Ch 8 - Meet Ups

The explorer sped south on the highway, changing from lane to lane, going around cars, trucks, and semis alike as it drove. It swerved into the inner lane to pass a semi, seeing too late the Georgia State Patrol car driving in front of the semi. It sped by both vehicles and immediately after passing the GSP, blue lights reflected in his rearview mirror. Glenn cursed and pulled over until he was on the shoulder of the highway, rolled down his window, and cut off the car. He placed both hands in view on his steering wheel and waited.

A middle-aged man walked up to the driver door and peered at him from underneath his trooper hat and sunglasses. "License and insurance. Son, do you have any idea how fast you were driving?" The trooper asked.

Glenn answered "No, sir." as he handed over his driver license and car insurance.

"When you passed me, you were clocked at 103 mph. The speed limit along here is 80 mph. Why on earth were you driving that fast, son?" The trooper questioned Glenn.

'Ah man. What do I say? I can't exactly say that I am driving to see if my wife remembers me because I have somehow time traveled to the past from a future where zombies are real.' Glenn thought as he opened his mouth and closed it several times.

"I'm waiting, son. Why were you driving so damn fast?" the trooper asked again.

"I'm sorry, sir. I got in a fight with my wife and she went home to her father's farm. I'm on my way there to make up with her. We are newlyweds and it was our first fight." Glenn told the officer.

"Stay right here, son. I'll be back in a moment." The state trooper told Glenn before he walked back to his patrol car and ran Glenn's license and tag. Five minutes later, the state trooper walked back up to the driver window. He passed the license and insurance card back to Glenn.

"Mr. Rhee, I'm gonna let you off with a warning this time. And a piece of advice. Admit you are wrong when you are and when you are not. Always tell her you love her. Write down birthdays and anniversaries so you don't forget them. When you fight, always bring her flowers after. And don't be too proud to beg. I wish you and the Misses a long happy life together. Have a good day. And keep it under the speed limit." The state trooper said before walking back to his car and driving off down the road.

Glenn let out a breath he hadn't realized that he'd been holding. He started the SUV up and looked across the highway at the traffic when a familiar truck with several familiar faces passed by on the opposite side of the highway. Glenn drove across the highway lanes and did a u-turn in the grassy median to get in the opposite lanes. He sped down the road trying to catch up to the truck he'd just seen.

Hershel, Maggie, and Michonne sat in the front seat of the pickup, with Beth and Andre in the back seat. The truck bed was half full of Michonne's luggage and supplies, with a black tarp pulled over it with red bungle cords to secure it into place.

Hershel had been filling the three ladies in on what he experienced when meeting the Angel of Death and the others at the round tables when they heard honking coming from directly behind them. Hershel looked in the rearview mirror, smiled, and pulled over to the side of the road.

"Why are we stopping, Dad?" Maggie asked as her father turned off the truck.

"Look behind us." Maggie turned around and looked over Beth's head out of the back windshield.

"Glenn!" Maggie surged forward towards the now open passenger door where Michonne had just exited the truck. She was pulled backwards abruptly by her seatbelt. She fumbled with the clasp until she had it unfastened, then raced out of the truck and into the arms of Glenn.

"Maggie!" Glenn exclaimed as he wrapped his arms around her. "You remember me?" Maggie smiled at her husband with tears flowing down her cheeks.

"Remember you?! Yes. I was so worried wondering if you would remember me. And the walkers. And everyone. We were on the way to look for you. Me and Dad and Beth. We all remember. Oh, and we picked up Michonne and Andre on the way." Maggie exclaimed as she grabbed Glenn and kissed him while the others watched with huge grins on their faces.
