Chapter 1

Malfoy did not speak. His mouth was open, his wand hand still trembling. Harry thought he saw it drop by a fraction—Then his face melted, his hand dropped to his side. All the fight had left Draco Malfoy.

Another loud bang came from the other side of the door and Dumbledore hurried from where he was standing and grabbed Malfoy’s wand, “Colloportus!”

A loud crash sounded and a gruff voice sweared, “he locked us out, Draco! Draco do it!”

“Renovate,” Dumbledore said, his wand pointed at Harry. Malfoy’s eyes widened as Harry pulled off his cloak. Dumbledore looked at the two boys, “I will send Order of the Phoenix members to your house as soon as tonight to get your mother to safety but for right now you two have to find Professor Snape.”

Malfoy was still in shock as the boys grabbed the brooms and flew down to the bottom of the turret.

As they entered the front door into the entrance hall, Harry immediately knew something had gone wrong.

Kids, teachers and death eaters were fighting all over the hall, Harry raced over to where he saw Professor McGonagall defeat a masked death eater.

“Professor! Professor! Where is Snape?” Harry talked as quickly as he could. With the potion in Dumbledore’s system he knew he couldn’t keep the death eaters off for long.

“What? Where? Potter what is going on? The headmaster said you two had left and to watch the school. Where is he?” Professor Mcgonagall looked around in distress.

“He’s up on the Astronomy tower Professor and he says he needs Snape. This is urgent, Professor he’s sick.”

Professor Snape has already gone up to help Professor Dumbledore, Mr. Potter,” she looked over Harry’s shoulder to see Malfoy lurking in the shadows, “so glad you chose a side Mr. Malfoy, you’ll make us proud.”

Malfoy looked abashed but he nodded none the less. Then as Harry turned around to look out on the grounds a bright green flash filled the sky.

“NO!” the word was strangled as it left Professor Mcgonagal’s mouth and she raced out the front doors. Harry and Draco ran after her. They bolted over the grounds until they were right below the Astronomy tower where the crumpled body of Dumbledore lay, lifeless and small.

Professor Mcgonagal let out a wail and fell to the ground. Shouts filled the air as both death eaters and Hogwarts residents alike poured out of the castle. As soon as the death eaters saw who lay on the ground they fled. Their dark cloak billowed behind them as they headed for the barrier.

Draco stood small next to Harry, obviously trying to hide his face as the death eaters passed them. It wasn’t working however because as the crowd around Dumbledore grew in mass a hand grabbed Malfoy’s shoulder. Harry looked around, his eyes desperate to look away from the terrible sight.

“Draco, let’s go,” it was Snape. His eyes looked even more hollow than before. Something had broken inside him.

Draco shook his head slightly. He opened his mouth but nothing came out.

Snape scowled, “foolish boy, this is a big mistake. Mark my words, the Dark Lord will come for you. And you can’t hide from him,” then he was gone. Like bat Professor Snape had followed the other death eaters as they ran away from the fallen body of the greatest wizard there ever lived.
