Awaiting an Owl

“Relax Vi.” Lily hugged her little sister, Vi was frowning as she watched the sky.

“What if I don’t get a letter?” Vi frowned.

“Well, your birthday is at an awkward timing Vi. Remember what my letter said, the reply needed to be sent back by the 31st of July at the latest.  And your birthday falls on 1st of August. So, if you are due a letter, you may need to wait another year.” Lily told her, Vi grumbled. “You really want to join those boys at Hogwarts, don’t you?"

“Yeah, I really do Lil.” Vi frowned. “It’s gonna be real stupid when I don’t get a letter…” She covered her face. Lily sighed softly, she shifted slightly and pulled Vi back, so she was looking at the ceiling, her head on Lily’s lap.

“Vi, I may not get on with Potter and the other troublemakers… but they seriously care for you.” Lily said, “And I know you’d have a lot of fun at Hogwarts with them, but I also know they won’t stop being your friend even if you don’t get to go to Hogwarts.”

“I know, Sirius reassured me too… but, I want to help him more Lil…” Vi sighed. “I know he has issues with his family and he is going to get worse treatment if they find out I am just a muggle… what if he gets hurt because of me?”

“Sirius knows what he is doing Vi.” Lily told her. “That much I know, they won’t let anything happen to each other, and they definitely won’t like you blaming yourself. Its not your fault his family is nuts.”

“But still…” Vi looked up at her sister.

“You can still help, even as a Muggle silly.” Lily giggled. “You may not get a wand, but I have seen you with a rounders bat, and that’s enough for most others to know not to mess with you. Oh, that reminds me, when is your next game?”

“Roslyn and I are getting two teams together for a match next Saturday, we are undecided on rounders or whether to play cricket.” Vi replied and sat up. “Are you going to come and watch?” She asked excited.

“Of course.  I am going to get pictures. There is a potion that I can make to make pictures move like in the wizarding world. I want to capture and few moments of your game to show off a bit to the rest of my house.” Lily beamed. “And it’s been a while since I have seen it. Maybe you should reach out to Potter and Black, bet they would love to see the match too.”

“You think so?” Vi frowned.

“Oh definitely, Black is interested in the muggle world right?”

“Yeah…”

“Then lets use it as a lesson. And Potter is going to aim for the Quidditch team this year, I wanted to show off your athletic ability.”

“Ah, you want to show me off.” Vi giggled lying back down. “Bet I could ask James to invited Remus and Peter too. That’d be fun.” Vi smiled.

“Want to borrow my owl?” Lily smiled softly.

“Is that okay?” Vi asked.

“Yep, but you write the invites, I am going to tell Mom and Dad, I don’t think they will too mad.”

“Thanks Lil.” Vi was quick yop get up and move to her desk, pulling out a notebook and pen and began writing some invites. Lily headed downstairs to ask her parents.

“Hey Mom, Dad, you know Vi is setting up that rounders or cricket match next Saturday?” Lily asked, finding her parents in the kitchen, Petunia was at the table doing homework.

“She wants to invite her pen pals?” Petunia smirked.

“Yep, I suggested it. She really wants a Hogwarts letter, but she is anxious about not getting on too.” Lily took a seat. “I suggested it as a way to help take her mind off it.”

“I don’t see an issue with it.” Mr Evans looked at his wife.

“I don’t mind, that was a lovely idea Lily.” Mrs Evans smiled happily. “I can pack up a picnic for us too.” Mrs Evans, hugged Lily. “I know you’re not fond of them but thank you for being so mature about all of this.,”

“Severus does fight back… but they haven’t been nasty to Vi, so I can deal with them.” Lily said.

“You’re such a lovely big sister.” Mr Evans smiled proudly.

“They are going to be amazed at the sport… you also just want to show the match off don’t you?” Petunia smirked.

“You know me so well Tuney.” Lily beamed.

Sirius,

Next Saturday a few friends and I are getting together to play a Muggle sport, we are debating between Rounders or Cricket, but I want to extend an invite out to you and the other three, James, Remus and Peter!. I have added additional invites in if you can send them off. Figured it would be easier to send them to you first. I have a bunch of questions about Owl Post, but I will ask you when we next week.

Hope to receive your reply soon,

Vi

Violet happily put the letter in the envelope and sealed it. Lily’s owl, a Tawny Owl called Hazel, nipped her finger softly, and accepted the letter.

“Can you send this to Sirius Black for me?” Vi asked, Hazel hooted and took off, flying out of the open window,

“You send the invites?” Lily rejoined her, “Mom and Dad are fine with it.”

“Really that’s a relief. So its just waiting for the replies.”  Vi sat on her bed, “I hope they can come.”

“Me too Vi.” Lily smiled softly.

That’s Evans’ Owl.” Potter pointed at an Owl that arrived at Potter Manor where the four boys were hanging out for the day.

“From Vi maybe?” Remus suggested, their questions were answered as it landed before Sirius.  Dropping the letter for him, Sirius picked it up and opened the letter.

“Oh, Vi has a muggle game next Saturday, wants to invite us all to watch.” Sirius smiled.

“Which sport?” Remus asked curiously.

“Um, Rounders or Cricket.” Sirius read.

“Oh, we should go. You guys would love it. It has a similar play to Beaters in Quidditch.”

“Interesting…” James hummed lightly. He rushed inside to ask his parents, before he ran out with a beam. “I can go! I imagine you’re going anyway Sirius.”

“Obviously. What about you two?” Sirius looked at Lupin and Peter.

“I need to ask.” Peter mumbled.

“I need to ask my parents too.” Remus agreed.

“I’ll let Vi known.” Sirius smiled. “You may want to send her a letter once you have a reply.”

“Will do, let her know for me.” Remus nodded in agreement.

Sirius couldn’t wait to see what the Muggle game was like.
