If We Make it Out (Can I Kiss You?)
It had been a day. All the varsity soccer boys, fresh from a tournament, the first of the season, that had been over two hours away, had elected to stay the night at Danny’s. They’d ordered pizza and spent almost an hour picking a movie that no one ended up watching anyway. They should have been sleeping, but they all seemed too exhausted to fall asleep. Kele felt strange, the effects of sleep deprivation catching up with him. He shook himself out of a fuzzy stupor and stood up to find the bathroom, maneuvering through the maze of teenagers sprawled on the floor. He made his way upstairs, only to find the bathroom closed with another person waiting outside. It was Dominic. He turned his head to say hello and suddenly perked up, straightening out of his tired slouch when he saw Kele.
“Hey,” Kele leaned on the wall next to him, letting his head lean back against the wall as they waited. They waited for another minute or two until Dom turned and looked at him. He looked back, not sure what to do.
“Has anyone ever told you that you’re extremely attractive?” Dom said slowly. He sounded sleepy but his words couldn’t have been clearer. Kele blinked in surprise, suddenly reminded of an evening from quite some time ago.
“Uh, yeah,” he replied in a half-dazed state. He found himself gazing at Dom’s lips instead of his eyes. They were nice lips, decently plump with a pretty color. They were always smiling, but right now they were in a neutral expression, parted slightly. He saw them move and almost missed what Dom asked.
“Can I kiss you?” It was so quiet Kele almost did miss it, but he heard enough of it to be surprised. He tore his gaze from Dom’s lips to look him in the eyes. Dom looked up at him shyly, as if embarrassed that he’d even asked. His eyes were dark without a light on, but Kele could see the anxious expression.
“Yes,” he rushed into the word without stopping to think about it too long. God, he couldn’t even configure just how long he’d been wanting to do just that. Now it was Dom’s turn to be surprised. He stood as tall as he could and Kele leaned down into the kiss. Dom’s lips were as nice as they looked, soft and warm against Kele’s own. The kiss was like none Kele had ever had before. He pulled back to take a deep breath. Dom looked at him nervously, afraid he’d done something wrong. Kele stared down at him. All he could see was every time he’d ever talked to Dom. It was always something good, with Dom looking up at Kele just like he was right now, with wide eyes and a longing expression. Without a second thought, Kele pressed forward and kissed him again, resting his hands on Dom’s hips. Dom returned the favor, leaning into the kiss and wrapping his arms around Kele’s waist. Kele’s head was spinning. He’d never realized how perfect a kiss could feel, like fire shooting up his spine. His eyes fluttered, completely relaxed and feeling as if he could float away. Dom was sliding his hands along Kele’s back. Dom pulled away first this time, looking like he couldn’t believe his luck. He backed into the nearest bedroom, dragging Kele with him. Kele had no problem with this, kissing him as they walked. Dom pulled away again to fall into the bed. The room looked plain, probably a guest room. Kele was still standing by the side of the bed. Dom was waiting for him, leaned back on his elbows and looking up at Kele through thick lashes. He was looking doubtful at Kele’s apparent hesitance. Kele shook himself and crawled onto the bed and positioned himself over Dom, who gave him a small, shy smile before leaning up to press their lips together again. They continued the same practice over and over again, rolling around the bed. At some point, Dom ended up on top of Kele, hips slotted in between Kele’s thighs. He wondered fleetingly if anyone had noticed their absence, but Kele caught his bottom lip in between his teeth, and Dom lost all thoughts. He took a deep breath through his nose and trailed his lips from Kele’s mouth down to his neck, where he wasted no time in sucking the skin there, not even worried about leaving a mark. Kele slid his hands up Dom’s back, one moving up to clutch Dom’s curly hair and the other sliding up his shirt.
“Do you have any idea how long I’ve wanted to do this?” Kele gasped just as Dom said, “God, I’ve waited so long for this”. As they finished their respective sentences, they both stared at each other. After a beat of silence, they both burst into muted laughter.
“I can’t believe--” Dom spoke through a wide smile, “we’ve been friends for a year, an entire year! Why did this take so long?” He smacked Kele’s pec playfully.
“Either we’re both stupid or we’re both stupid,” Kele mumbled, his hand coming to rest on the side of Dom’s neck. Dom laughed again and leaned up to kiss Kele.
