Envy's Plan

"Its not your time yet." The mind workers wold always say, before locking the door again.
It was frustrating, to say the least, to have the same thing happen over and over again. But Anxiety lever let that defeat her completely.
Her, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment have been locked in here ever since Riley was born. Prevente from going up to headquaters, where the other five emotions lived and work.
It had always felt a bit weird. If they were all emotions, then why were only Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear allowed up there. In fact she heard they first formed directly in headquaters.
"Riley is still to young for you guys." A mind worker said. "This five are the core emotions, therfore they are in headquaters from the get go. You guys are...the sophisticated ones. Riley is still unable to handle you. Don't worry, once the time comes, we will send you directly up there."
And that was it. Ennui didnt care about how long they stayed here. Embarassment didnt seem to mind either. But her....well Anxiety wanted nothing more than to go up there and work. Help Riley down a bright path.
Envy as the only one that agreed with her. So with that, they became really close friends.
At nights, they sat on the couch together and watched the screen, dreaming of the day when they arrived at headquaters at last.
"You think we will be allowed there soon ?" Envy asked.
"I hope so, I can't wait to be there." She said, cleaning Envy's face from the crumbs of the cookies Nostalgia made for them.
Envy gigled at that. Anxiety knew Envy was a bit....different from the others. She is more childlike, more infant, which causes her to behave differantly too. Ennui finds it really annoying, but she personally sees the charm of it.
They looked at the screen were it showed headquaters at night time, were a very bored Disgust was taking dream duty for the night.
"Disgust looks so cool, doesn't she ?" Envy said. "She is so stylish and fancy !"
"She sure is. It makes sense why she is incharge of how Riley looks."
"You think she will be my friend when we are finally up there ?"
"I am sure she will. You two are too similar to not get along."
"Yay !"
It was nice. This moments made the wait worth it.
And then, when Riley had just turned 13, it finally happened.
"All right you guys !" The Mind Worker said. "Its finally time to take you to headquaters....except you Nostalgia, you still need to wait a while longer."
"Oh that's fine, I can remiss for longer."
"WOOOHOOO ! WE ARE FINALLY GOING TO HEADQUATERS !" Envy cheered, hugging Anxiety tightly.
"Yeah ! Everything is gonna be great ! You'll see Envy ! Everything is gonna be perfect !"
And then...she messed up.
In her desperation of trying to help Riley get a good future, she kicked the original emotions from headquaters, and hijcaked control of Riley to complete her own goals.
It took getting Riley into a panic attack for her to finally see it.
In turn, she is nobody's favorite right now. Everyone had resentment towards her, and she could totally understand why. From the mind workers, to the emotions she kicked out, it was clear they wanted nothing but profestional civility with her.
Anxiety understood. She had truly messed up.
The one thing she got right at least, was to make sure the fall out of her actions didn't hit Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment. It had been her plan, and while the others helped, she was the responsable for everything.
Thankfully it worked, and the others were able to form bonds.
Embarrassment continued his growing friendship with Sadness, the big guy had it the easiest as he did help her out during her hiding. Ennui developed a strange friendship with Anger, that one she did not see it coming.
And Envy finally got her very desired friendship with Disgust.
Anxiety had been right. The two of them were just too similar to not get along. Once the aftermath of what happened cleared, Envy aproached Disgust, and soon they were close friends together.
Now they spend all the time together, and Anxiety could only smile sadly at that.
Because now Envy spent little time with her, and with the cyan emotion being practically her only friend...it meant she was lonely.
None of the original emotions were willing to spend time with her, and she could tell her friends were hesitant as well. It was fine, she did bring this upon herself.
Now she only has to live with it.
Envy looked at Anxiety, sitting alone checking her notes.
It wasn't that fair....yes she really messed up but...so did everyone. Why did she have to pay the price ?
Unfortunatly there was little she could do. Other than Disgust, she is not close to any of the original, and it is them who still held more power. Envy now knows their take over would have failed no matter what. Someone would have heard them and it would be the four of them loosing anyway.
Wait….thats it !
It all started because of the actions Anxiety took against the original. Then if she made ammends with the original it would fix everything!
