New Companion

Entrance of the Giant Chasm.

Yuu watched the snowflakes fall from the sky as she stood outside the giant chasm’s entrance. It had only been one day since she had arrived in this world of Pokémon. When Yuu woke up from her uneventful sleep. She decided to explore the building, only to be surprised by the state of the facility building, which was left after being abandoned. Everything in this building was not safe, as cave-ins caused piles of rubble. Everything, ranging from electronics to tableware, was left untouched as heavy layers of dust collected on top of them. Although the power lines seem to work too well to be completely abandoned.

Maybe Kyurem’s presence as a dragon had scared off anybody who was working here. Yuu wasn’t surprised if Kyurem attacked them for territory. As the building was probably built almost completely quite recently, the structure and equipment are in good condition. Yuu decided that she would spend her time improving and repairing the building to a livable state during her stay. As Kyurem told her, this building was given to her to use. It was reasonable since Kyurem couldn’t fit inside this building built for humans. Let alone use anything in this building. It would be amusing for Kyurem to use his short arms to type on the keyboards the size of his claws. She bemusedly smiled at the thought image of Kyurem doing so.

Yuu pulled out her yew wand and got to work with her magic to aid in her progress. As forces of magic travel the hallways, using her low spell-casting and wandless magic that she practiced back in Hogwarts. The building seemed to look a lot more stable than moments ago—but Yuu knew the limits of a simple spell like the Repairing Charm that one could learn in their first year. Unmistakably, the structure of the building was still dangerously unstable, not to mention dilapidated, as hazardous as she carefully explored the facility building. Even with the repairing charm in place, it would hold out for a short time until the charm fell apart. Yuu would have to find a solution while using the charms as a temporary solution. With all the charms repairing the damage around the building, Yuu managed to map out the building with three levels along the way.

Yuu continued to explore and focus on fixing the other areas near her. However, her work was interrupted by Kyruem calling her by using a move that Kyruem explained to Yuu that some Pokémon can use, which is called telepathy. Much as Yuu was interested in learning more about the Pokémon moves. Kyruem requested that she meet him at a certain place and time. Once she had her breakfast served. He would tell her the mission. As Yuu remembers, their conversation went. She was casting several Reparos at the walls.

Yuu.” The cold voice of Kyruem echoed in her head. As Yuu twirls around to see no one but herself in the building. She hastily replied, “Y-yes Kyurem-sama?”

My apologies for startling thou. I have everything ready for the bond ritual. However, thou sound tired. Have thou not slept well?” Yuu hasn’t after receiving a dream that scared her that there wasn’t a wink of sleep that she gained after. The feeling of being stabbed still lingers in her, and her mind refuses to bring up that dream memory despite her wanting to know about the dream.

“... no, Kyurem-sama. I was not used to cold temperatures.” Thinking back on the air conditioner machinery and heater she found in a small closet, other than the dream. She managed to warm herself with those machines and several blankets wrapped around her body during the night. It was only temporary until she fixed the building and cast charms to make everything better. It could do so much with the spare clothes she found. And besides, Yuu can tell Kyurem about the dream another time. As she waited for Kyurem to reply.

I see. I tend to forget that humans like thou are weak to many things. Especially the cold. Very well, I think I would have to add a few things to the list. For now, thou should eat before coming down to me in the Full Court. I will be waiting for thou.”

And with that, the pressure on Yuu’s mind lifted as Kyruem left her alone. She halted on improving the facility building and headed towards the entrance of the faculty building, where she had met many Cryogonals who greeted her with packages of frozen foods. Thanking them for bringing her breakfast. Yuu cooked her food in a cafeteria that she found along the way. Luckily, the kitchen appliances worked well enough that she could use them.

Yuu wonder how old this building was abandoned, if everything in this place works so well despite no one looking after it. She would get her questions answered as she found some old clothes and snowshoes in other rooms. Yuu made her way back outside with heavy steps. She got distracted being outside in the snow, which brought back to her predicament.

