The Plan

Remus

Remus was already sitting in the carriage waiting for his friends, after 6 years the order in which each of his fellow marauders would pile in had not changed, Peter would scurry in, mumbling about something he thought he forgot, then James would walk in and sit down with an easy smile, and Sirius would saunter in as the train was leaving, not a care in the world that he nearly missed it. Even though he arrived at the station the same time as James, now that they lived together, his tardiness stuck. Remus has a sneaky suspicion that Sirius spent the extra time taking in the wonders of the muggle part of Kings Cross.

Today was no different, Pete opened the door and immediately started fussing over his trunk, looking for his wand or something other. “Wormy, you’ve got to be more organised, we’ve got NEWTS this year.” Remus told him, with a small smile on his face, some things never changed. Peter just flipped him off, still searching around.

A few minutes later, James walked in, a wide grin on his face, “Morning lads! Ready for another excellent year!”, he sat next to Peter, still grinning like a maniac. “This year is the year, lads. Lily Evans will finally say yes to me this year.” Remus and Peter both groaned.

Since first year when Lily burst into our carriage, looking for her friends, James has been smitten with her. He's made it his life goal to go out with Lily. The only issue with that is the fact that Lily hates James more than anyone else in the world. James blames it on Severus Snape, a slimy greaseball who’s had it out for us since the first time James even spoke to him. Snape's hatred definitely grew after The Prank. Even though James was the one to save him, no doubt he twisted the story to Evans, making her hate him even more.

“Prongs, mate, it's been six years, why haven’t you given up yet?” Peter asked.

“Pete, I've only just begun wearing her down! She doesn’t even gag when she sees me anymore!”

Remus just rolled his eyes and sat deeper in his seat, listening to his friends bicker back and forth.

The train whistle sounded, Sirius still hadn’t made his way to the carriage yet, as per usual. There was a distant chattering and the train began to roll away from the station. Remus was looking out at the parents and siblings, waving at their loved ones, when he heard the carriage door open for the third time. Sirius strode in casually, making eye contact with Remus and claiming the seat next to him. The small carriage didn’t allow for much space, especially as they’ve grown into tall lanky teenagers, so their knees were bumping. Remus tried his hardest to keep a straight face and stop the blood rushing to his cheeks. They’d started dating at the end of last year, but they hadn’t told their friends yet, and Sirius was clearly trying to torture Remus.

‘Padfoot! You're just in time!” James exclaimed, throwing his hands around.

“In time for what?” Sirius asked, Remus was wondering the same thing.

“For me to tell you all my plans to woo Evans this year obviously. It’s going to happen, I know it. Especially because we’re Head Boy and Girl together!”

Peter, Remus and Sirius groaned in perfect sync.

After the sorting ceremony concluded they ate the marvellous feast laid out, the boys split up. James had to lead the first year boys up, part of his head boy duties. He tried to get Lily to do it together, but she dragged the girls up without another glance in his direction. Peter went with James, wanting to postpone unpacking as much as possible.

Left alone, Remus and Sirius had nothing else to do but go up to their dorm and start unpacking. They walked together, a fair distance away so as to not look suspicious, but close enough to occasionally brush their arms together.

Once they reached the privacy of the dorm room, they looked at each other sheepishly.

“So, how was your summer?” Remus asked, rubbing his head.

“Effie’s cooking was amazing as always.” Sirius replied.

Remus just nodded his head.

“Oh just come here” Sirius blurted out, striding across the room to take Remus’s head in his hands before crashing their lips together.

Remus immediately melted into the kiss, it was fierce and powerful, after the entire summer separated. With Remus in Cardiff and Sirius in London, it was so difficult to schedule a place to meet, without their friends raising eyebrows, so they just opted for letters.

Pulling back ever so slightly, Remus sighed “Missed you.”

“Yeah, I’m pretty missable.”

That earned him a hard punch in the arm.

Laughing, Sirius sat down on the bed, gesturing for Remus to join him.

“Look, we’ve got to talk.” he said

Remus’s smile dropped. “You’re not breaking up with me.”

“What!? Merlin no! We need to talk about James.”

Once his heart rate returned to normal, Remus replied, “Oh thank god. Don’t scare me like that again you wanker. What about James?”

“This Lily situation is getting out of hand.”

“Absolutely. But what can we do about that?”

“Moony, I’m so, so glad you asked.’ Sirius declared, “We, you and me, are going to devise a plan.”

A slow smile grew on Remus’s face, he truly had missed Sirius. “What kind of plan?” he asked devilishly.

“A plan to get Lily and James together.”

“Um, Pads, there's one gigantic problem with that.”

“What?”

“Lily despises James. I’ve seen her completely abandon her breakfast purely because James entered the Great Hall.”

“That, my dear Remus, is exactly why we are going to make her like him.”

“How.”

“The powerful persuasion of Sirius Black of course!” he exclaimed, throwing his arms out.

“Of course.’ Remus drawled. “Look Sirius, if there's one person Lily hates almost as much as James, it’s you. That’s not going to work.”

“Yes, Lily may hate me. But her friends certainly don’t. I’ve already discussed it with Marlene, Mary and Dorcas and they are so on board. They’re also sick of Lily ranting about James.”

‘You know, sometimes I wonder why you weren’t placed in Slytherin. You're mighty ambitious.”

“You take that back.”

Remus stayed silent.

“Moony! Take it back!”

“Come on” Remus said, completely ignoring Sirius’s whining and walking towards the bathroom. “I think we’ve got some time before James and Peter get back.”
