The Classroom
Walburga was sitting in her chair waiting for the teacher to arrive. Everything was okay. Everything was okay, because she was back at school now. She already dreaded next summer. Pollux and Irma would probably marry her off to that boy. He was so boring and dreadfully cruel. She’d already forgotten his name. Maybe she'd do the same thing she’d done this year, run to school at the first mention of marriage. Though, next year they probably wouldn't let her. They'd drag her back by her ankles and beat her into a wedding dress. There’d be no more sleeping in that rickety shack three weeks before school started.
A loud manic laughter interrupted her thoughts as a blonde girl was shoved into the classroom, proceeded to trip over her untied laces and fell right into the chair next to Walburga.
Well fuck.
The girl righted herself a bit and stuck out her hand. She groaned internally, something about this girl was telling her to run.
“Acantha Rosier.”
“Walburga Black,” She shook Acantha’s hand.
They were both silent for a moment before Acantha started again.
“So…what class is this?”
“Advanced Charms.” Walburga stated.
“Hm,” Acantha thought for a moment, seemingly moving on from the class topic. “I've never seen you before. Is that possible? Probably not. I mean, come on, we've been at this school for…uh…how long now?”
“Four years.” She intervened.
“Four years! And we haven't once interacted! Not once! Oh well, there's no time like the present, right?”
“Right…” Walburga was taken aback at her casual demonour, it made her want to laugh in the same way manic Acantha had when she came in.
“Oh well, see you around.” Acantha promptly skipped out of the classroom.
Walburga just stared at her empty seat. Class hadn't even started yet, and that girl was already gone.
That girl was quite…something. Walburga felt like something bad was going to happen. That somehow that meeting had just doomed her.
The professor came in and introduced himself, but Walburga wasn't listening. He started the lesson and Walburga pulled out her books, but she wasn't paying attention. They all started taking notes but she could only think of that damn girl. With her piercing blue eyes, and wavy blond hair cascading down her back.