It was snowing as she walked back to the giant chasm’s entrance. With every step she took, the temperature dropped to a low extent that Yuu could see her breath of air. Her hands numbly gripped her yew wand as she marched into the maze of the lair that Kyurem was in. Ten minutes later…

She got lost in the unending hallways of the giant chasm’s maze-like structure immediately. She did not know where Kyurem was, nor was there no one to guide her to the place that Kyurem wanted her to go. She was stuck where it would be unwise to cast the Appare Vestigium tracking spell or try to move forward. She had the worst luck in navigating big places, and it took her time to figure out the Hidden Room of Requirement and the secret paths to avoid her peers and bullies. In a cave with no sunlight or anything to direct her, Yuu was unable to do anything. Until the cave walls of the Giant Chasm shook as rubble fell from the ceilings and walls. She quickly cast Protego spells slightly weaker. Yuu was afraid to use high-level magic ever since she—along with the rest of the cowed Ravenclaw class—had been yelled at by a visiting Alastor Moody (who was very cranky in his old age) that relying on her wand was the height of idiocy between shouts of Constant vigilance! So even if she had decided she didn’t care about the Trace anymore, Yuu was reluctant to cast several high-level spells and charms without permission.

Just in case the chances of Trace were effective in different worlds, erring on the side of caution never hurt anyone. In the past, she’d heard the story from her famous classmate, James, about his father going through that hellish trial in 1995 along with the rest of the eagerly listening students in the Great Hall. Caution was always best. But Yuu can let this situation slide as she casts spells. Her life was way more important than the trace and the oath of secrecy. Slowing down heavy debris from crushing her.

Yuu tried to minimize the risk of debris crushing her until a roar of Kyurem thundered in her head. She stayed still as she cast a strong Protego spell barrier before a boulder landed on her. The giant rock bounced off the barrier and split into several smaller rocks. She trembled at his anger as he shouted, “Insolent coward!! Thou attack me and thine run away from the fight!!

Yuu remains silent until all of a sudden, several Cryogonals sweep into the hallway she was in. In the wake of Kyruem’s anger, Yuu can hear him order them to capture the coward, whoever he may be. She hesitantly tried to catch one of the Cryogonals during the chaos, where Kyruem was located, to get help. However, they were too fast for Yuu as they zoomed past her at a frantic speed. Leaving her once again alone and stranded in the maze of hallways. Yuu numbly thought, ‘Why is Kyurem-sama so mad?’

Thankfully, Kyurem’s rage quelled as the quakes in the cave subsided. Yuu took this chance and shouted, “Kyurem-sama?!”

Chosen one…? Are you in the cave corridors?” Kyruem’s voice echoed in her head as she sighed in relief. She said yes as a response. He replied, “Ah… I forgot that I requested thou meet in the full court. Forgive me that there were intruders who attacked me just moments after I had requested thou to come here… We will discuss that when I send thou a guide to the full court, since this place is a maze. Stay where thou art.

Within an hour, Yuu was found and escorted by smaller Cryogonals to an area that appeared to be the full court that Kyurem was referring to. With an infrastructure that resembles an abandoned mine and the Gringotts Wizarding Bank. The full court had many things. There was an opening above the cave where faint snow and sunlight seeped through. It had train tracks and several industrial buildings dug into the cave walls. Yuu noticed Kyruem was right in the crater's center as his yellow eyes stared at orbs of blue.

Come here. Thine companion is here. Waiting for thou.” She made her way down to the bottom of the crater. Yuu took her time walking down the stairs near the entrance without slipping on her oversized boots. Despite that, she shrinks the boots to a certain size. The boots were not fitted properly for her feet to walk on slippery terrain. After nearly two attempts, almost falling to her face, she managed to arrive safely. Kyruem was waiting for her patiently. If not for that something rather large behind Kyurem’s back. Yuu can feel the rage of Kyurem rolling off him.

Much as Yuu’s curiosity grew to want to ask questions. She shut her mouth as she kept quiet as Kyruem spoke, “Now that thou is here. I apologize for sending thou without a guide on thy second day and nearly endangering thy safely without warning. I shall give thou and thy partner a small blessing of ice that thy may be immune to cold temperatures. And thy partner shall reveal thyself right now.”

