Saving someone before the entrance exam
“Alright girls, let’s make this quick. You two have an exam to get to.” As soon as the monster leapt away with Chitose in its grasp, Cathleen turned to her daughters and cracked her knuckles.
“First day in Japan, and already dealing with a creepy villain.” Melissa said as she tried to power up One For All. She had trained with it a bit, but the idea was to learn most of it from her grandpa at UA.
“Let’s save the annoying lady!” Po cheered as she stomped her hooves against the pavement.
The Nomu had barely landed on a rooftop before Cathleen vanished. With a sonic boom, she crossed the distance in an instant, appearing right above the monster.
“Cathleen Yagi’s strength is multiplied tenfold!” Cathleen used her quirk on herself before hitting the villain on the brain. The force brought the nomu down and blew Chitose out of his arms, straight into Cathleen’s. “Don’t worry, miss. You’re safe.”
“…My my, do you sweep all your damsels in distress off their feet like this?” Chitose smirked, causing Cathleen to blush.
“M-Melissa, Po, finish it off but be careful!” The flustered mother ordered, which her kids followed up. Po immediately jumped onto her horns before firing a barrage of them down onto the Nomu, before restraining it by holding the Nomu high in the air.
“Great job….show-off.” Melissa said with a smirk, causing Po to pout. “Come on, sis. I’m joking. You even finished the fight before I could do anything.”
“Girls, no arguing. We’re a team here. Team Yagi.” Cathleen scolded as she put down Chitose. “Here you go, miss.”
“Why thank you, Star. I hope a beauty like yourself could offer me an interview.” The blue woman said with a smile, hoping to get something out of it. But instead, Cathleen grabbed her daughters and jumped away flustered. “*sigh* I will get that interview.”
Meanwhile on a far away roof, the boy with his gas mask watched Nomu flail in the air. “Those things look familiar….Waf, mind getting our friend?” But as he looked beside himself, he noticed he was missing his wolfhound. “*sigh* This will just be a wonderful conversation with gramps later today.”
“Alright everyone, follow my orders and we’ll be heroes in no time.” Izuku said enthusiastically, only to be met by unimpressed faces, belonging to his quirk.
Izuku’s quirk wasn’t like his mom, nor his absent dad’s. No, his quirk was Pikmin. Little humanoid plant creatures with the strength of five Izuku’s would follow his orders to a T after he made them by pulling out a hair. His hair would immediately grow back, and the plucked hair would go from green to red, blue or yellow, usually in that order, before becoming the creature. Red’s had noses, blue’s mouths and yellow ears (though they could clearly all eat, drink, smell and hear).
But at this point, none of them might as well have no clear ears. Because since a small year ago, the Pikmin had stopped listening. They listened to Inko, but not their own leader.
But a disobeying army wasn’t stopping Izuku from becoming a hero.
The drive to UA was an awkward one for Shoko Todoroki. Not because her dad was driving, but because of how he looked at her.
“Do you think you’re ready?” He asked with an unsure tone. Shoko honestly didn’t remember him being anything else, but she had heard from her mom that her dad used to be more harsh, rough, temperamental. But then Toya happened. Shoko still didn’t know why he burned her alive when she was not even one, but he was gone now and Shoko was in a living hell, only made manageable thanks to her parents and siblings’ support. But while Enji was nice, he was also very protective of his youngest. Almost to a condescending degree.
“I’ll be fine, dad.” Shoko said through her voice box. Her throat has started to heal over time, and soon she’ll be able to talk normally again.
“Alright then, just don’t underestimate this, or overexert yourself.”
“*sigh* Yes dad.”
“Good…good luck, Shoko.” Briefly, Enji smiled at his daughter, who smiled back at him, all the while trying to not show how painful that smile was for her heavily scarred face. Fortunately, Enji didn’t notice it, or just didn’t comment on it. Because he got out of the car, and grabbed the wheelchair from the trunk.
As Enji let out one last ‘SHOKO’, Shoko rolled to the entrance of UA.
Being paralyzed from the waist down and having parts of her body heavily scarred wasn’t stopping Shoko Todoroki from becoming a heroine.
