stood there just waiting.
"Hello little butterfly," Lily said as she kissed the little baby who settled once more after fussing a bit. "Look Haderic your twin sister," she said softly ready to save her niece from what ever worried Petunia.
James watched the little girl and fell in love with her as Lily held the twins now and he felt his want to truly be her father settle. They would go settle the paperwork and magical side for him and his family.
It did not take long before the small family of four to be released. They went straight to Gringotts and made sure that their daughter was seen by magic as a Potter. They registered their children as the Potter Heirs and settled their godparents as well. Sirius fell in love with the twins the moment he saw them and knew he would do anything for them. Remus found himself wanting to be around more when the moon was not full. These two helped dote upon the twins until the prophecy was revealed. Their year of being a family suddenly became fractured as Lily, James and the twins went into hiding.
The events of October 31st are only ever speculated about but out of the family of four only two survived that night. None know how they survived but it left both twins scared one on their forehead and the other on their shoulder. None knew what was instore for the twins as their godfathers both found themselves not running with the twins but chasing after the betrayer of their small family.
One ended up taken into custody the other seemed to vanish from the isles. This led to the twins being carried away by a half giant and by the hands of a headmaster settled down on the stoop of a home that would be a challenge to their very lives. And so begins the story of the Twins that lived.
