Makeover Time
Eileen and Severus had moved into a cozy house near the Leaky Cauldron.
A small house with two bathrooms, two bedrooms, a joined kitchen and dining room along with an open living room. They never spent more money than they needed to.
How did it get to this?
Well, here’s how.
Severus thought he heard wrong. No, he must’ve heard wrong. There was no way.
He and Eileen gaped at the lady, though Severus was still being pinched by Lily and Petunia.
“Yes. Thirty thousand along with ten thousand for the deliberate delay.” The lawyer replied nonchalantly, as if she was talking about a recipe for dinner.
“Er… Why didn’t we get it back sooner?” Severus was the first to talk in the tense silence.
”It seems that the man had been delaying it in hopes of Mr Snape forgetting about the money.”
Eileen nodded, seeming to be in thought. Mr Evans cleared his throat.
“But wouldn’t it be too less for a mother and her child? They don’t exactly get income.”
Eileen suddenly stood up and Severus jumped.
“Thank you very much! We’ll be sure to come over to the bank later!”
The lady nodded and walked out of the house.
Everyone was confused. Eileen looked at Severus with a determined expression before turning to the married couple.
“I have an idea on what to do.”
Mrs Evans seemed interested, leaning forward a bit. Mr Evans picked up a cookie and started eating it.
Severus finally got space as the girls sat down and started eating cookies.
“I’m sure you know how Lily has… special skills now.”
Mr Evans choked on his cookie.
“Don’t worry! It’s not bad. In fact, this might be crazy to say, but I’m a witch. Severus and Lily seem to have gotten lucky and got the ability to cast magic.”
Petunia seemed more interested, bouncing in her seat while Lily was trying to feed Severus a cookie.
Severus spoke up, his voice muffled from the cookie shoved in his mouth.
“Buh ‘ow ‘ill it ‘elp?”
Eileen smiled fondly at her son.
“Anyways, there are different subjects on magic. So many. However there is one I excelled in. Potion-making. I can get a job and help Lily learn more.”
Mr Evans and Mrs Evans nodded hesitantly.
“If you don’t believe me, I can show you. Please.”
They looked at each other and sighed.
“Let’s go then.”
Petunia and Lily were trying to make Severus do magic while the three adults sat down on a table.
The Leaky Cauldron wasn’t as packed as it usually was. Tom grinned as he saw Eileen.
“Ah, Mrs Prince, been a while, hasn’t it? I was beginning to think you died.”
Eileen chuckled.
“No, I’ve been fine.”
Mrs Evans raised an eyebrow. The woman had been abused by her husband and she was saying she was fine?
“I have a son now. We’re looking to go to Diagon Alley.”
Tom sighed and gave Severus a gentle look.
“Takes after you.”
Eileen smiled softly.
The group of six had entered Diagon Alley, the four muggles gasping at everything.
Eileen was giving clear explanations to every question they asked her while Severus just looked around with sparkling eyes.
Petunia suddenly spoke up.
“Wait, if you’re getting a job, pretty lady, you need to be clean and have nice clothes!”
Mrs Evans and Mr Evans looked at each other before smiling.
“Ah, yes, you should probably.”
Petunia and Lily shared a glance before grinning at Severus.
He flinched. What were they up to now?
After getting money from Gringotts (the goblins delighted to see a Prince heir), the four muggles dragged Eileen and Severus into a hygiene shop.
Mrs Evans and Petunia took Eileen to the women’s aisle while Mr Evans and Lily took Severus to the kids’ aisle.
Severus nervously coughed.
“Lily, you can go with your mother and sister you know…”
Lily beamed at him.
“I could! But I want to see what the kids can use.”
Mr Evans stopped in front of shampoos and conditioners. He read out the suspicious titles.
“‘Hair Growth Shampoo’. ‘Hair Scenting Conditioner’.”
“…”
“‘Hair Poofing Shampoo?” Lily and her father looked at Severus’ greasy hair and looked at each other, having a silent conversation.
Severus shifted on his feet, nervous at the sudden silence.
The man simply put the shampoo in their basket and moved on.
Lily dragged Severus to the clothing section of the store and her eyes sparkled when she realized that she now had a real life Barbie to dress up.
Severus didn’t protest, just changed into all the clothes Lily chose (which was a lot) and go on with his day.
Eileen and Severus were (kindly) dragged back into the Evans house for a makeover.
Mrs Evans had offered to help Eileen and the latter had rather bash fully agreed.
As for Severus, the boy had also agreed to be washed by Mr Evans.
Except the two Snapes, no, Princes, seemed to keep their cheapskate mindsets.
They didn’t want to take a bubblebath.
Sigh - At least they seemed happier without the abusive male. That’s all that matter for now.
Oh, and getting Eileen a job. That too.
