Force, Sand, and Sky. Star Wars Luke SI, Chapter 5

Ahsoka Tano

“Hi Aunt Ahsoka.” His voice was unfamiliar, but the Force… The Force sang.

This was Anakin’s son. There was no doubt.

“How?” She breathed out, and his blue eyes so bright and so familiar darkened a bit with a hint of sorrow, yet, it was sorrow for her.

“Padme, my mother died in childbirth. Obi-Wan took me away, to hide me.” He explained simply, and Ahsoka felt like something had punched her just below her lungs.

She’s always known that Anakin and Padme had…

“Okay what is with all of this?” Ezra called out interrupting, the hot headed boy that was actually about the same age as Luke and as he pushed up to glare she realized both boys were about the same height as well.

If not for the Empire, would they have been friends? Maybe both would have ended up at the temple?

She cut the thought apart, and stuffed it away.

“I’m Luke Skywalker, nice to meet you.” The blonde greeted with a gentle smile towards Ezra.

“And… And you said that monster Vader is your dad!? You even destroyed the Holcron!” Ezra yelled, Hera’s Cell had been terrorized by Vader… By Anakin, a few times now.

“I’m afraid so, and yes. It wouldn’t be able to answer your questions. Sith Holocrons are not to be trusted.” Luke offered so simply that it was almost striking how calm he was, compared to Ezra.

Ezra who took in the calmness of the other boy and seemed unsure how to handle it. So he seemed to get irritated.

“Oh great! Your evil dad has been hunting us, and now you’re just standing here! How do we know you aren’t with him?”

“I am with him. He’s my father and I will save him.” Luke said words that sent Ahsoka into a spiral of horror.

“What? You’re working with the Empire?”

“Of course not.” Then Luke looked away from Ezra, and those striking eyes hit her once again. “Aunt Ahsoka. I know you and your friends have questions, but I really don’t have a lot of time right now. I need to get back, before Obi-Wan does something crazy.”

Ahsoka instantly accepted his words, he spoke with a surety that made her start planning on how to get him to her ship to take him where he wanted to go. Ahsoka was well aware of what kind of crazy Master Obi-Wan could get up to.

“Well good luck with that! It’s gonna be a while before we even get back to the Ghost. I think you’re stuck with us for a while.” Kanan spoke up, disrupting Ahsoka’s thoughts. “So why don’t you answer those questions we do in fact have, while on the way.”

“I won’t be joining you, I’m sorry to say. I really do have to go. Aunt Ahsoka.” Luke said suddenly, bringing a hand up to his mouth as he if was about to whisper, and she leaned in. She only barely heard the muttered word that she was sure the other humans would have missed.

Tattooine.

Tattooine? That dustball? That… That planet that Anakin was from.

Luke nodded knowing in his eyes that she understood.

“Ezra, and Kanan, right? It was nice to meet you. I’m sure we’ll meet again, but for now, if I don’t get back I’m going to be in so much trouble.” He said with a smile on his face that had Ahsoka want to choke at how similar it was to Anakin when he knew he was about to have some fun.

“Yeah and how are you going to leave? We aren’t stopping.” Ezra grumbled, and Luke just smiled, Anakin’s smile.

“How else young Padawan? With the Force. Sorry about the sand.” He said mimicking an oh so familiar Master that had Ahsoka once again feeling like her breath was barely coming through.

Ahsoka found herself stepping back from him, so sure he seemed, and how amused. He turned and then in a moment there was howling wind, and she winced and blinked away as sand washed through the air.

“Hey!” Ezra yelled as he started to spit and shake but then it was over, and Luke was gone.

Only the small flood of Sand over the ship, any sign he had been here before…

“What?”

“That’s what I want to know.” Kanan said and Ahsoka realized that with Ezra still spitting sand it had been her that had gasped out that question.

—--

“I’m back!” I called out the moment the sand released me and I winced at the heat slamming into me.

“Luke!” Obi-Wan called out in a rush as he came back out of his cave looking… Like he was preparing to go to war. He rushed me and I winced as he fussed over me like a clucking hen.

“I’m fine. Not even a scratch.” I argued, spreading my arms.

