Chapter 2
“Seriously…” Mel continued “I want to understand, what just happened to us?”
“Long and the short of it…” Alex answered “you somehow found your way from your universe to mine…. You landed in the middle of an operation by my team to destroy a Ferrox nest…” The ground shook again…
“That should be it… we can take our time walking now…”
“For many years,” Alex began to explain “this world was protected by teams known as ‘Power Rangers’, they wore suits like mine. They came in many variations, many colors… but one day… every single one of them just… vanished. Not a single ranger of any sort anywhere… all of them gone… Then, the Ferrox Hive showed up. We don’t know where they came from… we don’t know what they want… They just showed up one day and started trashing the place. They seem to be some kind of hyper-evolved Ant-bee hybrid. What you saw were just some of their workers…”
“So you’re saying there are more of them?” Mel asked.
“I’ve personally downed hundreds at this point…”
“That’s scary…” Joshua said.
“And you haven’t met the drones yet…”
“Drones?”
“Well… that’s just the name we gave them… They’re far more intelligent… far more dangerous. They can mutate themselves by absorbing other things into themselves… And then there’s the queen. We’ve only gotten a few remote-controlled camera images of it… but… it’s the size of a city bus…”
“Have you tried talking to them?” Joshua asked, “See what they want.”
“Yeah… problem is they’re physically incapable of human speech and their method of communication is something we’ve been trying to figure out for nearly two years now…”
“There you are, Doc…” A voice said, as five people in suits similar to Alex’s ran up. One was wearing Red, one blue, one yellow, one pink and one silver. Red and pink had skirts on their suits.
“Hey guys… I found these two in the caves.”
The others removed their stones from their guns and revealed themselves.
“I guess we can take them back with us…” the one in the red jacket said “Try to be more careful… I know we don’t operate in secret like a lot of past teams did, but I’d prefer you not telling everyone your life story.”
“Kelly… I’ve published multiple scientific papers in the past two years about the Ferrox and in each of them I discuss our fights.”
“Just… don’t try to undermine me…”
“I’m not trying to do anything… I’m just trying to do our job… save the damn world…”
“So… um… I’m Kelly, Red Ranger, I’m in charge… This is Thom, Greggory, my girlfriend Kira and my brother Marvin…”
She pointed in turn at the one wearing blue, yellow, pink and silver.
“I’m Doctor Melissa Carter and this is my husband, Joshua.”
“hi…” Joshua squeaked out…
“I’m theorizing they’re interdimensional travelers.”
‘What makes you say that?”
“Unless she going for an Indiana Jones cosplay?”
Kelly pulled out her gun, took out a white gemstone and slotted it in the gun.
“Dragon’s Call…” She said, pulling the trigger.
A large, dragon-like projection shot from the end, transforming into a solid object, a plane like vehicle.
“Come on, before the nest remnants try to find us…”
They took off and flew for about an hour, touching down on the outskirts of a city.
“Welcome to Angel Grove…” Alex said as the dragon plane vanished.
Mel and Joshua looked on in amazement. The city was huge. Towers of glass reaching into the sky. Like something from a pulp novel or a film serial.
“Are all your cities like this?” Mel ask.
“Most of the ones that are left… yes…” Thom told them.
“What happened to the ones that aren’t…?” Mel asked, now a little scared herself.
“Leveled by Super Drones… Drones who absorbed large objects, like ships and planes and things like that. They can grow into massive monstrous forms…”
‘Like that?” Joshua asked, pointing towards the mountains. A large creature was walking towards the city.
“Shit… exactly like that…” Gregory yelled. “Looks like it absorbed construction equipment…”
The monster looked like a spider, but with what looked like cranes for legs and a large plow blade on the front.
“Back to work team…” Kelly yelled.
The six drew their guns.
“Dragonizer!” They said in unison, inserting their crystals into the tops.
The “it’s morphin Time!” voice returned as the six triggered their transformations with the call of “Dragon RISE!”
Each now suited, they removed the colored stones from the front of the guns and replaced them with new gems, then holding the guns up to the sky.
“Dragons, Unleash!” They yelled and pulled again.
The guns fired massive beams into the sky of their six colors, and soon six dragons of various types flew out from behind a cloud. It became obvious to Mel and Joshua that they were machines of some kind.
“Dragon Force Megazord!” Kelly yelled. The six disappeared into colored lights that shot out and struck their dragons. They soon began to shape shift. Kelly’s red dragon turned into a torso. Marvin’s silver dragon latched onto the back and turned into wings. Kira and Alex’s dragons turned into legs and Thom and Greggory’s into arms. This new machine was much more humanoid that the dragons had been. It stompped towards the monster and punched it several times, pushing it back away from the city.
“Joshua, please tell me you still have the camera?” Mel asked.
Her husband nodded and handed it to her.
“This is going to make me a very rich woman…” she said as she snapped pictures of the fight.
Eventually, the robot jumped into the air and began to glow. A large rainbow-colored beam of energy appeared between it’s hands, which in brough crashing down like a sword onto the monster, causing it to explode.
The robot broke down into its component dragons. The six colored beams of light returned, and dopped the six back in front of Mel and Joshua as the dragons flew back towards the clouds.
“Does that happen often?”
“Often enough…” Kelly said before inviting the two to follow the group to their base.