A small bipedal, reptilian creature came out of the shadows behind Kyurem. As it was small as a baby newborn spirited Chinese Fireball dragon. Most of its body is green with a cream underside, while a yellow stripe runs down the length of its back and tail, and it has yellow markings around its large eyes. Two curved yellow structures that resemble leaf blades protrude from its shoulders. Its slender arms have three fingers, tiny feet, and a large, palmate leaf with three prongs on the end of its tail.

The small snake creature was cute as it walked up to Yuu in tiny footsteps. It bowed its head to her. “Sni.”

“Use thy gift of Arceus to scan Pokémon. It is similar to the device of humans called a Pokedex. It should have information and knowledge whenever thou is troubled through time. There is also a map for thou to find a nearby city of humans.” Yuu took out her gift from Arceus, as she hadn’t used the phone device until now. She had fiddled around with the device until she turned it on. The screen glowed brightly. Yuu noticed a small square box pop onto the screen. The letters on the box read: ‘Welcome to the world of Pokémon. The quests and missions for you are in this app on the top right row, to open and complete whatever you are ready for.’

Yuu had to admit that she was technology illiterate in navigating certain functions on the phone device. It took a moment to figure out that the text and camera lens image with two strange ears was a scanning function, despite knowing how to use the library computers back in her port town. She never touched a phone before she went to Hogwarts, which banned electronic technology to keep magic and technology from mixing like oil and water.

Until Yuu opened the scanner on the small snake Pokemon, a voice read out, ‘Snivy. A grass-type Pokémon. 0495. It is a very intelligent and calm creature. When exposed to lots of sunlight, Snivy becomes more swifter. Especially when bathing its tail in sunlight. However, if not exposed to daily sunlight, they do not do well and their tails droop as a sign.’

The now-identified Snivy snuggled up to Yuu’s leg. Yuu remained still as she processed her thoughts. She had a companion friend. Even if Snivy was her pet. Yuu had a friend by her side. Her love of caring for Magical Creatures overtook her mind as Snivy looked at her with adorable red eyes. Yuu couldn’t withstand the cuteness of her chosen companion. She couldn’t help it! Her number one favorite class was Care of Magical Creatures—overwhelming even Charms, her best subject, and Ancient Runes, the most interesting one—so much so that over the summer before fourth year, she had spent every scrap of free time she could scrounge up together with famed Dragon Tamer Charlie Weasley, managing some of the less dangerous ones in an internship she had only obtained after persistent begging.

Almost all of her classmates and peers back in Hogwarts had a pet companion with them to take care of, while Yuu couldn’t afford one. She spends her time with their pets if given the chance. Even in the Frog choir, as she cooed at her new companion. Kyruem clears his throat, gaining her attention. Snivy and Yuu turn their heads to the ice dragon as Yuu winces and mutters Sorry.

Kyurem dismissed Yuu’s apology as he grumbled, “Chosen hero shouldn’t say sorry for something worth a small trivial. It seems that I won’t be worrying about the synergy between the bonds of both of you. Since thou are getting along with each other much faster than expected. I bear the bad news that I would delay thou journey for the time being due to an invader who came and attacked me with his allies. And then that invader became a coward and ran as I froze his allies in blocks of ice.

As Kyurem moves to the side. Yuu and Snivy can see three big figures half the size of Kyurem, frozen in several chunks of ice, imprisoning them. But Yuu couldn’t see their appearance in the ice, obscuring her vision to see their full appearance what they look like. The ice was too thick. Whoever that invader was had enraged Kyurem. He was not a lenient type, as all dragons do not tolerate those who disturb them. Especially those who dare attack them are a threat to eliminate, no matter what.

And Yuu knows that no foolish person should make an enemy of dragons. Only the arrogant and prideful ones make that mistake and cost them dearly. As a result of Kyurem’s wrath, there was no surprise after he mentioned the invader. Yuu didn’t pity those who test Death on a whim. As Kyurem continued his rant, “I am going to hunt down that coward and bring him here to teach him a lesson for attacking and then leaving a battle unattended. Much as I want to talk to thou and thy companion about thy journey since it would have to wait when I come back with the coward in the meantime. Otherwise, ask the rest of the Cryogonals if thou need assistance in guidance.”

