A Night of Revelations

Chapter 6: A Night of Revelations

Harry spent the rest of his shift distracted. Bill Compton’s cryptic warning gnawed at him, the weight of his gaze still lingering even after the vampire had vanished into the night.

“Boy, you look like you seen a ghost,” Lafayette said, nudging Harry with his elbow as they cleaned up after closing.

“Not a ghost,” Harry muttered, tossing a dirty rag onto the counter.

Lafayette arched a brow. “Mmm, that so? ‘Cause in this town, ain’t much difference between ghosts, vampires, and whatever the hell else crawls out after dark.”

Harry hesitated. “Bill Compton. What do you know about him?”

Lafayette let out a sharp laugh. “Vampire Bill? He the brooding type. Old-school Southern gentleman, but make no mistake—he ain’t harmless.”

That didn’t make Harry feel any better.

Sam came out from the back, tossing his apron aside. “You’re done for the night, Harry. Get some rest.”

Harry nodded and stepped out into the cool night air. The streets were quiet, the distant hum of insects the only sound. He started walking toward his house when—

Rustling.

Harry stilled. His fingers twitched toward his wand, hidden in the waistband of his jeans. “Who’s there?”

Silence.

Then, a blur of movement—something fast, too fast for a normal human.

Harry barely had time to react before a figure slammed into him, knocking him backward. He twisted mid-fall, yanking out his wand. “Stupefy!”

The red bolt of magic shot forward, hitting the figure square in the chest. The attacker stumbled, revealing a wild-looking man with glowing eyes and sharp fangs.

Not a vampire.

A low growl rumbled from the man’s throat as he staggered back. A werewolf.

Harry raised his wand again, but before he could cast another spell, the werewolf snarled and bolted into the trees, disappearing as quickly as he’d appeared.

Heart hammering, Harry straightened, keeping his wand at the ready.

“Well, damn,” a voice drawled behind him.

Harry spun around, wand still raised—only to find Eric Northman standing in the middle of the road, looking amused.

The tall blond vampire cocked his head, arms crossed lazily. “I must say, you’re full of surprises, Harry Potter.”

Harry narrowed his eyes. “You know who I am?”

Eric smirked. “Oh, I do now.” He stepped closer, his blue eyes gleaming in the dim light. “And so will others, if you keep putting on a light show like that.”

Harry tensed. “Are you here to threaten me too?”

Eric chuckled. “Threaten? No. Consider this… a professional curiosity.” He glanced toward the trees where the werewolf had disappeared. “You have enemies, wizard. And they’re watching.”

Harry clenched his jaw. “Yeah, I got that.”

Eric studied him for a moment longer before giving a slight nod. “Careful, Harry. Bon Temps has a way of chewing up interesting people.”

Then, in the blink of an eye, he was gone.

Harry let out a slow breath, gripping his wand tighter.

What the hell had he gotten himself into?