“Padawan, you know-” Obi-Wan cut himself off. Our eyes met. “Luke. You know you can’t just… Disappear like that. What did you do?”

“I walked among the dunes and sky until I reached Malachor. There I found my father facing Aunt Ahsoka, and two others. Ezra Bridger a Padawan, and his master Kanan. I spoke to Father a little, Ahsoka is very quick to pull out her lightsaber, and then we escaped.” I explained in simple steps as Obi-Wan listened, struggling to retain his normal calm.

“Luke…”

“It’s fine. It was for the best that I did this. I told Ahsoka where to find us befo-”

“Luke! I kept your location hidden so not even… Vader could find you.”

“I know, but…” I looked at the old man, this old man that had sacrificed everything for me. A man confident in what had come before, and what would come in the future…

But that didn’t mean he wasn’t lonely. That he didn’t sometimes feel melancholic.

“We’ll both do well seeing family.” I decided, and then looked at the suns. Shoot, I was definitely going to be late. “Uncle Ben… You should come for dinner.” I told him confidently, and I watched him hesitate. Obi-Wan and Uncle Owen still didn’t get along well, and Owen was never really happy to see Obi-Wan around, but…

Sometimes it was worth it.

“Very well. I’ll get-”

“I can fly us! The T-16 doesn’t have a second seat, but there’s enough space. I’ll fly real gentle.” I offered and I could see the look stretch across his face for a moment of past horrors letting a Skywalker fly.

“I’m sure that’s not necessary.” He tried to deny me, but I sent him my most brilliant smile and held out my hand.

“C’mon Uncle Ben!” I cheered happily ignoring his denial until his shoulder slumped and he slowly dragged his feet into following me towards my T-16.

Heh.

—--

Despite the sudden adventure things got quiet for a while. Ahsoka was on the other side of the galaxy so if she was going to show up, it was going to take a while.

So I just… Carried on. Training with Obi-Wan who had grown a bit more frantic for a bit, but eventually calmed. Repairing whatever was needed around home, and going out to visit the Great Mother from time to time.

It was…

Peaceful.

Even if I could practically feel my Father searching for me. There was a… Shadow, no. A sun. A Dark Sun that seemed to constantly be searching for me that I kept feeling in my dreams.

It might be comforting if not for the fact of what it represented

Darth Vader, and not Anakin Skywalker.

But that wasn’t something I could deal with in the moment. So I woke up and pushed away feelings.

I was in the moment. Not the future, not the past, but the now.

And the now…

Hmm?

I came out of my room yawning and running a hand through my bed head as I wandered into the kitchen.

“Sleepy head.” Aunt Beru greeted me, and I threw her my most brilliant smile that was only broken by a long yawn.

“Yeah. We’re going to have guests tonight Aunt Beru. Is there anything you need from Mos Eisley?” I asked, and that of course got all the attention.

“Mos Eisley? I don’t want you going near that place.”

“I know Aunt Beru, but… Family is coming to visit. I’ll go guide her here once she lands. She doesn’t know the location.” I explained confidently. The Sand had been tittering almost sinisterly, and while I could take it as a more negative explanation, I just knew it was planning on making Ahsoka run around Mos Eisley for a while if I didn’t interfere.

Aunt Beru was quiet as she turned from the breakfast pastries she’d been preparing.

“Family Luke?” She asked quietly. Although it wasn’t often talked about Aunt Beru, and Uncle Owen both knew I was different. They knew, but didn’t understand. So I usually kept overt things like foreknowledge to myself.

It wouldn’t help them usually, and in fact like many people. Trying to counter a possible future is often the best way to run smack into it.

“Aunt Ahsoka, she was my father's apprentice… She hasn’t seen Uncle Ben since before I was born. It’ll be a sweet reunion.” I answered the last bit whispered with a smile to let Aunt Beru know it was a good thing.

“Ah I see.” She offered and then smirked. “I’ll get a list for you.”

“Yes Aunt Beru!” I accepted even as she pulled out a plate of already finished pastries and set it out before me along with a glass of milk.