Her parents might not have liked it at first, but Mina actually liked her new hair.
It had been a couple months ago when she and Eijiro went on their first date, and they were attacked by a villain. A massive brown cloaked man demanded to fight some D list hero, and Eijiro wanted to be manly and protect her. No longer would ‘Riot’ be too hesitant or scared….If not for Hardening, Kirishima would have been crushed to death.
Now fortunately, Eijiro will be fine. But he wasn’t going to make it in time for the entrance exam. So Mina put on her big girl pants, dyed her hair red to honor Eijiro’s idol Crimson Riot, and would start the hero journey for both of them.
The armored limo pulled up to near UA’s entrance.
As soon as the driver stepped out to open the door, Itsuka already existed to look around. “All clear, Princess.” She said, crossing her arms.
“Must you always be so dramatic, Itsuka? We are here as equals, not as nobility.” Momo sighed with a small smile as she stepped out with effortless grace. “And can you please call me Momo?”
“I have to stay professional, Mo.”
“Yet there is a reason why I chose you as my bodyguard here.” Momo said with a knowing smile, just as Kyoka and Yui left the limo as well.
“Your safety is just my top priority.” The ginger sighed.
“And mine is ensuring that Her Highness actually enjoys herself for once. Just like it’s Yui’s task to make sure her highness’s desires are met” Kyoka shot back with a smirk as Yui the maid nodded, not saying anything like usual. “We could let her breathe without acting like she’s going to get assassinated at any moment.”
“Thank you, Kyoka. Now let’s go.” Momo said, adjusting the hem of her skirt. “We’re going to be heroes, after all.”
As the quartet made their way inside, whispers filled the air.
“Wait… That’s Momo Yaoyorozu? The princess?”
“Whoa, she’s way taller in person…”
“I heard she could just buy her way into any hero school. Why’s she even here?”
Kyoka twitched her jacks, Itsuka cracked her knuckles, and Yui glared at the gossipers. Momo, however, didn’t even blink.
No title, no kingdom, and no amount of wealth was going to make her a hero. She had to earn it, and she was ready.
“Come here, grandkids!” Toshinori laughed as he hugged Melissa and Po. “You two look great!”
“Thanks grandpa!” The two cheered as Cathleen added a ‘You too’. After his fight with All For One, Toshinori wasn’t in that good of a state. But while he still didn’t look healthy, very skinny even, he looked well rested, his eyes weren’t sunken, and he even gained a bit of weight. “So…I might have unfortunate news.” The grandpa continued. “After my retirement, the hero commission forced UA to take on more students, doubling the amount. But very quickly, it was clear that quality is better than quantity.”
“So?” Cathleen, Melissa and Po asked in unison.
“…This year only twelve students will get into UA, instead of forty.” Toshinori sighed. “I might have ruined my granddaughters’ dreams.”
“What? It’s not your fault, grandpa.” Melissa immediately said, hugging her oldest family member. “Me and Po will just have to go Yagi plus Ultra!”
“Yeah! Yagi Plus Ultra!”
“*BARK* *WOOF* *AHOO*”
Clearly Po agreed with Melissa, as did the brown wolfhound that appeared behind them.
As the exam started, Mina shot forward, her acid-coated feet sizzling against the pavement as she practically skated through the battlefield. Robots were everywhere, and while she wasn’t the strongest or the fastest, she was definitely one of the most agile.
“Alright, Mina, time to shine! No hesitation, just keep moving and wreck some bots! Do it for Eiji.” Mina told herself as she ducked under a swinging metal arm, spun, and blasted acid onto it. “Boom, baby! Oh, I am feeling it today!”
She wasn’t going to let Eijiro down. Not after everything.
But before she could get too hyped up, a scream cut through the chaos. So the red headed pink girl, snapped her head toward the source. A giant three-pointer had a girl trapped in a corner. The problem? Mina couldn’t see her. Instead she was a floating gym uniform.
