Chapter 15
Vin's 10th birthday party
Ivy POV
The last guest had arrived and the party was just about to get started. Vin was wearing all black and purple like she has been for the last year and she is talking to her friend Barbara. They have been taking well to each other. It's a little awkward considering her father is the police commissioner but he has seen we haven't done anything bad since we have had Vin.
Diana has been coming into the picture lately because Vin had to go with Canary to the watchtower one day and had Diana watch her. Since then they have been pretty inseparable. She has been teaching Vin to fight and some good life lessons so we don't mind.
As the party gets into full swing Vin opens presents, eats cake, and gets close to throwing up after trying to have an eating contest with Harley. After the drama people begin to leave and we are left with just Vin, Barbara, Selina, Diana, and Canary.
Vin and Barbara are playing in Vin's room and all of us adults are in the kitchen talking. Diana still seems to be a bit awkward around us but it's getting better. We all talk about how Vin is growing up nicely and about how well Vin is doing in her new school and so on. Then everything seemed too quiet from Vin's room.
I get up to go investigate the lack of sound. When I look into the room I see Vin and Barbara laying together watching a movie on Vin's bed. I smile and sneak away
"Why so smiley?" Selina asks looking over at me from her conversation as I sit back down at the table.
"Nothing." I say still smiling and they return to their previous conversations.
We were letting Vin have Barbara sleep over seeing she was Vin's only friend. We decided it was time to enroll Vin in school. We found a good private school and she met Barbara. We don't mind it though. Since we decided it was time to enroll Vin in school she hadn't had many friends until Barbara. We then decided that a private school would be the best option and as soon as we had told everyone someone funded her tuition for her until her senior year of high school.
By around 9 everyone had gone home and we went to tell Vin it was time for bed. When Harley and I arrived at her door, Harley stuck her head in the door and held in a squeal that she usual does when she sees something cute. I look in and see Vin laying asleep in Barbara's arms and cuddling into her. I turn off the light and shut the door quietly behind us.
Harley and I go in the living room and sit down on the couch. I smile and kiss her sweetly. "It's been 5 years Harl."
"I can't believe it has been that long. It seems like just yesterday that we brought her home and started having a better life."
I kiss her again and put my arms around her. "We did good."
We lay like this until we both fall asleep and cuddle together.
The next morning...
Vin POV
When Barb and me get up we decide to go out to the kitchen to get breakfast. I see my parents asleep on the couch and try to sneak past them quietly without waking them up. I motion to Barb to be quick and quiet. When we get into the kitchen I climb up onto the counter and begin rifling through the cupboards looking for something to eat. I hear movement coming towards the kitchen and I shut the cupboards and jump down from the counter. My mom walks into the kitchen with messy hair and the same clothes as she was wearing the day before.
"Morning, you guys hungry?" She says barely understandable through her yawn.
We nod and she starts pulling out all of the ingredients for pancakes. Barb and me head back into my room and I turn on my Xbox. "Wanna watch a movie?"
"Uh yeah sure. How about we watch Titanic?" Barb smiles and lays down on the bed.
"Okay." I smile and put it on.
We watch the movie until Mom calls us out into the dining room for breakfast. Barb and me make our way to the kitchen and sit next to each other at the table.
"How's ya dad?" Ma asks smiling at Barb as she eats her food.
Barb smiles. "He's alright, just real stressed by the job."
The conversation continues like this until breakfast is over. Barb and me head back to my room until her dad shows up to get her. When she leaves I lay on my bed and smile. She is the best friend I've ever had.
