Rejected dreams
Luz Noceda always thought that if you want something badly enough, all you need to do is put in the effort and work. She spent countless hours practicing her guitar, memorizing song lyrics, and even trying to write her own music ever since she was a kid. For Luz, music was an escape, a way to show feelings she often struggled to talk out about.
So when she finally got the chance to audition for her school’s music club, she felt this was her moment to shine and show off her talent.
With a heart racing, she entered the audition room, gripping her guitar case tightly in her clammy and shaky hands. The club members sat at a cheap table, their arms crossed and their eyes watching her closely. Luz forced a smile and began to play her song.
At first, everything seemed to go decently. However, somehow she got lost in the music, moving with the rhythm, and then things went wrong. She became too excited, accidentally knocked over a microphone stand, and even stepped on a musicla equipment behind her, creating a loud BOOM noise that interrupted her performance and scared the watching members.
By the time she finished, instead of loud cheers, all she received were awkward stares and a few hesitant claps. The club president, a senior with judging eyes, quickly scribbled something down before looking up at her.
“Thanks for auditioning, Luz, but…” The senior said before pausing to look away.
“..we just don’t think you’re the right fit for our club.”
In an second, her dream of being part of a music group was crushed. Luz left the audition room feeling crushed, clutching her elertic guitar case as she walked down the school hallways, which now felt like it was going to suffocate. Murmurs from her classmates filled the air.
“Of course she didn’t make it. She’s just too...”
“Did you see how she made such noise? What a disaster...”
“Shes so embarassing..”
Luz had always been seen as a bit weird at school, and now it felt as if her passion for music wasn’t enough to change that.
Later that night, she sat in her room, staring at the ceiling while her fingers tapped against her guitar. Maybe she wasn’t meant to be in a band. Perhaps she was just too much.., too chaotic, too… herself.
With a sigh, she plucked the strings of her guitar randomly. Music still felt like home, even when everything else seemed off.
However..little did she know, destiny had a different journey ahead for her, one that was far beyond her own world..
