Cracks in the glass
Draco wanted to scream. He had to see her at work after that awkward goodbye. He doesn’t think he will survive seeing her. The best he can do is avoid her, again.
But she’s his partner. Fine, he’ll just asked Potter to reassign him. It shouldn’t be too hard.
He doesn’t think he can work closely with her again. Now that he knows about her own feelings, he feels like he’s walking on cracking glass. She was so devastatingly beautiful and a swot. How could he stop himself?
Draco was a jealous and possessive man. It had taken him all his will and love for Hermione not to act on his feelings. It took him everything to respect her. But after seeing once again how much he has to loose, he wants nothing more then to claim her. He doesn’t think being work partners can satisfy that itch anymore.
He wants her to be his. He needs to respect her choices. He was too late. A dark part of him wants to say fuck it and take her anyway. Let her marry Weasley. He won’t know she’s not really his. He can still have her at work, in the darkness, in secret.
Draco pushed the possessive thoughts aside. Would he truly be okay with letting her be with him? No. It wouldn’t works. Still that darkness in him wanted to try.

AT WORK
He first saw her at the cafe on his way to the ministry. She gave him a faint smile. An almost sad smile. He stared coldly back.
Maybe it won’t hard to ignore her.
Inside the lifts he saw her running towards it with a stack of paperwork. He didn’t hold the lift open for her. He watched her face turn red.
They had a meeting with all the Aurors and he made it a point to stand near the door. When she came in she called his name to sit with him and he pretended he didn’t hear. Harry shot him a look.
Once the meeting ended she tried to gather her things quickly to speak to him but he ran quickly.
He made his way down the dark hall quickly. Avoiding every witch and wizard that tried to stop him for a chat.
He locked himself in his office for hours trying to distract himself. If he can finish this report he can just drop it at her door and he won’t meet her tomorrow morning.

MINISTRY AT MIDNIGHT
He was falling asleep on his desk when he heard a knock.“I know you’re still here Draco open the door.”
He winced. Fuck no, he won’t speak.
“Draco I’m unlocking this godsdammed door if you don’t open up!”
He ran to the floor when he heard the unlocking spell.
As she walked in their eyes met.
“Draco-“ she was running towards him.
He was gone.

TUESDAY
The day went by swiftly. Once again he ignored her the entire day. When he sent her their shared work without seeking her out his floo roared to life.
She came in looking extremely angry.
Draco shot her a dirty look before he grabbed his wand and was out the door practically running.
This went on for the entire week.
On Friday she practically bombardad his door open. She accioed his floo before he could escape. Too drunk to fight he just took his glasses off and pinched his nose.
“Why are you avoiding me !?”
He was too drunk and she was too loud.
“Malfoy!”
“If this is not work related, I would really like my floo powder back, I am quit busy tonight.” He drawled.
“Draco Malfoy you total arse! What is wrong with you!”
He just looked at her incredulously.
“Why are you ignoring me?”
He stood up and swayed a bit. Too much firewhiskey.
“Draco…” she was suddenly close. Too close. She came up to put a hand on his cheek.
“Don’t.” He heaved. “Don’t touch me.”
She flinched. All the anger was gone from her face now. Her eyes looked glassy with unshed tears. She pulled back and look at him with her fists balled at her sides.
“Draco, you’re my friend. I- why are you ignoring me?” She whispered.
”Friends.” He scoffed.
“What? If this is about what I said- I- please forget it. Draco you’re my friend. I don’t want things to change. I care about you. I didn’t mean to make things awkward-“ She looked like she was going to cry.
He ran his fingers through his hair. “I CANT okay?” He raised his voice.
“I can’t be your friend. Not anymore. Not after knowing I had a genuine shot. I never stopped liking you. You stopped. You moved on and went with him. So no. I can’t be friends. It changes everything.”
“Draco-“
“I can’t control myself!”
She took a step close again and he took one back.
“Draco please.”
“Get out, please.” He heaved.
“Draco you can’t ignore me forever. You can’t leave me!”
“I’ll find a way.”
“Draco you’re my best friend.”
“Stop saying that! I’m not your fucking best friend. Best friends aren’t in love with each other! I can’t sit by and watch. So please, go away.”
“No.”
“Get. Out.” He said sternly.
She didn’t get out she closed the space between them again. This time she hit him in the chest.
“You can’t decide to walk out. We’ve been friends for years Draco! You can’t just leave me.” She punctuated the words with each hit.
He grabbed her wrist. “YOU have been friends, I have been tortured thinking that you would never like me back for years! If you don’t walk out right now, I will do something you won’t like.” He snarled. She was breathing heavily. “I won’t let you wallow in your self pity.”
That snapped his restrain. In one swift motion he let go of her wrist and grabbed her face forcefully.
He kissed her hard. The kiss showed her all his want. She didn’t stop him as he deepened the kiss. He kissed her roughly and bit her lip. “I don’t want to be your friend.” He breathed between kisses. “This is wrong.” She whispered back before she delved back in for more.
When he pulled her onto his desk she then pushed him off.
“I- I-“ she was breathing hard. Her cheeks were flushed. She didn’t have to say anything for him to know he royally fucked up.
Draco’s chest was rising and falling hard. He finally did it. He finally snapped. If he didn’t ruin things before he sure ruined them now.
The only noise in the room was both their heavy breathing.
She touched her lips and made her way to the door without saying a word.
Draco was fucked now. All his control from the past decade was gone. He got a taste of her finally. Friendship wasn’t even in the cards anymore and pretending wasn’t either.
She tasted of sin. Absolute ecstasy. He came to a conclusion through his drunken stupor.
He was going to ruin everything. He would have her. She didn’t seem like she wanted it to stop, which only fueled his desire for her more.
He was ready to take what he wanted now.
