All Hell Breaks Loose

It was Valentines. The two got dressed, Butter Pretzel wearing nothing overly fancy. Of course she still wanted to look presentable. She would’ve asked Camembert if she looked alright, but Cammy would say that she was beautiful even if it didn’t look good. Just a button down and a tie would do, right?…

Next time she asked Camembert, she should specify if her outfit looked good. Not her face… Butter Pretzel scoffed at the thought.

Pretzel gently set down her brush, checking to see if there was anything missing. No, thankfully not. Although there were a few paint smears on her hands, she didn’t care. She always had paint smeared somewhere.

She gently creaked open the door to see her girlfriend all ready with a white dress: flowers and pearls in her hair. Needless to say, Butter Pretzel froze for a good few seconds before Camembert gave her a gentle kiss on her cheek.

Butter Pretzel buried her face in her hands, blushing furiously.

“You… look nice…” She said in a muffled tone.

“You’re BEAUTIFUL!” Camembert exclaimed, picking her up with ease. That made Butter Pretzel’s blush worsen. Camembert fawned over her, rambling on how she just wanted to squeeze her.

The love she felt was overwhelming her.

She clung to her back, gently pulling her face down to peck her cheek.

“Are you ready to leave? The restaurant isn’t very far, is it?… I don’t want your dress ruined before we get there—“

“It’ll be okay. I’m sure I won’t tear it to shreds. I spent a fortune on this anyway…” Camembert mumbled, spinning the key ring around her finger. She took her stuff and double checked she had… Everything.

The two walked for a little bit. Camembert was cold. The nightly breeze gave her chills. Butter Pretzel asked if she was cold and couple of times however she insisted she was fine. It was a bit of a walk from home, but it wasn’t overly far to the point they’d need to get there by car. Camembert brought her brush and makeup bag with her just in case she needed a touch up.

When the two entered the restaurant, Camembert’s heels tapped against the marble floor with every step she took. Honestly, she was nervous. Very, very nervous. Even though she knew she’d say yes, she was still scared of fumbling on her words. She wasn’t the best at speaking, especially in a language she didn’t grow up speaking.

She took her hand and let out a small exhale, before looking up at her and continuing walking. The two sat down against the window with the beautiful view of the entire city of Parfaedia. She dreaded having to talk to the waiter, she didn’t like how her accent sounded.

“You seem nervous… is something bothering you?” Butter Pretzel looked at her reddening face.

“No, no. Nothing… I just got my dress a little dirty…”

Butter Pretzel didn’t like it when she was critical of her own accent, and tried to make her feel way better about it. She didn’t want Butter Pretzel to worry for her and ruin this whole situation before it started.

The waiter came along. He seemed to have a French accent. It honestly made her feel relieved. Completely relieved.

“May I get you lovely ladies started on this moonlit night?” He had his notepad held close to his chest.

“Ah, Errr… may I have a… j-jelly steak…? And a small glass of wine?”

Camembert’s voice shook. She was clearly unsettled. The waiter tried to make her feel better by not paying mind to it.

“And you? What would you like, ma’am?”

Butter Pretzel just ordered regular jellies. Honestly Camembert should’ve ordered the same. She just wanted to impress her a little, despite them knowing each other for years.

Butter Pretzel knew something was up, Camembert was socially anxious, yes, but never to this extent.

“Ma Cherie? Are you sure you’re alright?”

“Mhm…— I’m just self conscious of my voice… a little.”

“You’re voice is beautiful.”

Camembert just stared at her blankly for a moment, before letting out a small laugh.

“I’m glad I met you, love. You really are a charmer…”

The waiter came back with their meals and drinks, and the two ate for a while. Both of them tried to savor it since they didn’t really know when they’d be out having dinner again.

Camembert thought back to the proposal she planned. She was so paranoid. It felt like she was back at square one, when she gathered the courage to confess. The box with the ruby ring was in her little purse. She hesitated, but took a big inhale.

“Butter Pretzel?”

“Mmm?”

“You have made me… the happiest cookie ever baked. Since the moment we met at the art show, you dazzled me... A-and I just wanted to ask you…”

The box was in her hand. She took a sharp exhale and stood up from the seat, kneeling on one knee with the velvet box glistening against her silk gloves, shining from the moonlight.

“Would you… be my wife?”

Everything seemed to freeze. Butter Pretzel herself had frozen.

Camembert swore had seen a single tear form from her eye.

Butter Pretzel squealed and lifted Camembert off the floor, gently swinging her little feet off the ground.

“Yes! Yes I’ll marry you, stupid!”

The two giggled and the rest of the restaurant cheered, however it all fell silent as soon as-

*SHATTER!*

Not just anyone’s wineglass, the Phantom Bleu.

“ROGUEFORT COOKIE?!”

Camembert Cookie froze in fear. Not here. Are they serious?…

The restaurant gasped, some running and checking their pockets, and some trying to get their attention, however they walked over to their little sister Camembert.

“My my, little jewel!~” The Phantom Bleu gently booped her nose. “A proposal? I’d never thought I’d see the day, especially right when it happened!” They wiped a tear from their eye dramatically. Camembert stood frozen. Absolutely enraged.

They stepped forward, they focused more on their sister than their sister’s partner. “My little sister is such a saccharine little jewel, oh how lucky of you to have found her. A pleasure to…”

They realized who Butter Pretzel was after a few seconds of staring.

“…A pleasure to meet you again, Butter Pretzel Cookie.” They reached out for a handshake yet Butter Pretzel recoiled in disgust.

“I’ve never been more proud of my little jewel! Oh, by the way, Cammy, you wouldn’t mind if I borrowed this, would you?”

They twirled around her pearl necklace around their finger, Camembert was a little slow, so it took a second for her to realize they had stolen it. She let out a frustrated grumble and whilst reaching for it, knocked a wineglass on her sibling’s suit. Their sibling was obnoxiously tall. It was just like them teasing her years ago.

The Phantom Bleu was slightly disappointed at her clumsiness, but they knew her better than anyone. It was quite predictable.

“HEY! Why HERE. You could have done this when I visited again, you know.”

Camembert scowled at them.

“Can’t I have a little fun, hmm?~ I don’t have much to do, Lord Crumbles is fed and no jewels caught my interest other than that beautiful pearl necklace of yours.” They sung.

“Give it back to her!” Butter Pretzel spat.

“No, no. Let them have it… they always give back to me…”

“Now now! It was fun chatting my dears, you two would make such a beautiful couple walking down the aisle way. Camembert, your white dress is stunning my sweet. As for you, red ruby definitely matches your eyes.”

They gently kissed their little sister’s hand, and just like that, swept off into the night.

“Bastard…” Butter Pretzel Cookie grumbled.

“Tell me about it. I had to live with them for 11 years…” Camembert groaned.
