Summer Skirmishes

It had come as a most unwelcome surprise to Diana that not only would she be returning home for the summer with her brother. But that he would be bringing his band of merry mischief makers for the entire six weeks.

The final day of her first year had come uncomfortably early, as though she had been at school for less than a full term and was now being flung into her second year at school.

In the late hours of the night she began to pack her suitcases, storing all of her belongings into the large leather bags for the following period of time.

———————————

If she was going to miss anyone, it would have been Lilith. From a distance it did not appear that the two were a close knit pair, but those who observed from the outside knew little of the intensity of the blaze which was their friendship.

Which is why the girls vowed to spend as much time together as possible on the train ride back to the platform.

Diana had lugged her heavy suitcase, out of which the Hufflepuff flag had stuck out of the sides, all the way into the closest carriage. Which was where she had agreed to meet the bubbly Lilith.

Diana had sat beside her friend, and Lilith had began to regale diana with tales of what the summer would hold for her.

“Well I’ll probably be spending time with Reggie- you know Reggie- but not that excuse for an older brother he has, you know his parents shunned him?”

The girl barely paused for breath
“Apparently they think he’s like his uncle alphard- somewhat weird, I think he’s weird anyways- ugly too”

Lilith suddenly looked out of the window
“Do you think that we’d be friends if we weren’t in the same school?”
Diana furrowed her brows “well we wouldn’t know eachother” as always, Lilith hadn’t been making a lot of sense.

Diana did wish that in every other universe she would have a friend as close as Lilith, although she was very fortunate to have found the blonde.
Lilith continued to ramble about everything and nothing whilst Diana pondered the summer ahead.

“Pretty Potter!” Diana stopped in her tracks as she stepped off the platform, holding up a queue of students who quickly shoved her to the side.
Lilith too looked rather startled, and looked around almost comically.

It was Sirius. Of course it was.

The boy had been waving frantically, running over to her whilst her brother and two of his other friends - Remus and Peter she presumed - slogged behind.

“Guess who’s sharing a room with you all summer?” Sirius slung his arm around her shoulder, the weight of which nearly knocked her flat on her face.

“You must be joking” she huffed, receiving a nod of agreement from Lilith “you keep your traitorous hands off her! She doesn’t want to fall in with your sort!”
The blonde poked the ravenette roughly in the chest.

“Oh bog off blondie” Sirius scoffed, although his posh accent made the slang come off almost comically.
“I mean it! She doesn’t need to be hanging around with the likes of you!”

This comment seemed to strike a nerve with the boy, who folded his arms and narrowed his grey eyes
“What do you mean ‘likes of me?’ Something to say lil’s?” He tilted his chin upwards in something of a challenge.

“I mean you’re insufferable, and creepy, and it’s no surprise your parents disowned you!” Lilith - who was looking the picture of intimidation ( if a fluffy bunny is intimidating ) - clenched her fists by her hands.

Sirius swallowed thickly, tilting his head and exhaling through his nose before running a hand through his currently ear length hair.
“You’re a bitch you know that? I hope your parents marry you off to some old bastard” the boy spat before turning on his heels and following the other three boys. Although James shot him a look.

“Forgetting something mate?” Before pointing to his sister. Sirius nodded “yeah, whatever”

———————————————
The journey back had been nothing short of awkward. Their car - which Peter had told Diana in detail - was a muggle brand, a rolls Royce which had been enchanted by an expansion and levitation charm.

Diana had sat between the window and James, with Sirius in front of her, Remus beside him and Peter stretched across both sides, with his back pressed to the seat beside Remus and his feet on the seat beside James.

“You’re going to scuff the seats mate” Sirius nudged Peter, who muttered under his breath and shuffled himself back.
Remus let out a soft snicker, running his hand through his buzzed hair “you’re still a bit snobby mate”.

Sirius let out a noise of discontent “piss off” however this received a response from Euphemia who had sat in the front seat “language boys!”

Staying with these four over Christmas was bad enough, but summer? That was a different story
