Red scales

Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling
G
Red scales
Summary
(THIS IS ONLY POSTED SO ID DOESN'T GET DELETED, THIS IS NOT ALL OF THE FIRST CHAPTER) Harry potter's dark hair does what most babies hair does, it changes, from dark brown to a vibrant scarlet, this promotes a big change in him. He might be seen as a bad child, unwanted, a freak, too skinny, too short, but his hair glows with the colour of apples and roses, and no one can take that. This source of confidence changes much more than one would expect. (Inspired by Burning red and like a redheaded stepchild. The author has ADHD, this might rub off on characters.)

This is my first AO3 post, hope you enjoy, thanks for reading at all!! Also I have no Beta so helpful comments are appreciated!

prologue

A shot at fate.

A frail, tanned boy sits infront of a flower bed, pulling out weeds despite the boiling heat, when something moves against his hand. He gasps and pulls away, seeing shining scales in the grass. He hesitantly speaks, not noticing the hiss in his tone

"a snake..?" his voice was faint and nervous, as though afraid of being caught, he jumped when the small snake replied

"Shoo! My hunting grounds!" The snake reared back, ready to bite despite it's venom being weak

"I- I don't want to hunt! I'm just getting rid of the weeds!"

"Rid of the weeds? Why? They make wonderful cover" it cocked it's head in confusion, why would one every get rid of the safety?

"Well my aunt told me to.. she'll get mad if I don't, and I'll get no dinner" He watches the little snake's head bob as it thinks

"Aunt?.. A nest keeper? They take your.. dinner? What's dinner?"

"My meal.. Normal people get 3 meals a day, but I'm a freak. So I only get 1, if I don't do my chores I won't even get that one!"

"Normal? Are you not a normal? You look like every other furless mouse."

He blinks and focuses his gaze on the snake "..furless mouse..?"

"You have no fur, and you make big nests to live in, yes?"

"W- well yes.. but we aren't mice! We're completely different species!"

"Still, you look normal." The snake puffs up it's chest, sure it's right

"but.. I make.. things happen.."

"Things?"

He curls in on himself, he's not supposed to talk about this.. but this is just a snake.. he's spoke to them before.. "I make objects move.. and stuff grow.. a- and I can talk to snakes! That's weird.. freakish."

"That's normal. You're just in the wrong place. I need to get back to my hunt, goodbye furless mouse!"

He blinks and then his eyes widen as the snake slithers away "Hey! Wait!- what do you mean the wrong place!? Come back! Are there people like me!?-"

He jumps when a harsh voice rings out from behind him "Boy! Those weeds won't rid themselves! Stop slacking!"

"B-" He looks from the direction the snake had went to his Aunt, seeing the look on her face he quickly gets back to work "y- yes Aunt Petunia.."