Kyurem was about to leave the Full Court until he stopped and said, “Oh, before I leave. I have something else to give to thou. I found a human trinkle that is of no use to me, and also, Arceus had sent thou something at the altar as well. Use thine wisely.” As two pairs of Cryogonals came forward, they carried a heavy silver crown and a big backpack that the two big snowflake Pokémon had placed in Yuu’s hands. Kyurem finally left the Full Court as Yuu bowed with Snivy on his way.

Yuu and Snivy were left alone with the Cryogonals hovering over the three prisoners. She and Snivy were escorted back to the surface. Yuu could feel a prick behind her back as she looked back at the three frozen prisoners. She could have sworn they were watching her as the doors of the Full Court closed behind her. It wouldn't be the last time that Yuu would be seeing them.

As Yuu walked with Snivy to the faculty building, she decided that carrying Snivy in her arms was a better idea. Since Yuu could shield the grass Pokémon from the frosty weather that Kyurem had left behind. It was a good thing Yuu had done, as Snivy was not yet adjusted to the blessing of ice. It wouldn’t be later until Yuu noticed the building's lack of supplies and food. Even Kyurem told her to stay until he had captured the coward. Yuu and Snivy would be facing shortages depending on how long the ice dragon takes his time.

Listing the things that she and Snivy would need to stock up on. Snivy listened attentively to Yuu as she muttered things while she was looking for some blank sheets of paper and pens. Snivy was left alone as she had some thoughts on her new trainer and Kyurem. Snivy was a newbie trainer Pokémon born and raised in Professor Juniper’s laboratories. Once ready to be chosen by a newbie trainer and explore the outside world, and take on gym battles to become the top champion of Unova, that is what Snivy had always believed in and was taught along with the rest of the Pokémon she was raised with.

Sure, she was strong and had a unique trait that separated her from the other Snivys. Except that particular stuck-up Snivy back at Professor Juniper’s laboratories, that was the strongest compared to the rest of the Snivys. However, Snivy was a picky Pokémon to appease.

She wanted the best of the best. The strongest trainer who will be her life companion by her side. Until the day that Snivy believed has somewhat come true. She was chosen by a Legendary to become a powerful Pokémon with the chosen trainer at their side. Two days ago, when she was still at Professor Juniper’s laboratories. Snivy was sleeping in the grass terrain at midnight. A voice called her.

Pokémon of Unova, I have a trial for thou.”

It wasn’t just any voice. It was the voice of God Arceus. However, she wasn’t the only one who heard the voice of God. All of the grass, fire, and water-type Pokémon that were present that day, who heard Arceus’s voice, became interested in the voice of Arceus, which called them out of nowhere.

Many of them begin to shout over each other and cause the bickering to escalate to fighting each other. Demanding what the trial was about. Snivy silently waited for Lord Arceus to speak his next words. His next words had sent most of the Pokémon living in Professor Juniper’s laboratories cowering in fear.

Thine Pokémon who passed the trial shall be chosen to be the hero of the Ice Dragon, Kyurem’s life partner.”

Every Pokémon went silent. Snivy couldn’t blame them since no Pokémon is insane enough to become a chosen Pokémon to serve the chosen hero of the man-eating ice dragon Kyurem. The man-eating ice dragon that was believed to be an urban legend existed. And no Pokémon would dare be in the presence of danger. Snivy almost didn’t want to become chosen for this one in a lifetime. Almost. However, Snivy was not a quitter. Even though grass types are weak to ice types.

Snivy didn’t let that deter her, as she was the only one who went through the trial of Arceus. Going through several challenges. From riddles to physical battles, Snivy nearly passed with flying colors, earning the mark of Arceus with the hidden mark on her back. Arceus explained that the blessing would increase and grow stronger with her chosen hero trainer. Then he had one of his creations, Giratina, deliver Snivy with her Pokémon ball to the lands of Lord Kyurem, where the ice dragon had greeted her with an icy welcome at the entrance of a giant crater.

