Chapter 27

There is no feeling in the world better than having the person that you love reciprocate that love 100%.

Tobin was on cloud 9.  A few months ago, if you had asked Tobin who she would eventually marry, she would have said no one.  Following her previous heartbreak, she was sure she would die alone, leaving her fortune to her ten cats.

Alex came in like a flash of lightning and changed all of that.  They were perfect for each other, and now, they were about to get married .. for real this time.

Ironically enough, Tobin too was planning to propose that same day - only Alex beat her to it.  A fact that she let Alex in on as they drove home.

**

“How long have you had that ring in your desk?” Tobin asks, eyes focused on the road ahead.

“I’d say for about a month.” Alex starts “I was going to do a big romantic gesture, but it just felt right you know?” She finishes, grabbing Tobin’s free hand and lacing it with her own.

Tobin loved how affectionate Alex was.  She appreciated how they used physical touch in the absence of words to communicate their love for one another.  She couldn’t wait to spend the rest of her life learning everything she could about Alex’s love language.

“Everything feels right with you, love” Tobin says, taking her eyes off of the road for a moment to look at her fiance.

In any other setting, when brown met blue, it was ugly.  Absolutely two colors that should not mix. But when it came to hazel of Tobin’s eyes meeting Alex’s.  It was the most beautiful thing in the world. Tobin could stare at those eyes all day.

Alex smiles back, and that smile says everything Tobin needs to know about how Alex feels about her.

“I have to let her know now” Tobin thinks to herself.  She was literally the worst at keeping secrets or surprises, so she devises a plan.

“You know, we never got that lunch … Do you want McDonald’s?” Tobin smiles, because she already knows what Alex is about to say.

“Really? I just proposed to you, with a rock the size as the moon and you want to celebrate with McDonalds?” Alex does her best to try and sound offended but she knows she’s failed because Tobin is already laughing and rerouting their destination to the nearest Mcdonald’s.

“Sorry, no take backs” Tobin smiles, proudly brandishing her diamond, and Alex’s can’t help but stretch into a smile of their own .

**

They pull into the drive thru and to Tobin’s luck, the line is long as hell.

The evening light offers a lovely backdrop for what’s about to happen Tobin thinks.  The hues of orange and pink that paint the sky have always been a source of comfort. If she could paint a picture of the perfect moment, it would be right now.  Surrounded by the sunset, with the love of her life by her side.

She pulls out her phone to take a picture - and freeze this moment in time.

“Smile” She says to Alex as she moves her body to get into the selfie as well.  Alex complies, placing a kiss on Tobin’s cheek at the last moment.

“This is perfect” Tobin sighs as she looks at the photo, “You’re perfect.” She says to Alex, moving to give her a kiss to communicate what her words could not.

“I am” She agrees once Tobin pulls away, causing Tobin to roll her eyes.

Tobin puts on her “songs that make me think about Alex playlist” (It’s Tobin’s favorite one) and the song that comes on first makes both of them giggle.

**

“We just got married!” Tobin yells at the bartender.  Showing off the certificate they obtained from the chapel. She points back and forth between her and Alex, so the bartender could know exactly who she’s referencing.

“Woah, no way! Congratulations!” He yells back. Both Tobin and Alex are too drunk to notice the expression on the bartender’s face that reads “Yeah, no way their going to remember that in the morning” “All of your drinks tonight are on the house.” He offers, even though he could see that both women were sufficiently intoxicated.

“You’re the best” Alex yells over the music.

The bar was just about empty, it was getting close to closing time and it was a weeknight.  The atmosphere was perfect for the newlyweds to have a moment to themselves.

“Hey Paul!” The bartender yells across the room, “these two ladies just got hitched. Why don’t we give them the first dance they deserve!”

The DJ nods his head in recognition, switching the loud club music for something a bit more mellow.

“Alright ladies, this one is titled ‘And if my heart should somehow stop’ By James Vincent McMorrow. Please remember me when you’re all sobered up”

Tobin and Alex move towards the center of the dancefloor, hand in hand. Foreheads joined together.  The moment was oddly intimate. The dim lights of the bar encased the couple as all eyes in the room focused on them, but the couple were only focused on each other.

“I never imagined my ‘wedding night’ would be like this” Tobin says, thinking out loud.  “I’m not complaining though. Right now, I’m slow dancing with the most beautiful woman in the world - “ Tobin pauses to hiccup. “Everything is right in my world.” She finishes, placing a kiss against Alex’s nose.

Alex smiles at the gesture. Her body reacts in a way it hasn’t to anyone in a long time. Drunk Alex thinks this could be the beginning of something special, while sober Alex would watch and scoff in disdain.

She pulls Tobin closer, marveling at the way their bodies fit together, almost like God forged them from the same piece of clay.