—--

I found a spot where my T-16 wouldn’t be bothered… Probably. The Stars whispered it would be okay, and that was good enough.

Even if the stars were often tricksters, and my idea of okay, and theirs was very different.

And had spent the morning hitting a few shops around Mos Eisley picking up some extra food and things, when I finally saw it.

A new ship coming into land in the star port, one that I was absolutely confident was Ahsoka.

Obi-Wan was going to be thrilled.

I threw an extra coin into the pile I’d been using to haggle to confirm my purchase, and the last thing on Aunt Beru’s list was thrown into my satchel before I hurried off, doing my best to remain unseen from both the Storm Troopers that patrolled Mos Eisley, and the gangs that would happily try to stop me for one reason or another. I did have my Blaster at my side, ready in case anyone gave me trouble. But nothing stopped me as I scurried straight for the hangars, passing the first two before stopping at the doors to the third.

I stopped and walked through the personnel door and there was Ahsoka, already arguing with a Rodian, one of the hangar controllers.

Ahsoka stopped mid sentence and turned as I walked in.

There was a moment of silence as she recognized me, and I flashed her my brightest smile as I hurried over.

“Aunty A!” I cheered and ran into her, pulling her into a massive hug that she almost squawked as I lifted her off the floor and spun.

She was still a bit taller than I was but that hardly mattered, and it wasn’t like Obi-Wan wasn’t giving me plenty of physical training.

“Etu…” The Rodian mumbled in surprise but I put Ahsoka down and matched her own growing smile.

“Uncle Ben is going to be happy to see you.”

“And I’ll be happy to see him.” She turned to the Rodian. “It appears I won’t be staying long. A refuel is enough.” She said and then haggled for a moment before passing over Trugut to pay for the fuel.

The rodian shrugged. ‘If that’s what you want.’ He turned and left yelling at some droids to get Ahsoka’s ship fueled.

“I’m surprised you found me.” She offered and I threw her a grin.

“I knew you’d be here today. So I made sure I was in town gathering some groceries for Aunt Beru.” I explained, the name confused Ahsoka so I added. “Aunt Beru, and Uncle Owen are the ones that raised me. Owen is Fathers step brother. Grandma Shmi ended up joining his family when father left Tatooine.”

“I see. You’re happy here?” She asked, hesitating a little as she asked.

“Of course!” I said before stopping and waffling my head back and forth. “I mean, I want to be a pilot of course, and see all the stars in the sky, but I love my family. It’ll be great to have you here too. Another part of my family to sit around the table and share a meal? It’s a wonderful thought.” I said and Ahsoka looked flattered at my words as she reached out and rested a hand on my shoulder.

“I’ll be happy to share a meal with you.”

“Great, here I’ll give you the coordinates to the farm. I should go poke Uncle Ben so he’ll show up as well. I’ll meet you there?”

“I will be on my way once I’m refueled.” She assured me, and I smiled and pulled her into a hug once again ignoring her stiffening for a moment before relaxing.

It took a moment but soon she pulled me into a tight hug, Ahsoka was stronk, as she gripped me tightly and almost desperately.

It’s okay Aunt Ahsoka. Everything would be okay. There was nothing to fear. The Force was with us.

I blinked as I felt something new and looked up into a pair of owl eyes.

A quiet hoot met my ears.

“Morai?” Ahsoka whispered in surprise.

“Oh hello.” I greeted and reached up, letting my fingers sink into soft feathers. A moment later we felt each other out.

The powerful presence within the Morai looked at me, and much to the bird's surprise I looked back.

Old. Ancient beyond concept, the Morai was no more a bird than the Great Mother was just a Krayt.

There was a moment where the Morai felt so confused, almost panicked, as it stood before something it couldn’t understand.

But I simply hummed in my throat, as I stroked her feathers.

The sun blinked. The Wind pressed across us, ruffling her feathers for a moment, and the sand scraped, chirping out a word.

‘Skywalker.’

And there was understanding. How could there be confusion between those like us when the Force was with us?

It blinked its eyes and then hooted again and then as if none of that had happened, it ran its beak through my messy hair and started playing with the strands.

