Remus turned his head lazily and accidentally dove his gaze into the greyish oceans in Sirius's eyes.
Remus was lying on the bed with a book Sirius had lent him held above his head. It had been a while, though, since the last moment he actually read something, because he kept getting distracted by Sirius's light breathing.
The other boy was sitting at his desk and supposedly doing his homework, but when finally Remus let himself catch a glimpse of Sirius, he caught him already looking at him, a small smile making its way on his face.
They both blushed and rapidly went back to what they were doing.
After that Remus was able to focus a little more, at least until something slipped from the book cover and fell right next to him.
He slowly put down the book and picked up the object, which turned out to be an envelope.
On the back there was something written in Sirius's beautiful handwriting: "to RJL".
With a shiver of excitement Remus noticed those were his initials.
His hands were shaking, but he managed to quietly open the envelope and pull out the letter that was inside.
"Dear Moony,
There's something I've been meaning to tell you, so here it is: I have feelings for you. I've had feelings for you since the moment I laid my eyes on you. At first I thought it was just an innocent crush, but Godric, it just wouldn't go away. And it never did: everytime I smell chocolate my heart beats faster, everytime I read a book the only thing that's in my mind is whether you'd like it or not. Whenever you enter a room the whole world seems to light up. So, Remus John Lupin, my Moony, I love you. And even though you probably won't feel the same, I will always love you.
Padfoot"
Remus read the letter so many times he thought it would burst into flames.
He couldn't believe it. He hadn't even noticed it, but he had tears in his eyes and the widest grin on his lips.
Without thinking, he sniffled, and that caught Sirius's attention.
«Remus? Are you okay?» he said while turning around on the chair.
As Remus sat up on the bed, still tearing up, Sirius saw the letter in his hands.
His eyes opened wide, as pure panic started running thought his veins. He jumped up from the chair.
«Shit shit shit Moony, I don't want to ruin our friendship, you weren't supposed to read that, just forget about it...»
He was abruptly interrupted by an exasperated groan from Remus.
«Padfoot, you bloody idiot, I love you!» Remus cried out.
Sirius's eyes were vague for a couple of seconds, as if trying to process the information.
Then the purest smile Remus had ever seen started tugging at Sirius's lips and a second later he quite literally threw himself on the bed. He got very close to Remus and put their foreheads together.
«Are you serious?» he asked, his voice a pure flow of happiness.
«I thought I was Remus...» Remus answered, a grin painted on his lips too.
They both laughed.
And then they kissed.
And it was perfect.
Sirius tasted like coffee and Remus tasted like chocolate, and as their two worlds collided they felt something that no word could ever express, like watching a universe expand, like sitting on a beach and looking at the sunset and feeling like the world is being handed to you and running and screaming and dancing and finally, finally, being happy to be alive.
In that moment the world just stopped, and suddenly everything made sense: the wolf and the dog, the moon and the star, meant to be together forever and ever and always-

«Moony? Moons, are you alright?» Sirius asked him.
Remus snapped harshly back to reality. He was in Transfiguration class.
«What? Oh... Yeah, sorry, I'm fine...».
He had been daydreaming. Of course he had. How stupid of him.
Sirius was getting bored now, so he put down his head on the desk and dozed off.
He was like a magnet for Remus, who couldn't get his eyes off of him.
As Remus watched the love of his life sleep, he fought the urge to hug him tight and kiss him and never let go of him.
It took all his willpower to finally move his gaze away from the other boy and focus on the lesson.
He felt his heart break a little bit, and it broke even more when he realised that Sirius's wasn't breaking.
A tear rolled down his cheek and he wiped it away quickly, before anyone could notice.
Because their two worlds would never collide.
Because nobody is ever free.
Because people aren't happy to be alive.
Because dreams never come true.
Because the wolf never gets the dog.
Because the moon and the star are always close, but never together.
Because it never goes as it should.
Because we can live in our dreams, but in reality perfect things never happen.
Never.