“I’m so drunk” Tobin slurs, warm breath tickling the tip of Alex’s nose.

“I am too, but this feels right.” “You feel right” Alex murmurs as her eyes close and she takes in Tobin’s presence.  It’s comforting to her, to have another person this close, sharing such a special moment.

“Yeah it does.” Tobin agrees.  “Do you think we’ll regret this when we’re sober?” She chuckles, raising Alex’s arm above her head to spin her around.

“Probably. I won’t like you half as much in the morning.” She jokes.  It’s a joke that makes Tobin sad, and Alex sees this and wants to fix it.  For the first time ever, she wants to make Tobin Heath happy.

“But I think that’s definitely going to change.” She says, pulling their foreheads apart so she can look into Tobin’s eyes.

They hold gazes for a moment, both daring the other to do the thing they both want most right now.  Alex breaks first, snaking her hand behind Tobin’s neck to pull her closer. Tobin’s breath hitches and her eyes close in anticipation.  When their lips finally meet, its like all the stars have aligned perfectly and everything is right in the universe. Her body is buzzing with energy - which she transfers right to the kiss, much to Alex’s approval.

Alex hasn’t been kissed like this in a while.  Tobin is kissing her like she might never get to kiss her again - which if Alex was being logical, was not a far fetched conclusion.  The desire present in the kiss was not lost on Alex, and she happily returned Tobin’s sentiments.

They finally pull away for air, chests heaving and gazes clouded with want.

“I could get used to doing that.” Tobin sighs.  Part of her knows that will be the first and last time she gets to kiss Alex Morgan, while the other part of her is holding out hope.

You never really know what the future could hold.

**

“The first time we kissed, this song was playing.” Alex says, eyes distant as if she is remembering the moment.

“That was the best fucking kiss of my life.” Tobin groans.

“Definitely” Alex agrees, kissing the back of Tobin’s hand as they both hum along to the song.

“Can you reach in the glove compartment and pull out my charger?” Tobin asks, as she follows behind the line of cars in front of her.  There was no time like the present, Tobin decided. She would definitely explode if she had to wait a moment longer.

Alex opens the glove compartment, and to her surprise, a little velvet box falls out.

“You did not” Alex says, shocked.

“I did” Tobin smiles, enjoying the look on Alex’s face.

“No way!” Alex says a little louder this time.

“Yes way!” Tobin says, equally as loud.  Her face is stretched into the biggest grin, and the sides of her eyes crinkle in a way that tells Alex just how excited she is for this to be happening.

“Babe, we’re so gay. I can’t believe we had the same idea!” Alex laughs in between tears.

“Yes we are.” Tobin says, getting teary eyes as well.  “Well, are you going to open it or are you just going to sit in disbelief.”

Alex opens the box and a lovely princess cut ring stares back at her. Not to mention, it was really fucking huge.

“Babe.” Alex says, “You really didn’t have to go all out like this”

“Alex, I’ve been saving money to buy a pretty girl a ring ever since I was ten years old - no joke.

That being said … Alex P Morgan, will you marry me?”  Tobin is smiling at Alex like she already knows the answer. (Which she does)

Alex pretends to think about it for a moment before saying yes. “Of course” She says, pulling Tobin in for a celebratory kiss.  “but seriously baby, this ring must have costed a fortune”

“Let me spoil you like I want to please.” Tobin asks, tilting her head to the side, and batting her eyelashes so Alex can know not to argue.

“Okay” Alex resigns, she was never going to win that argument.  Tobin’s name is written all over the biggest soft spot on her body.  “Will you at least let me buy the McDonald’s?”

“Of course. I believe in equality.” Alex just shakes her head.  This is really who I’m going to spend the rest of my life with huh? She thinks to herself and honestly … She wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I was going to do it at lunch, but, you had other plans” Tobin smirks. “And I’m not complaining, your version of lunch was a lot more entertaining than the day I had planned.”

“If you thought that was entertaining.” Alex says, voice lowering like it does when she has something naughty to say. “Wait until we get home. I bought something the other day that I think you’re really going to like … and I’m not talking about lingerie”

Tobin shudders, feeling Alex’s words go straight to her underwear.  She vaguely remembers Alex asking her how she felt about toys in the bedroom after one of her many Alex induced orgasms.  And of course Tobin said yes. She would let Alex Morgan do anything to her.

“Fuck” Tobin whispers under her breath, already worked up.  She’s so distracted fantasizing about Alex’s surprise that she doesn’t even notice that the line of cars in front of them had disappeared and they were next in line.

**

Driving away from McDonald’s, there was only one thing on Alex’s mind.

**

“I can’t fucking believe you just proposed to me in the McDonald’s parking lot”

“Is there anything about our relationship that has ever been conventional?” Tobin replies.

“I can’t wait to tell Kelley about this.”
