Enid walked up to the main entrance with Wednesday, pushing the door open and looking around quietly, knowing that there was most likely going to be someone around, infected or not. The blonde looked at the smaller girl.
-Do you have a gun on you?, asked Enid.
Wednesday just nodded before walking towards a door. Enid frowned but followed her without questions. The door had a sign on it. ‘Staff only’. Wednesday tried to open the door but it wouldn’t budge. Enid walked into the store only to come back with a sledgehammer. She hit the lock, breaking the door knob and lock instantly. Wednesday gave her a weird judgmental look before stepping inside. Enid quickly understood what Wednesday had in mind when she saw the number of monitors on the wall. The security cameras. Wednesday looked around, moving the cameras to different angles to see if she could spot anything or anyone. She counted 3 dead body and one trail of blood that lead to the bathrooms.
-That’s doable., nodded Enid.
-Let’s move., replied older girl as she walked out again.
She walked up to the shopping carts, grabbing one for herself but Enid stopped her. Wednesday frowned, looking up at her and questioning why the blonde had her hand on her cart.
-You’re grabbing the wheelbarrow. You won’t need a cart. Here’s your list. Most of it is in the gardening area. But first, you’re coming with me. I need a hand for the ladder, the generator and some wood., said the blonde calmly.
-Fine., replied Wednesday, letting go of the cart.
Enid grabbed the cart and pushed it towards the camping aisle. She picked up a generator, motioning for Wednesday to give her a hand. The smaller girl sighed and pushed the cart closer to Enid and helped her put it inside the cart. They then looked for a medium sized ladder, quickly finding one and laying it on the cart. They were on their way to the wood when something caught Enid’s eye. Cement. She stopped.
-We could use that., said the blonde.
-For what?, frowned Wednesday.
-Repairing cracks and stuff. Look, I don’t wanna come back here every week. Let’s grab things that could help us improve your place and repair it if needed., replied Enid with a sigh, already walking up to the bags.
Wednesday once again rolled her eyes at the blonde but followed her nonetheless. Enid started placing bag after bag in the cart, barely struggling which Wednesday found impressive but she would never admit it. She just held the cart still and watched Enid as she did all the work. She definitely wasn’t admire how her arms would flex every time she picked up a bag, the muscles on her arms and shoulders slightly sweaty. No. Never.
-Alright. We could also use sand. In case of floods and stuff. We do live near a river., shrugged Enid.
-I suppose that would be helpful., nodded the smaller girl, following Enid to the bags of sand.
Wednesday then walked away, confusing Enid.
-Where are you going?, questioned the younger girl.
-Getting a second cart., replied Wednesday without looking back.
Enid nodded and decided to wait for the new cart since the other one was filled with cement bags, the generator and the ladder on top, hanging on for dear life. After a moment, Wednesday came back with the second cart. Enid got back to work, picking up the bags of sand and placing them into the cart one after the other.
-Six should be enough, right?, asked the blonde.
-More than enough., replied the smaller girl, still watching her.
Enid nodded and sighed, looking at the two carts.
-Okay, how about you take the full cart back to the entrance? I’ll go grab the wood and then get to the entrance to put everything on the truck. You can take this list and go to the gardening area., suggested the blonde.
-Mhm., nodded Wednesday, not uttering another word.
She grabbed the cart and start pushing the cart back towards the main entrance with a little struggle. Meanwhile, Enid grabbed the cart with sand and headed towards the area where employees would usually cut wood for costumers. She started placing wooden planks and boards on top of the cart before fastening it with a ratchet strap, making sure that she could move the cart without dropping any wood or hurting herself. Enid then silently made her way to the main entrance. Once by the now two carts, she pushed both outside and started loading the back of their truck with everything that they had gotten so far.
Meanwhile, Wednesday was wandering around the gardening area with the wheelbarrow, throwing in the things she found useful and that were written on the list. First came the hose, needing a new one for the greenhouse. Then she started getting everything double; two axes, two saws, two billhooks, two shears (a big one and a smaller one), two rakes and two pitchforks. She then grabbed numerous seeds for different fruits and vegetables along with some flowers that could help the cultivation grow. Obviously, she threw in a set of different types of knives. The list then ended. She started heading back to the main entrance but noticed the safety gear aisle.
The idiotic group that she was stuck with definitely needed things such as helmets, gloves, masks and glasses, so she threw in a couple of each into the wheelbarrow. The items were slowly piling up. She came across batteries, grabbing a bunch of different types and of course more flashlights cause there are never enough flashlights.
After Enid was done loading everything they had gotten from the two carts, she walked back inside and started gathering things remaining from her list. First she headed towards the metal aisle. She grabbed a few wires and chains along with some carabiners. She added a water tank, more specifically a plastic barrel and grabbed two tarps as well, having an idea. She also threw in a chainsaw, pliers, a fire distinguisher, a few lightbulbs and hunting cameras. She finally found a compressor and a safe, being done with her list.
She walked back to the main entrance, already seeing Wednesday moving her things into the pickup truck. Enid joined her, helping her first and then getting her own things on it as well. Once done, the blonde grabbed her duffel bag and looked at Wednesday.
-Alright, let’s go to the police station now., said the blonde.
-Mhm., hummed the smaller girl, closing the back of the pickup truck.
They started walking to the police station right next to the home depot. Enid walked in first, looking around and somewhat relieved when she noticed that the place seemed to be deserted. No one in sight. No noises either. It started to feel like a ghost town. And not in a good way.