I laughed at the feeling, and turned to see Ahsoka looking surprised.

Seriously what is it with Force Sensitives always being surprised by things. Use the force people.

“Your friend is nice.” I told Ahsoka, and that shook her up for a moment before nodding.

“The Morai has… Saved my life more than once. I’ve never seen her like someone so fast before.”

“I think I just remind her of someone.” I said, at least I was fairly confident that was about right, but I shook that off, and Morai hooted at me in irritation as I urged her off.

“But we’ll finish our greetings when you get to the farm, I’ll see you there!” I cheered and ran off. Heh! I’ll definitely beat her back to the farm! I’ll take Beggars Canyon and let Obi-Wan know, and then race back! It’ll be fun!

—--

“Aww. You beat me.” I couldn’t help but call out as I parked the T-16 and came out to see Ahsoka already at the moisture farm.

“Only by a few minutes.” She assured me.

“Really Luke, don’t tell me you were rushing again.” Aunt Beru asked me, and I instantly put on my most innocent look.

“Of course not Aunt Beru! You know me. I only fly in the safest manner.” I lied, and from the looks both women shot me I wasn’t very convincing. I of course just smiled brighter and pulled off my satchel. “I got everything you asked for Aunt Beru.”

“Hmph!” She teased me, taking the satchel and going through it, before nodding. “At least my boy is honest about some things.” Which earned her my own noise of complaint. I didn’t lie! I just… Told the truth from a certain point of view!

Definitely can’t say that though. Uncle Owen would eventually hear and he’d not be happy that I was taking after Uncle Ben. So I changed the topic.

“Aunt Beru. This is Aunt Ahsoka.” I offered a bit late for the introduction, but calling Ahsoka Aunt was… Pointed.

Beru turned to look over Ahsoka again, seeing her in a new light.

“Well, any family of Lukes is welcome here.” Aunt Beru stated firmly, and Ahsoka looked a little flattered at the strength of Aunt Beru’s conviction. “Of course you’ll need to inform your Uncle.”

“Ugh.” I groaned because Uncle Owen was grouchy!

But I shrugged that off and turned to Ahsoka. “C’mon. We have some time before Obi-Wan gets here. I’ll show you around!” I offered and Ahsoka nodded, seemingly pleased to let me lead her around the Farm.

“This is my room.” I offered, opening the door and there was a pulse through the force, a feeling that emerged from her control.

My smile went from happy to a bit sad, as she looked around.

The desk full of parts, the ship models, and all sorts of random bits and bobs.

“You’re tidier than Anakin.” She mentioned as she walked over to my very messy desk, picking up a random droid part for a second. “He could never keep his stuff on his workstation. Half that time I entered his room I had to step around parts right from the door.”

“Heh. Aunt Beru would tan my hide if I didn’t keep my floors clean, but you should see it when I’m actively working. I tend to have parts everywhere too.” She looked at me, and I got a real look at Ahsoka Tano.

She seemed sad. It was one of the strongest things I’ve gathered from her in the Force. Sure, she was strong, there was a solid shell of fierce strength surrounding her core, but underneath was a terrible sadness.

It reminded me of Obi-Wan.

I stepped forward, and then a bit closer, reaching out and grabbing her hand that she’d left hanging from her other arm, as her arms had closed around her. Her hands were warm, but the cold chill from deeper in was there.

The dark cold of someone without hope.

“There is still good in my Father. He hides it. He does everything he can to refuse to accept it because it hurts him, but it’s there. The core of who he is can never be destroyed. I promise Ahsoka, one day you’ll look into the force and feel him there again. Like he was never gone.” I spoke, but my words weren’t just coming from my throat.

Ahsoka shuddered as the Force around her shuddered. The Sand and Wind spoke alongside me. Ahsoka opened her eyes and the blue of her eyes met my own.

“Have Hope, Aunt Ahsoka. Nothing has been decided yet. Not the fate of the galaxy, or even the fate of one man.”

My words had some impact, but I could feel her straightening a bit as she sent me a smirk. “You take after more than your father after all.” She said as she reached out and brushed my hair.

“Hey!”

