Rolling Around The Feels
The boys keep him busy over the next couple of days. He’s barely seen Sabrina because even when she was over, his friends stole her away. It was excruciating, they’d talked him up into finally taking her out only to take up all her time.
He groaned, rubbing a hand down his face. His friends had decided to scatter on home now that they were sure he was doing better. Despite the late hour, moon central in the pitch black sky, he felt an energy coursing through him. It seeped beyond his skin and into his bones. His fingers twitched knowing he couldn’t get up and find her now.
The hour was nearing midnight, and he was sensible. They couldn't go anywhere until the morning anyway.
Sighing, Remus smacked his head to the window by his bed. This was all so much easier when he had the confidence of his friends. Alone, he can’t help but list the reasons he’s no good for her.
When morning came, the fragrant aroma of chocolate floated around his house. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, Remus finds himself in the kitchen. Once there he sees his mom happily chirping away with Sabrina as she pulls chocolate muffins from the oven.
“Good morning, caradid.” She greets him as he always does.
Her words cause Sabrina to jolt up, smoothing down her flour covered apron. “Remus morning!”
He grinned right at her, amused by her . “Morning.”
Really what had he been nervous about. His mom dismisses Sabrina and she takes Remus hand in hers, letting him lead her to the back yard when he knew she didn’t need him to. Still, he squeezed her hand three simple times. In a way telling her how he felt without needing to find the words.
Unsurprisingly, she repeats his actions. She sighs as the cool wind breezes past their cheeks.
He took the opportunity for one, two deep breaths. Using his jeans, Remus swipes the sweat of his unoccupied palm. “Bina,” he begins, swallowing his own spit. “Uhm. This is harder than I thought it’d be.”
She laughs, not at him but for him. It comforts him seeing her so relaxed, so herself. Her free hand travels up his arm and settles on his shoulders. “You’ve told me a lot of hard things, what's one more?”
He nods without thinking. They sit in silence for a minute, Remus to gather his courage and Sabrina giving him the space to do it.
He wished, briefly, he was the blind one. That way he wouldn’t have to look at her as he said it. Wouldn’t have to see her soft smile, the crinkle of her eyes, or that beautiful flush of her cheeks
“I know this is really soon but I love you. I’m in love with you and I can’t keep it in anymore. Everytime I look at you I’m smiling so much and you make me so nervous and happy and I love being around you more than anything.” It was awful. As soon as the words were out of his mouth he couldn’t stop them. He just kept rambling on about Sabrina. About things she wouldn’t even be able to see to care about. “And I know I’m a freak and I’m a monster but-“
“Remus.” She interrupted him, voice stern. “Shut up about the pity party and kiss me.”
So he did. He held her face in one hand and brought his lips down to hers. She tasted like mint chapstick and her mouth was hard to fit his against because she was smiling with all her teeth. Yet her hands became tangled in his hair, pulling him closer to her. She nips at his lip as he pulls away. It’s messy and it’s perfect.
He chuckled, “I did this a bit backwards. I meant to ask you on a date.”
She hasn’t moved away from him, isn’t disgusted by what he is or what he’s done. Her arms hook around her neck, chest pressed into his like she’d never let go. Her smile takes up so much of her face it’s all he can focus on. “I’d love for you to take me on a date, Rem.”
Dumbly, he nodded again. Bringing her into a hug because now she’s his. Entirely his and no one else's, he thinks. He’s pretty sure that's how it works but he’s never wanted to ask someone to be his girlfriend before.
“Bina?” He asked, feeling her hum into his chest. “You’re mine now.”
She smiled, “I’ve been yours for a while, silly.”
The way his heart swells is heavy and all too much and not enough. He needs more of her, all that she’ll give him. He settles for another kiss. This one long, langid. There's so little time in the world and he could give it all up to keep his lips on hers. No feeling could top her body in his hands, nothing compares to how soft she is, nestled into his arms because she wants to be, she belongs there.
They make their way inside, undisturbed. Laying in his bed with a record on as the hours pass. Quick stolen kisses shared between them.
If this is what Heaven was like, Remus would die to experience it again.
He’s an idiot. What in Merlin's name caused Remus to do something as stupid as asking his crush to go on a date with him. He smoothed down his hair for the tenth time amidst his panic.
It would be fine, he’s hung out with Sabrina hundreds, if not thousands of times before. She’s seen- er been around him- bare ass naked and he didn’t even flinch. But this, admitting it was something more, is what ruins him.
She’s waiting for him at the bus stop exactly as they planned, her hair is curled and she’s wearing a light summer dress with a cardigan over top. She’s beautiful and magnificent and lots of adjectives that list themselves in Remus’ head as he looks at her.
The cane in her hand taps on the cement as it often does when she waits for him, it makes him smile at the familiarity.
“Hey,” he whispers.
“Hi.” She whispers back, giggling. “What’s the plan, oh mysterious boyfriend?”
Despite the warm feeling in his chest at the title, he blushes. Sometimes he’s lucky she can’t see how easily flustered she makes him, but he’s pretty sure she knows anyway. Whether it’s the stammer of his voice or the shortening of his breath, she never manages to smirk when she thinks he’s flushed. And usually, she’s right.
“Something I know you’ve been wanting to try.”
She grins at him like that's all she needs to see through his plan. Maybe she does, but he doesn’t know because the bus pulls up before she can reply.
“After you,” she gestures with her hands.
He takes them to an empty row, happily placing an arm over her shoulders. Remus smirks as he pulls his girlfriend in closer simply because he can. And with that thought he kisses the top of her head.
They arrive at the roller rink and he knows she doesn’t see the skates on the door as he opens it for her. It’s not till their inside and he gets both of their roller skates from the rentals that he fills her in on what they're doing.
He kneels at her feet. “Your roller skates, Cinderella.”
She snorts into her hand. “When I fall make sure you’re in front of me.”
“I wouldn't want anything else.”
He helps her into the rink, and hands her one of the kiddie buckets that help her keep balance. They go slow and barely make it through a single circle without dozens of mishaps but the smile on her face is so large and happy that Remus doesn’t care.
He reaches for her waist as she stumbles again. “I’m starting to hate that your so good at this.”
“Well I can see the people I’m about to run into.”
She whines. “That’s so not why I suck at this!”
“Sure, next time I’ll ask then to cover the floor in glitter so you can know where to turn.”
“Im pretty sure that’s a safety hazard,” she mumbled. “But this is fun.”
He pulls the bucket away from her “I bet it’d be more fun on your own.”
Instinctively, her arms reach for the wall, but he guides her away by her waist. Whispers of encouragement leave his mouth into her ear as he guides her around the rink. She loses her footing, arms flailing around as she falls back. Groaning as Remus, still holding onto her, falls with her.
Sabrina lands on top of him with a squeal. “Oh! I'm so sorry.”
“I'm fine,” he replies, pulling them both up and out of the rink.
Then she snorts. “Good cause I bet that was hilarious.”
“Hilarious.” He repeats dryly.
“Should’ve let me keep the bucket.”
They go to the food court and order overpriced and underwhelming hot dogs. But, as they sit together laughing, Remus knows this date was perfect. He kisses her hand and says, “Here's to a hundred more dates.”
“And after that?”
“I’ll propose.”
