The bet
“Peux-tu juste casse toi pour une fois j'ai l'impression que tu me suis partout, va rejoindre ton groupe sournois!”
An aggravated sirius screamed at his brother before plopping down in a seat next to remus and sliding the door shut
“Woah what was that’ll about?” james questioned
“Oh it's nothing, just my stupid little brother, he doest understand that i don't wanna hang out with him like 24/7”
Sirius said as he slumped into a position so he was half laying in remus’ lap
“Oooooo and he speaks french too”
“Don't act like i haven't mentioned regulus before”
“You have, but mmmm he speaks french, i'm gonna have to start talking to him more”
Sirius knows James is joking but still kicks him in return for his snarky comment. Justifying it in his mind as his best friend would never fall in love with his brother.
After a short time Sirius ends up falling asleep in remus’ lap. after getting screamed at until sunrise last night sirius was well beyond ready to sleep
James was bored. And a bit sick of the pda from Remus and Sirius right in front of him.
“Hey pete, wanna go do something fun” he said jokingly
The timid boy next to him shook his head and continued to play with the chocolate frog card he got earlier
James slumped down farther out of his seat
Halfway on the floor he pouted trying to think of something to do for the rest of the ride
“Dear god james, what's your problem” remus said
A mumbled “im bored” came out of his mouth before he continued to his pouting
All four of them sat in that cabin quietly and awkwardly until sirius woke up
“Aww did princess get all of his sleep” james taunted
“Hey i'm not a princess, i'm a queen respect me”
“Sorry i didn't realize your that old 500 year old muggle queen”
“Hey im only 400 i think, but i look pretty good for my age right” sirius said obviously complement fishing
“He's right he is very pret–
“Oh moony shut it you simp”
And just like that the harmless banter began again just like the past 3 years on there way to hogwarts
They reached the castle at 5 o’clock all being pretty tired luckily getting to eat dinner shortly after they arrived
During the sorting ceremony james was occupied looking for regulus
He knew regulus was a year 3 and slytherin from prior conversations with sirius
After trying to subtly see the entire slytherin table which was behind him sirius nudged him
“Mate what the hell are you trying to do, cause if you jinxed the slytherin table why didn't you tell me”
“He's probably looking for your brother to shag” remus joked
“James if your looking for snivilly he's over–
“I know where snivilly is and i didnt jinx their table, i was just uhhhh planning” james said nervously cutting off sirius
A smirking remus then whispered to james across the table
“He's behind you”
James whipped around so fast you could’ve sworn he teleported 180 degrees right in front of your eyes
Life was better at that moment. God he was majestic. He could just sit there forever watching his pretty, curly, dark hair
Peter had to force james out of his trance only for a blushing james to make eye contact with a disgusted sirius
“I swear if you fuck my brother”
“Dont act like you and moony are pure and innocent”
“I never said that, im just not a brother fucker”
“Damn chill im not gonna fuck your brother”
James sat fully back down in his seat being nudged by peter just moments later
“Hey look behind you”
James shifted so he could see regulus again
Oh god he was looking at james with a stupid smirk
A very red james turned back to facing sirius half joking when he said
“What would you do if i got your brother”
“Ha he's straight he wouldn't date you and i'll bet on that”
“How much” james offered playing into his bet
“50”
“100”
“Deal but you have a year to ask him out on one date, oh and i'll be adding interest if you don't pay me in time” sirius say cockily leaning back almost falling in his own arrogance
“As if you'll win”
When the dinner ended the prefects lead the houses to their common rooms
When the 4 of them got to the dorm room it was all a blur when they saw Remus and Sirius dive into the same bed immediately closing the curtains around the bed. Everybody pretty much knew about them dating but they really tried to keep the pda light to james relief.
“Guys i'm gonna go to the library, i wanna go get that animagus book we found last year”
Sirius yawned while telling james
“Good luck but we are sleeping good tonight”
“Ewww” james joked while leaving
James walked out of the dorms not expecting the absolute chaos of the year 1s being this hyper and parent less. James thankfully survived the absolute madness of the common room. He then walked down what felt like 50 flights of stairs to the library. James was planning to stay a few hours in the non-restricted area to not raise suspicion then get the book from the restricted section and if questioned he’d say he accidentally fell asleep in the library but until then James would have to stare at a book. Eventually he found a table far enough away from the librarian. James plopped down in a chair realizing how bored he was going to be for the next few hours. James hated reading partly from how hard it was for him and partly from his constant jittery feeling after he sat for too long. All James had with him
was his invisibility cloak, the map, and his wand.
Ohh yeah the map he had been the person to keep the map over the summer and had quickly grabbed it when he left the dorm quickly opening it to see if anyone was around. All he saw was the expected, the librarian, a few students, lily evans who james had a crush on before sadly learning she is a lesbian, random person, random person, regulus black, wait regulus black, that's sirius brother, with a slytherin girl.
“Oh i guess sirius was right” james mumbled
Dragging himself off his chair and over to the bookshelf next to him. Now he didn't even want to wait to get the animagus book. He was warned he should've taken what Sirius said. Blindly skimming over
all the books on the shelf in front of him while holding back tears. He should've known. James wasn't sad about the money or the bet, just pure pain knowing he couldnt have the pretty boy he wanted. James snatched the map and his wand off the table running out of the library figuring he'd get to the restricted section some other day. Running from the library to the dorms again was not fun but he just wanted to sleep. Maybe a night of sleep would fix everything.