Snivy felt intimidated by the cold power that Lord Kyurem had shed from his gray scales. Other than that, Lord Kyurem was a strong and respectable dragon to meet as he was informed that his chosen hero would be arriving later than he expected. Snivy was given free range of authority as she gained access to everywhere. Traveling through tough terrains and taking down bigger opponents than her size within the giant cave. Snivy was tasked to guard and protect the cave along with the snowflake Pokémon that Lord Kyurem commands to his will.

Snivy enjoyed the subtle time that she had with the ice Pokémon around her until her chosen hero trainer had finally arrived. She was ecstatic to hear the news as she tried to look her best to be more presentable. Snivy patiently waited until Lord Kyurem called her.

Everything went a bit rocky after Snivy had witnessed a four-legged Pokémon attacking Kyurem, provoking him to fight him and even mocking the ice dragon. Snivy was rather appalled that the mean-spirited Pokémon had the gall to taunt the ice dragon and then lose to Lord Kyurem with their horn broken off. She had no remorse for the Pokémon who begged Lord Kyurem not to kill them.

Until the Swords of Justice stepped in and made everything ten times worse. When Snivy heard that the defeated Pokémon was Keldeo, an apprentice and sword in training. The swords of Justice created his trial to defeat Lord Kyurem. A trial to fight and defeat the ice dragon. Are they insane?! Sure, Lord Kyurem is strong, but was never considered to be a grand threat to anyone. Snivy had been noticing that he never went outside the giant chasm without a reason. Never attack any Pokémon unless they are asking for it. The nerve to attack a dragon or any strong Pokémon would be to return the attack with an encounter attack. That is common sense and instinct, but make Lord Kyurem, the ice dragon, a trial to defeat? A foolish mistake on the swords of Justice’s simple thinking.

Snivy doubts that Lord Kyurem had the consent to be part of this trial or was aware that he was being used as a trial of battle. If anything, Lord Kyurem was beyond pissed by the fact he was taken so lightly. And Dragons don’t like to be taken lightly, as their pride allows it. As the swords of Justice tried to subside or attempted to stop Lord Kyurem. Lord Kyurem had blasted the trio of swords into blocks of ice. Keldeo fled during the attack. He weaved and dodged many of the Cryogonals present in the fight as he escaped the cave.

Snivy huffed at Keldeo’s fleeing figure. The Swords of Justice had a very prideful and reckless student who put them in deep trouble. With the Sword of Justice trapped in ice. There was no way that a mere sword in training would escape the wrath of Lord Kyurem. His rage was stopped temporarily when the chosen hero spoke up. It was an awkward moment when Lord Kyurem had forgotten about them and left them in the maze of hallways, stranded and lost.

When Lord Kyurem got his anger under control to some extent. Muttered an apology for the chosen hero when they finally arrived at the bottom of the full court. Snivy had remained in the shadows until he called her to reveal her presence.

Snivy didn’t have a picky preference for what her chosen trainer would look like. Doesn’t mean she had some ideal appearance of the Ice Dragon’s hero before that ideal was dashed to the ground. Her chosen partner looked fragile, that the young teenage girl would snap like a twig against a mild breeze. Her unique shade of black hair was poorly conditioned and ruffled up like some Pokémon had made a nest out of her. Despite the girl being drowned in heavy, warm clothes, she looks smaller at a distance.

Nonetheless, Snivy knows that thinking that this girl was chosen to be Lord Kyurem’s chosen hero was some bluffing joke. But God Arceus rarely makes mistakes in his judgment. So Snivy let it sit and approach her chosen trainer. Staring into the young girl’s hidden blue eyes. The girl seems to be fond of Snivy and took an immediate liking to her.

Snivy melted in her arms after Lord Kyurem dismissed them. Bringing Snivy back to where her thoughts and judgment on her chosen trainer, whose name she hasn’t gotten yet. Even though there was something about her chosen trainer that nagged Snivy. She didn’t let that bother her. She has a Pokémon trainer as a partner.

And Snivy had a lot of time until her partner let her walls down. Her partner has a lot on her plate after all.
