Chapter 9

Kate sat alone in the courtyard, taking in the power of nature when she heard a familiar sound,  that caused her body to instantly tense. Her mother , Ms Marsh was traversing the school, and that meant trouble for the Kate of this world. She stood up and scanned the horizon, watching her visage fleeing  through the crowd, with a look of terror on her face. Her time with  the Price family might have changed some things for her, but it didn’t change her ability to emphasize with  people, especially someone who was essentially her

Kate spotted Ms.Marsh on the stairwell of the girls dormitory, trying to find her doppleganger, her  eyes full of anger.  Her mother had never comes to Blackwell for her, but she knew that she would still be displeased over  the video. Kate put on her best smile and made her way to her ex-mom

“Hello Mam” Kate smiled “Can I help you with something” ?

Ms. Marsh looked her over for a moment skeptically, like every person she met, she had to make judge just how “Christian”  she appeared to her , and due to her new life, she was, gaining a pleasant smile. She remembered the last t ime she had this kind of relationship, before the video when she was still her perfect little angel.  Deep down in her heart, she wanted to yell in her face, demanding to know why her own mother couldn’t at least give her the benefit of the doubt when the video emerged. How she could turn her back on her during the hardest time in her life….but she couldn’t. She wasn’t Kate Marsh right now, she was Chloe Elizabeth Price, and she had another Kate to save

“I was looking for my daughter, Kate Marsh. I need to get her home”

Kate makes a show of thinking “I think I saw her going to the main building for lunch”, gaining a frown from Ms Marsh as made her way to the cafeteria.Once she got out of sight ,Kate took a deep breath as she tried to soothe herself. She knew what kinds of soul crushing things her mother  would do to the other Kate if she found her, and she couldn’t bare the idea of leaving her to that fate. Kate took out her cell phone and called her Joyce as she made her way towards the direction she saw Kate fleeing.

………

Victoria hid on top of the girls dorm, shaking like a leaf and feeling terrible for choosing this place at the first sign of inconvenience. Everything she was going through was made by her design, and the least she could do was deal with it without complaint. She leaned forward, lacing her fingers behind her head thinking “I was just starting to make things right….” as  a sense of despair overcame her

“Kate ? “

Victoria looked up to see Chloe Price come onto the roof with her, looking vastly different than she should be. She stood up, wiping her eyes “Hello Chloe, what brings you here ?”

“I saw your Mom”

‘Victoria immediately tensed, preparing for the worst, the real Chloe might have had the spine to bend the rules, but this Chloe seemed to really crave the  rigid structure of authority

“Don’t worry, I sent her in the wrong direction” she said sweetly, causing Victoria’s jaw to drop. She had never been a religious girl by any means, the actions she had taken so far as Kate being an attempt to not mess things up further for her, but as she looked at the taller girl before her, she could only see an angel

“Oh Chloe” Victoria said wiping her eyes “Thank you so much, I didn’t think my Mom would have seen what  happened, since Victoria took the video down” Victoria’s eyes noticing a slight hint of surprise coming from Chloe at the mention of the video being taken down

Chloe extended her hand ‘Don’t worry Kate, I’ve got you”  her eyes seeming to twinkle with a kindness that made Victoria’s  heart skip a beat as she almost instinctivly extended her hand as all sorts of thoughts raced through her head

“Apart from…..possibly having a  crush on Chloe…Chloe DID seem to know something she shouldn’t. Victoria had  assumed that she was here all alone, in a universe alone with clones of family and friends who were used to everything here.
