Chapter 4
Severus ignored the weird feeling in his gut, focusing on Evan.
Evan grinned at him for the umteenth time that day, starting to go on a rant about his summer break.
Severus always thought the pureblood was just acting, wanting to manipulate him for entertainment.
But Evan remained loyal.
Severus grew fond.
Though he would never admit it, he liked the materialistic things Evan got him. Lots of stuff, high quality no less. But he felt that it was out of pity.
He had confided that with Evan and the boy literally shook the fact that he bought them for him as a gift into the poor guy (pun not intended but kept).
Severus sighed, leaning his head onto Evan’s shoulder.
Evan seemed to be the only person in the world who wanted to touch his greasy hair.
Even Poppy wouldn’t touch his hair.
Evan quickly got silent and leaned back against the smaller boy.
The Slytherins were too focused on themselves to notice them, though who could blame the house of egocentric narcissists.
James glowered at the greasy-haired boy, glasses sliding down his nose.
Snivellus seemed to be getting close with the Rosier boy.
The Potter didn’t want the Slytherin to have friends. He deserved it, for saying he wanted to be in the house, the house of dark wizards and witches.
It might seem mean but Severus was a Slytherin. That makes it okay, right?
Gryffindors are good, Slytherins are bad.
That’s always true, isn’t it? That’s what the wizarding world said.
“Prongs, loosen up. Even Snape has feelings too.” Remus spoke up, though rather softly, as if wishing to remain unheard.
Sirius scoffed from besides James.
“That git deserves whatever comes if he’s going to be all lovey-dovey with Rosier! Everyone knows that the Rosiers followed the Dark Lord.” He whispered the last part.
James couldn’t help but agree.
Remus looked at his two best friends and pressed his lips together, eventually nodding his head.
“You’re right. The Rosier family has gone quiet after the Dark Lord disappeared…”
James and Sirius smiled at him.
He smiled back. That’s right. They were his best friends, on and on. Whatever they were saying was what he went with.
Not for anyone. Not for anything.
Especially a Slytherin.
Remus looked at the boy at the other table, feeling his chest tighten up.
James and Sirius didn’t like Sever- no, Snivellus.
He couldn’t betray their trust like this. Not when they know so much and care so much for him.
He looked away, going back to the chocolate pudding he was eating.
That’s right, he’s not friends with a Slytherin and he never was.
Remus felt guilt shoot up from every contour of his body. He owed the boy his ‘Outstanding’ in Potions.
But it was just grades right?
What could go wrong right?
Remus sighed. He was changing his thoughts so rapidly this evening, he even shocked himself!
Severus woke up to the sound of Evan’s soft snoring. The pureblood had insisted on sleeping in the same bed after Severus told him about the nightmares of his father.
Severus snuggled closer.
Evan knew everything about Severus and Severus knew everything about Evan.
He slowly, very slowly, wiggled out of the blonde’s grip and started to get ready for the school day. He liked being early. No problem being early. So many problems being late.
Severus patted Evan’s head gently before deciding to go to Poppy.
He did promise to tell her everything and he took promises seriously.
He stretched his arms over his head and groaned, a weird smile on his face. He wasn’t used to being treated normally. Happiness was a new aspect to him and he was learning to get used to it.
After all, everyone deserves love, right? Even Slytherins?
Unbeknownst to him, four Gryffindors were already awake and planning their devious tricks. Shame they didn’t share the same mindset of who deserves love.