But how to start…..Joy would be the most logical path, as she’s the leader. If Joy forgives Anxiety, then the others would follow her ! But,….Joy was also the most hurt by her, and she doesn’t seem that incline to do so. And Envy isn’t close to Joy. They get along but they don’t have the relationship to do what she wants too.
In fact…the only one she’s close enough for this is again, Disgust. Which it of itself is a problem. Disgust isn’t known for being the most soft or forgiving.
But Envy likes to believe she knows Disgust. Even more than the other originals. And she knows her best friend is at her heart, a big softy. She just needs to be pushed a little bit.
With that in mind Envy jumped from her bunk and ran towards the bathroom where Disgust was.
“Hey Disgust !”
“What is it Envy ?”
“I need to talk to you but…it needs to be alone.”
“Huh….ok then.”
Envy closed the door after she made sure no one was around.
Disgust looked at her confused.
“So…what’s up ? Wait, don’t tell me you lost Ennui’s phone again.”
“What ! No ! After last time she doesn’t even let me get close to that thing.”
“Heh, true. So what’s wrong ?”
“Well….its about Anxiety…”
“Oh boy…what is it ?”
“I was wondering….can you talk to her ?”
“Huh ? Why would I do that ?”
“Cause she’s been so lonely lately and…I feel bad about it.”
“Envy she’s like that because of her own actions. It ain’t easy to hear that you are not important to Riley anymore, or being thrown out of headquarters and locked up.”
"I know I know....but she is sorry !"
"I know she is sorry, but it does not erase all what happened."
"True but...you guys all forgave Joy after she messed up !"
"There is a little diference. Most of what Joy did was indirect. She never meant it. Anxiety knew well what she was doing, and still decided to go foward."
Envy pouted. She had to find a way to convince Disgust to give Anxiety a chance....
"But she is all alone and sad.....its really hard looking at. No emotions deserves that...don't you agree ?"
Disgust said nothing at that.....Envy felt like she had a chance.
"Please Disgust, do it for me, for your bestest friend in the entire world." She pleaded, showing her her big puppy eyes.
Disgust looked at her for a moment, and at last gave a big sigh.
"She has Dream Duty tonight, doesn't she.....I'll talk to her then."
"YES !" Envy cheered, leaping from his feet, hugging her tightly. "Thank you thank you thank you !"
Disgust chuckled and ruffed her hair. "Allright allright, don't get too exited on me ok ? I promise to try but I have no way of knowing how will it go."
Envy nodded rapidly. still very happy. She had no idea how this would go, but the fact it was at least gonna happen, which for her is enough.
That night, while everyone slept, Disgust remained siting on her bunk.
Even though she wanted nothing more than to put on her nightgrown, and go to sleep. But one look at the sleeping cyan emotion remained her of the promise she make, a promise she can not walk out from.
Trutthfully she was not sure this was a good idea. She is not the most forgiving emotion. In fact out of the original 5, she could probably hold a grudge longer than most, with only Anger ahead of her.
She was still hurt over what Axienty did. Even if most of her actions were more directly against Joy, she still kept the five of them from headquaters. Not allowing the back, calling them useless, and only backing down when it became clear she had messed up.
However, Envy had managed to hit a cord to make her accept. With that little phrase about being alone.
It hit her, because she did know how it was to feel that.
Back before when they were 5, she will not say she was never included. She was...but sometimes it always felt it was, Joy and Sadness, Anger and Fear, and her....her and no one. She spent more time alone than any of them. And even if she pretended she did not care...she did care.
That's why for her, Envy's arrival had been a godsend. Finally she had a partner, a close friend of her own to do things. Someone that did understand her.
But she admidatly never considered that by doing this, she took Anxiety's closest friend from her.
She is not the best emotion, and she can be selfish sometimes. But she is not willing to steal. Much less a friendship.
If anything they have to reach understanding for Envy's sake. All of this, is for Envy most and for all.
"Might as well do it now." She said with a sigh, carefully walking down her bunk so that she did not wake Fear up, and went to the console. The last thing she wanted was to wake him, or anyone, up.
But what she saw when she arrived...left her nothing but horrified.
"ANXIETY !"