Without thinking, Mina ran forward. The three-pointer’s eye glowed as it locked onto its nearly invisible target. The second it raised its claw, Mina acted. “ACID SHOTGUN!” She threw both hands forward and sprayed a fan of sizzling acid across the robot’s torso. The metal hissed, melted, and just before it could crush the other girl, the machine’s whole upper half collapsed inward. “Nice save, right? Ten outta ten?” Mina laughed as she helped the still invisible but clearly shaking girl off the floor. “Hey, I’m Mina.”
“T-Thanks, I’m Toru.”
“Nice to meet you…Well good luck.” While she would love to talk to Toru more, they were in the middle of an exam.
Surely, Mina would be able to talk to Toru in class.
The moment the starting buzzer rang, Melissa bolted forward with One For All, only for a burst of energy to send her rocketing forward, but with no control. She barely managed to roll out of the way before face-planting onto the pavement.
“Gotta… work on that.” She muttered, shaking off the pain.
Meanwhile, Izuku was already trying to take control of his plant creatures. “Alright, everyone! We need to work together! Let’s move!” He ordered, yanking a strand of hair and creating another little red buddy….but instead of charging forward to attack a robot, his leafy minions turned their heads toward him with blank, unimpressed expressions. Then they started wandering off in different directions, some inspecting debris, others just sitting down, two even started playing rock paper scissors. “Oh, come on! Just one of you, listen to me!” Izuku pleaded, but his army remained uncooperative, like they had been for a while.
A massive three-pointer robot locked onto Melissa. She knew what she needed to do, but One For All wasn’t responding how she wanted. As the robot lunged, she clenched her fists and tried to throw a full-powered punch, only for her strength to misfire, making her stagger instead. The machine’s metal claw swiped toward her, and she braced herself, only to be yanked to safety. Looking up, Melissa saw Izuku, panting and wide-eyed. “Are you okay?” He asked.
“Yeah! Thanks-look out!” Another robot loomed behind him, and Melissa reacted on instinct. She forced One For All into her arm and swung as hard as she could. It broke the robot, but also her arm.
“That looked like it hurt.” Izuku winced.
“Yup,” Melissa groaned, shaking her arm. “Still working out the kinks.”
More robots started surrounding them. Izuku desperately yanked more hairs, creating more Pikmin. “Come on, guys! Just punch something! Anything!” He begged as his creatures stared at him. Then after a bit, one particularly ‘funny’ yellow threw a pebble at Izuku.
Izuku thought he just blinked for a second, but he had somehow flung that yellow at a robot, destroying it before the zero pointer arrived. Normally Melissa and Izuku would try to stop it. But down an arm and no army made it an easy decision to retreat.
In the end, Melissa, Po and Izuku all passed, alongside nine others. Melissa learned she still had a long way to go with One For All, Izuku’s Pikmin were in the ‘find out’ phase of fuck around and find out, and Po…found a dog.
“Welcome back, Lupo!” Yelled Katsuma and Mahoro in unison as the older boy returned to the orphanage.
“Thanks, you lambs want take out? I’m not really in the mood to cook.” Lupo sighed as he removed his gas mask. “Waf had to run off again. So can I trust you to look after the others, Mahoro?”
“Of course, big bro. I’m the most responsible here.” The ten year old proclaimed proudly.
“No, that’s Katsuma. But last time he was in charge, you pretty much bullied him into submission.” Lupo said dryly before going to another room. There, Eri was laying in bed. “Hey Eri, still not feeling great?”
“No…Can we go back to grandpa yet?” Eri whimpered as she laid under a thick blanket.
“We are at grandpa’s orphanage, Eri.”
“No, other grandpa.”
Their other grandpa, who after Lupo and Eri’s mom abandoned them, was against ‘uncle’ Kai’s treatment of Eri. A decision that cost the man his life.
“…Other grandpa can’t take care of us right now.” Lupo couldn’t tell his little sister about what happened to their gramps. She already blamed herself for killing their dad, knowing her grandpa died protecting her would shatter her heart.
“Oh…Can you watch over me?” The horned girl whimpered.
“Nightmares again?” Lupo asked as his little sister nodded. “Don’t worry, I’ll keep watch.” He told her…only for Katsuma to enter the room.
“Big bro Lupo, that fire guy moved again.”
“*sigh* Please tell him if he snaps his stitches again, I’ll start using stables without anesthesia.”
