Mary

Mary couldn’t eat or sleep, she struggled to get herself out of bed and get ready, showering became a hard task for her. She struggled to do basic tasks, and she hated it. Mary was someone who liked to be doing something, she didn’t care what as long as she wasn’t just sat around. She once let Alice Fortescue teach her to knit and Mary despises knitting.

All Mary could think about is what happened. What they did to her, the hexes they sent at her over and over again. The thought made her feel sick, sometimes she would even end up dry heaving over the toilet.

The fear of showering came from all the cuts and bruises left over her body, she couldn’t bare to look at them, them bringing back that day. They didn’t do anything inappropriate to her, but the physical pain and words they used caused enough damage.

The they that she is referring to is Mulciber and his little gang, or Snape and his gang. She doesn’t exactly remember who’s ‘gang’ it is and she doesn’t care to remember.

It was specifically Mulciber and Avery who caused the most damage. The other two boys, Wilhelm Wilkes and Severus Snape, sort of just watched, occasionally adding on their opinions.

The group of slytherins did this because Mary’s a muggleborn, and they don’t like them, always feeling the need to make rude comments towards them. Though, she never expected them to make an attack on one of them.

Mary is sat in her dorm listening to her two best friends, Marlene McKinnon and Lily Evans, argue over something. She wasn’t listening at first but realised it may take her mind off of things. So she listens to the petty argument they’re having.

“Lily, I love you, I really do. Your my best friend.” Marlene starts, Mary not having any idea where this is going, “and don’t get me wrong, James can be very egotistical and over the top, but he’s great Lils. You should really try giving him a chance.”

Of course. They’re arguing over James Potter. This is an occasional thing, and usually Mary joins in, either defending Lily or agreeing with Marlene. James fancies Lily, but Lily won’t give him the light of day. Which is completely understandable but Mary also thinks if Lily gave him a chance, she’d really like him.

“Marlene, how many times do I need to tell you?” Lily was getting irritated, and Mary could tell. “I fancy someone else, a girl.”

Lily says this all the time but refuses to tell her two best friends who it is. Which Mary finds annoying, because Mary told Lily when she fancied Sirius so she doesn’t understand why her best friend can’t tell her.

“If you tell me and M who it is, I’ll leave you alone about James.” It wasn’t going to work, Mary had tried, but she doesn’t tell Marlene that.

Lily just shakes her head, and Marlene looks over at Mary waiting for her to chime in and get the ginger girl to tell them but Mary doesn’t want to push Lily. If she doesn’t want to tell them, she won’t force her.

“No marls, she doesn’t want to tell us and that’s completely fine.” Mary says, which typically, she would never say so confused looks are all she gets in response, “I’d like to know just as much as you but we can’t just force her marls.”

Marlene then nods in understanding, and that’s when the boys walk in. James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew. The seven of them had formed a group in first year and have been inseparable ever since.

They’re a pretty tight knit group, they will happily befriend other people but never do they let others be apart of the group.
Mary loves her friends, all of them. Even though they can be annoying sometimes they all have qualities about them that she loves, and will always love. However, she won’t ever tell any of them this. She made give the odd platonic ‘I love you’ but that’s about it.

James is a very bright person, always finding the positive in everything and Mary adores it about him. Yes, James can have his days where he’s upset or angry but Mary is always there for him on those days just as he is for her when she has her days.

Sirius has a great style that influences Mary. He always has the best clothes and always rocks his outfits, walking the corridors with confidence. Mary occasionally steals said clothes, she never tells Sirius when she does, but she knows Sirius doesn’t care.

Remus is a pretty quiet person, preferring to keep to himself and read. Mary goes to him when she just doesn’t want to talk to people because Remus understands. When Marys had a stressful day, she likes to sit in silence drawing, and Remus is the only one who can sit in silence for a long period of time.

Peter is funny. He is absolutely hilarious, always making Mary laugh, even when she doesn’t feel like laughing. He’ll come out with the most random things, having the most random thought and always sharing them with the group. He knows exactly how to brighten peoples days.

Marlene has an attitude that Mary aspires to have. Not that Mary doesn’t have an attitude towards people, but unlike Marlene, Mary isn’t good with criticism and will take things to heart. She never shows it but she does and wishes she could take that criticism like Marlene, with no care in the world.

Finally, Lily’s confidence. See, Lily is plus-size, which doesn’t change the fact that she’s absolutely gorgeous, but people tend to make fun of her for it. But Lily never cares, she still stays confident, loving her body and Mary loves it about her.

“What’re you lot talking about?” Sirius doesn’t waste time in asking. That’s another thing about him, Sirius wants to know everything even if it doesn’t have anything to do with him. But Mary can’t complain because she’s the same.

“None of your business Black.” Marlene replies with a dirty look, which doesn’t offend Sirius at all, of course.

The long-haired boy just dramatically sighs, collapsing on the bed beside them which happened to be Lilys. James laughs, doing the exact same thing landing beside the other boy. Remus sits beside Mary and Peter beside Marlene.

The rest of the group begin talking, but Marys thoughts trail back to the attack. She hasn’t told her friends about it, and she doesn’t ever plan on doing so. She doesn’t want anyone to know, if they do, they’ll make her talk about it and that’s the last thing she wants to do.

She just wants to forget all about it, she knows it’ll take a while but its better than talking about her feelings and how it made her feel. It’s better than having to relive that day in words and not thoughts.
