Chapter 1

From the moment Eryn Black was born, he was different from the rest of his family.

“You’re everything that’s wrong with your mother”, a father that wasn’t even his often said.

Eryn had never met his real father, he didn’t even know if he was still alive.

His existence was a product of an affair his mother had had with a vampire while on holiday in France. Her husband was furious when he found out, but he didn’t leaver her. That wasn’t how the Black family worked. They had a duty to fulfill, happiness came third to that.

Despite his fortunate circumstance of being born male, Eryn’s status as a half blood meant he couldn’t be the Black heir. This only made his father angrier, of course. They had been trying to produce a heir for years, only resulting in having three daughters.

Eryn was close with his half sisters. They adored their little brother and spent much time with him. He was often pushed aside at family events to spotlight them, but they always made sure he was never forgotten, never alone.

Their parents did a good job of keeping their son’s existence quiet. Being a half vampire meant he was the only person who carried the Black name that wasn’t pureblood, therefore making him a disgrace. Every other Black knew this, and avoided him on principle.

It was lonely, sometimes, only having valuable conversations with your sisters. Not many people outside of the family knew about Eryn.

He barely left their house. He couldn’t stay in the sun for long regardless. His meals were a mix of human food and various animals’ blood.

Eryn had often dreamed of running away, of finding his own life far away from his parents.

But this was a fresh start, he thought when his Hogwarts letter had arrived. A fresh start, away from his family, away from all of the hatred.

There he could truly be himself, not what his parents hated so much.

His days at Hogwarts were what he had expected. He was sorted into Slytherin, just like his sisters had. Their company was comforting, but Bellatrix seemed to have become more distant to Eryn as time went on. Narcissa, who was only a year older than him, stuck by Eryn’s side. And Andromeda, who had run away with a muggle born a few years prior, wrote to him at least once a month.

The headmaster, Professor Dumbledore, made sure Eryn’s sustenance needs were met with the help of the gamekeeper, Hagrid.

He’d never been treated so kindly about being a vampire. It took him some time to adjust to being treated like he was normal.

Eryn’s problems at home didn’t go away, though. His parents had some things to say when a teacher had caught Eryn kissing another boy in his second year.

He didn’t care much, though. A streak of rebellion had started running through him since starting school. Like all he had needed was some separation to truly start being who he wanted to be.

All was right in his world. He was about to start his third year at Hogwarts.

And that’s where our story begins.

With a hand behind this pen, we’ll relive this failure every day.
