Chapter 13

Red eyes glared out at the sun.  The garden outside the office windows glittered with dew like one of the Pharaoh’s treasure vaults.  A stunning display of beauty that turned the Vampire King’s stomach at the moment.

The Pharaoh would have preferred rain and the gloom that came with it.  What with the way the last two days had gone.  One fourth of the vampiric population of Venezuela was dead or missing, and over two billion dollars’ worth of family relics and historic artifacts had been seized by government agencies in three different countries.

It was a nightmare.  And the Pharaoh had no idea where to start looking for the culprit that had caused this sudden onslaught of Anti-Vampire sentiment.

To make matters worse the Pharaoh knew everything would have been easier to handle if his head general would answer the damn phone!  They needed to show a united front to the rest of the world.  That couldn’t be done if Akefia was missing in action.

Snarling silently the Pharaoh returned his focus to the reports before him.  Had he been in Khemet Akefia’s disappearance wouldn’t have been an issue.  After all, Akefia was only one of a number of generals that served the Pharaoh.  Stuck in Japan as he was however, Akefia was the only who could physically access the Pharaoh, and the Pharaoh didn’t trust his enemies to not have spies watching Khemet’s every move.

Red eyes narrowed as the Pharaoh had a staring match with the report on top of the rather large pile.  He needed Akefia by his side for this.  The other pureblood was the only one alive that could help the Pharaoh sort out the mess that was his head.

A traitorous thought threaded its way through the Pharaoh’s head, reminding him that there were others here in Domino that could help him just as well as Akefia. More so even, seeing as the actions being taken by the humans threatened his dear cousin’s plans. Even now, the Pharaoh knew Seto would do anything for his fledglings.

Possibly even let the Pharaoh return him to the vampire he was meant to be…

The Pharaoh dismissed that thought. He clicked his tongue and shifted his gaze to the papers before him. He would request a meeting with his cousin’s reincarnation if Akefia did not appear in a day’s time. Until then he would hope for the best.

Much like his cousin, Seto too glared out at the views from his office window. He had just gotten the reports about his holdings in the currently anti-vampire countries.

More than half of his staff was missing. Presumably dead, Seto thought with a grimace. Three of his buildings had been burned to the ground. He’d already dispatched his lawyer’s on the unsuspecting culprits. Yes, he did give a damn that the vampire’s under his command had their homes and workplace destroyed! They were the best in their fields. Seto would be a fool to lose their knowledge and skill simply because of their species.

Yet, most unsettling of all, someone had managed to hack their way through his security and made off with the access codes to his most secret of projects. A project that had just completed all its test. In three days’ time the project would come to fruition.

Seto just had to keep the spies out for three more days. Then, once the project had been finished Seto could dismantle his work. Keep the information out of the hands that pawed at it. Hand’s, Seto had a feeling, were behind the rise in anti-vampire demonstrations.

If the project worked as everything showed it would. Then, then Seto knew his family would come out unscathed. There would be blood, and death, and hardship all around. However, there would be power no political party the world over could hope to eclipse.

Humans wanted to start up the Millennium War again. Let them have it, Seto thought coldly. In three days’ time Domino and her mixed group of citizens would be ready to survive and thrive in the chaos.

With the Hikari’s help Seto would take Japan by storm. Make it a safe haven for those who wanted a reprieve from the fighting.

All it would take was three days.

Three days.

Seto sighed. He had spies to weed from the ranks. Countries to strip of their vampiric citizens. Lesser mortals to grind under his heel for daring to harm what was his.

For now thought, Seto needed to call Yugi and Ryou. They needed to be informed about the projects test results.

“Three days,” Seto said to the city scape before them.

Then everything would change.
