Chapter 2

“Harry,” Andromeda laughed, “put the boy down. He’s going to get sick if you keep throwing him around like that.”

Harry gave her a grin, “he’ll be fine, besides, he likes it. Look.” Harry set the boy on the ground.

As if on cue Teddy giggles, “up! Up! Up!” The child demands, tugging on the hem of Harry shirt.

Andromeda sighs, “don’t stop on my account, just know that if he throws up you’re picking it up.” Before she could even finish speaking Harry had lifted the child up in the air and was throwing him again.

Teddy giggling like a madman every time he went weightless. “More up! More up!”

Harry complied, tossing Teddy into the air a bit higher. As if in slow motion Teddy went up, bouncy curls covering his face slightly.

Teddy didn’t fall, he was suspended in the air, levitating above marry. Harry blinked, the child tilting his head and mimicking his motion, before the metaphorical bubble was pupped and Teddy fell down into his outstretched arms.

“He’s getting better at that,” Andromeda muses.

Harry laughed, tickling the toddler. “He is isn’t he! Last Sunday he was barely able to hold it for a second before he fell.”

“Down!” The child demanded, “down. down.” Teddy wiggled, squirming out of Harry’s grasp before running out the room.

Footsteps decided before returning with the child. “Wait.” He told Harry sternly.

When Harry raised his hands in defense the child nodded and smiled before running off again.

They fell silent for a few seconds before Harry spoke up, “do you think it’s the upcoming full moon?”

“It could be.” Andy conceded, “he is half werewolf so it would make sense if his powers were connected to the moon.”

Harry nodded. “Has he transformed outside of the full moon yet?”

Andy shook her head, “no, not yet. We’ve had a few close calls when he sprouted ears at the shop but I got a hat on him quickly enough.”

Harry nodded, “I’ll talk to him. Maybe if he learned to completely shift he wouldn’t have that problem.”

“Why?” She questioned, “so he can start sprouting fangs and a tail at home.”

Harry snorted, “no, so he can better control it.”

Andy shook her head, “he’s three, the most that will do is encourage him to shift in a less subtle way.”

“Not if we make it into a game.” Harry counters, “I mean look at his metamorphic abilities, he’s been getting better and better at not shifting his colors outside of the house.”

“Of course he is.” Andy preened, “that’s because he’s a smart little wizard.”

“So then it’ll be fine.” Harry concluded, “I can talk to him about it tonight while at the cabin and i can get send you a photo if he successfully shifts. I can even bring him back home if you want so he spends the day with you before we go back for the full moon.”

Andy gives him a stern look, “alright, you can take him for both days, but only because I know how warded that shack is.”

Harry laughed, “it’s not a shack, it’s got five bedrooms and three levels.”

“Come on teddy, just close your eyes.” Harry encouraged, sitting on the floor across from Teddy.

The sun was burning high in the sky, only the wards were keeping them from getting sun burnt.

The toddler huffed, “ninight eyes.” He shot back, opening his eyes.

“Right,” Harry murmured to himself, “let’s try something different.”

The wizards glanced around the clearing where the grass was long and wildflowers were blooming, stuck with an idea when he saw two butterflies chatting each other.

Harry tugged on his magic and within seconds a shaggy dog was sitting in his spot. The Giant Schnauzer stood, stretching briefly before running towards the porch and grabbing a golden snitch plush that Ron got him last Christmas.

Teddy gave up on pretending to be closing his eyes and mediating when Harry returned.

“Play?” He questioned.

Harry did an exaggerated play now and shook the toy before running away. Teddy chased after him, eyes flashing slightly as he reached Harry’s movements.

Just as Harry suspected Teddy slowly but surely started gaining speed, small enhancements he made subconsciously as the child tried to catch him.

But Harry was faster, the Schnauzer turned on the spit and sprinted into the tall grass, evading Teddy and earning a small growl in response.

“No! Bad play.” Teddy is getting angry.

‘Good’, Harry smirked.

As Teddy continued to chase after him, Harry made sure to occasionally lead him back to where they were sitting down Teddy could drink some water, pretending to be at a standstill whenever he stoped running.

Slowly but surely Harry could see the changes in Teddy as he grew more annoyed and desperate to catch him. His eyes had changed, ears elongating to track him better through the grass whenever he would loose Harry. Harry periodically shook him off his trail only to sneak up on him, boop him, and the run again.

As if something had snapped Teddy was suddenly replaced by a small to cub, who was determined to catch up to Harry.

Harry let the cub catch him after a little more chase, falling dramatically when the pup nipped his heel.

Teddy dramatically climbed on top of him and started pulling at his ear, shaking his head as if he had defeated Harry.

Giant Schnauzer nudged the little pup off him and carried him back to their original spot after scenting him.

The pup was so exited to discover he had shifted that he tuned himself an electric blue color. Harry shifted back, boisterous laughed erupting as he reaching into his pocket and took a photo.

The magical photo turned out great. It started with Teddy as an electric blue color spinning around and chasing his tail only to end in a color tornado as Teddys fur end up with  Teddy stumbling, dizzy, and covered in splotches of vibrant colors.

He copied the photo then held it up so Cleom, a beautiful Eurasian eagle-owl —that he was gifted back when he defeated Voldemort—swooped down and took the photo to Teddys grandma.

The next day Teddy shifted much easier, it only took Harry shifting for him to mimic his movements.

The half werewolf wasn’t affected by the full moon like Werewolves typically are. He doesn’t become an out of control being with one goal in mind like others fear.

While the toddlers actions are more instinctual than usual he doesn’t have a list for blood, in fact if anything he’s more cautious. And now that he can actually turn into a wolf Harry can really see that.

Wolves aren’t violent creatures, they’re sociable and intelligent beings. They don’t seek out people to kill, they run from them. And above all, Teddy is still human.

Teddy still has his childlike curiosity and the capability to think with human logic. He knows what human things are and what they do. He knows not to go out of the wards or to chase after squirted because food isn’t scarce or withheld

He uses his knowledge about the Wizarding world too. He knows not to follow the Hippogriff tracks or to try and pounce of Cleo, Harry’s Owl.
