Summary
Myojo’s concert orchestra ‘Kurogumi’ are dead set on entering nationals. Some members are too nervous to performed to a large crowd, trouble blows over the trumpet section, a family rivalry slides through the trombone section and things get jazzed up between the sax player and the cops, can the orchestra overcome all problems and win nationals? Hibike! Euphonium inspired au!

The New Conductor

Tokaku glared at a certain triangle player and her rival trombone player, Inukai Isuke and Hashiri Nio respectively, she could see they were talking about something, about Kaiba’s sudden leave maybe? Probably, that was sort of the current topic of discussion after Kaminaga Kouko; the self- proclaimed leader of the ensemble had arrived with the news at the start of the usual meeting. Tokaku had to admit, she was happy to his pasty ass out of the room and out of her life after dealing with him in two schools.

“Our new conductor was handpicked by the chairwoman herself,” Tokaku heard Nio say; “I heard he’s a real master with a wand.” Yeah, that what was said about Kaiba too, look how that turned out, Kurogumi, the Myojo ensemble, ended up losing out on national preliminaries.

Tokaku looked over to the members that made up the flutes, Hanabusa Sumireko and Ichinose Haru, Sumireko was cleaning her flute with Haru watching with sparkles in her eyes.

“Haru’s excited to meet the new conductor! Are you Hanabusa-san?” Haru asked her fellow flute player.

A simple nod came from the young flute prodigy, “I wouldn’t say I am excited, that’s quite unladylike; however I do hope that this Mizorogi-sensei is more competent than our previous conductor.”

Yeah, anyone would be better than Kaiba.

Tokaku heard footsteps…either the bass section had a shy runner, or maybe…

“Takechi! Give me back my mouthpiece!” came the angered voice of bass section leader Kenmochi Shiena.

Takechi Otoya, the Sax player was running around the music room, waving Shiena’s mouth piece around while Shiena chased her down.

“Not until you say the magic word!”

Not this crap again, Tokaku mentally facepalmed. Otoya had a bad habit of stealing Shiena’s Euphonium parts to make her say she was in love with her.

“No! Give it back! My section is trying to practice!” Shiena shouted, she really gets angry over her section’s lack of practice when Otoya was the reason, whether it was bullying the little Tuba player or trying to just get on her nerves.

“Don’t wanna!” Otoya returned.

Otoya started to run for the door, Shiena followed pursuit, then Kaminaga walked in.

“Takechi. Kenmochi…” Tokaku noticed a shine on Kouko’s glasses, “What did I say about these stupid chases?”

“Don’t chase each other in the music room,” the two in question said in unison, there was more shame in Shiena’s voice than Otoya’s, who seemingly didn’t care about Kouko’s chance of scolding her.

“Exactly, it’s messing around like this that led to Kaiba-sensei’s departure.”

Yeah, sure, it’s Otoya’s fault that he was the worst conductor.

“Your antics aside,” Kouko quickly changed subjects, “Our new conductor has arrived. Mizorogi-sensei.”

Behind Kouko was the new conductor, he smiled more than Kaiba and looked a lot nicer than Kaiba.

“I-is this all of you?” was the first thing he asked.

“Not everyone, the Bass section is located in the room next door, one percussionist is dealing with a family matter and the Trumpet section is on the rooftop,” Kouko replied with a truthful explanation, “I can call them back into this room if you need to see them.”

Mizorogi nodded, “I’d love to see the entire ensemble if possible Kaminaga-san.”

“Okay,” Kouko looked back to Shiena, “Kenmochi, can you call in the rest of your section?”

“Yeah.”

“Ichinose!” Kouko called.

Haru jumped at the sound of her name, “Y-yeah?”

“Go to the rooftop to fetch Namatame and Kirigaya,” came the leader’s order.

“Okay!”

A quick turn and Kouko was looking over at Nio and Isuke, “Inukai, could you tell Sagae what happens in this meeting?”

“Don’t count on it~”

“Haha! Isuke-san, that’s mean!” Nio remarked as she sported her shark like grin.

“Can you idiots understand sarcasm~?”

Typical Inukai Isuke. Tokaku could hear Kouko sigh.
