Kaelen, Day One
Kaelen lay in his bedroom, on a Saturday morning, as on any other. He was usually out of bed, joining his parents for breakfast but today was… Different, insanely different. As the whole world had shifted, a new kind of feeling was projected onto Kaelen this early morning. Something of, disappointment, disgust, but of what? It was something of himself, but Kaelen couldn’t identify what it was… There was a knock at the door, and Kaelen was immediately brought out of his thoughts. “Hey sprout!” A voice sounded, one Kaelen knew well. “C’mon, may I come in?” the voice asked. “J-Jayce?! What’re you doing here?” Kaelen shouted, asking while he was still lying in bed. “And… sure, you may come in,” Kaelen said as he dropped his gaze away from the door, and tried to sit up. He still had this feeling, this disappointment he couldn’t pin down at all. “I was droppin’ by to say hey to your parents, they said you hadn’t come out of bed like you usually do. They wanted me to see what's up.” There was a slight pause between Jayce and Kaelen. “I’ve been fine, yeah, ‘fine’ I suppose.” He responds, looking down at the sheets that covered him. "Just... 'fine'? You don't seem too well kiddo." Jayce insists as he approaches Kaelen's bed, sitting at the end of it.
"You, know Sprout, She's really concerned about you, she's your mother you know? It's not every day that you've been like this." Jayce says, putting his hand on Kaelen's shoulder, of course, in a reassuring manner. Kaelen looked at Jayce, there was still that lingering look on his face, Jayce knew something was wrong, but she wasn't gonna beat any answers out of Kaelen, even if it meant knowing what was up. "I just-" Kaelen said, stammering slightly. "I just think, I need some time to figure this out." He finishes. "Figure out.... what?" Jayce questions back, now that he's got Kaelen to open up, It was only right to start getting to the point, at least Jayce thought so. It was easy to tell that Kaelen was hesitant at first, stopping himself from saying anything, it was as if he wanted to open up but something was instantly putting these thoughts at rest. "I just feel, like, really indifferent about myself. If that make any sense? Like, it's just, I don't know."
"Well, it's okay man, you just gotta take your time to underst-" Jayce was instantly cut off by my Kaelen blurting out, "I think I'm transgender!"
"You... think you're trans?" Jayce asks. "Y-Yeah." He responds. "I, uh, I see. Well, you know kiddo, I'm proud of you, you know?"
"Why?"
"Well, you know, it takes a long while for someone to come to such a realization. Some people, won't know they're transgender for weeks, months, or even years man! And, some people are in between, and many others are trying to find themselves right now. Whether it be about sexuality or gender, there are plentiful people like you man. If that makes any sense?”
“I… guess.”
Jayce sighs, looking at Kaelen with that same concerned expression on his face. “It’ll be hard for now, but later on you’ll be able to live as yourself. I swear it.”
He says, keeping Kaelen in that friendly embrace. Kaelen perks up, with a curious look on his face.
“Do you think, mother is supportive?” He asks.
“Eh, she’ll come around. You’re her son, or, if you prefer, you’re her daughter and nothing can change that. Not a single thing.”
“Thank you, Jayce. Seriously, you don't understand how much this means to me.”