—--

Not long later we both walked out of the Farm compound as an old Bantha finally stopped slowly walking up the sand and Obi-Wan stepped off it’s back, right into the sudden onrushing arms of Ahsoka who hadn’t hesitated a second before slamming into him. Her arms locked around him as she buried her face in his neck.

I stayed back, giving the two the privacy of the winds to share words that neither had ever expected to hear from each other again.

Ahsoka was a Jedi, had been raised as such, and Obi-Wan… If Anakin was her older brother, and sometimes father, Obi-Wan had been the slightly more distant father and grandfather… Maybe the Uncle?

Heh. I bet I could get her to call him Uncle Ben too.

Not long after the two separated, Obi-Wan offered me a smile that seemed like it had lost a few years. I tilted my head inside and he nodded following as I led the two Jedi onto the farm.

“If I had known you were going to ride the Bantha here, I’d have just waited for you, and givem you a lift.” I told Obi-Wan and he shuddered.

“I wouldn’t dare hold you off when you’re in a rush young Luke.”

“The T-16 isn’t the most comfortable, but it’s not that bad.” I argued back, and there was the slightest snort coming out of the older man's nose.

“I fear it has little to do with the accommodations.”

“I’m a great flier!” I argued and of course he just sent me a smile that looked like he was agreeing without actually doing anything of the sort!

“Pfft.” Ahsoka chuckled a bit, hiding her smile behind her hand. “He’s just like Anakin.”

“Thank you.” I said proudly, and both Jedi looked at each other in amusement.

She of course hadn’t meant that as a compliment exactly.

“Thankfully, Luke also takes after his mother… Padme usually knew how to land a ship without crashing it.” Obi-Wan offered and Ahsoka cracked into laughter, that slowly became almost hysterical for a moment before she fought herself back under control.

“I’ve never crashed! Not once! That time doesn’t count!” I told Obi-Wan, purposefully making some space for Ahsoka to get herself back under control.

“Oh? I remember having to pull a young man from a downed ship-”

“I had to do that to save Biggs!” I argued, crashing the T-16 on top of a particularly angry wild Massiff, after my Pneumatic cannon had just pissed it off, had been a required maneuver to save my friend!

At least I knew I could bullseye a charging Massiff, even if my gun hadn’t been strong enough to stop it.

“Of course.” Obi-Wan said sending a smirk to Ahsoka that she returned, both of them falling into a familiar routine of teasing a Skywalker.

Fine I’ll allow it, but don’t think I won’t pull out funny stories of my own old man!

We turned into the dining room and Uncle Owen was there wiping his hands of dust as he looks from me, to Obi-Wan, giving a scowl, and then noticing Ahsoka, and while he scowled a bit harsher for a second, Aunt Beru nudged him while smiling, and he grumbled a bit.

“Welcome to my home. I’m Owen Lars. Come, please join us for dinner.”

“I thank you. I’m Ahsoka Tano.” Ahsoka greeted, with a small bow and Owen didn’t look any happier, but we all entered the room.

I watched as before my eyes the dining room suddenly grew so much more… Cozy. Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka sat close to each other, the two sharing looks and smiles whenever their attention crossed. Aunt Beru happily served everyone food and water. A powerful tradition on Tatooine. Owen looked irritated, but I kept sending him happy smiles as stories were shared around the table about not just the past, but the future, Ahsoka asking me questions about myself, and my plans.

By the end, I had Owen chuffing out a hidden laugh as I described some silly story I’d gotten up to as a kid, while Obi-Wan hid his smile in his beard and Ahsoka laughed along with Uncle Owen.

My family was here. I couldn’t help but look around the table and I was struck with a realization that made me smile all the more.

The table wasn’t large, but it had an interesting number of seats, enough for a few more. I blinked my eyes as the force showed me what could be. Grumpy Anakin next to Ahsoka as she leaned into him to whisper something teasing. A pair of fancily dressed nobles, looking a bit uncomfortable as Anakin glared at them, before his face softened as he looked past them towards the other.

Brown eyes met blue.

A moment, just between us. I sent her a smile, and pulled a pallie from the bowl on the table. I held it out. Surprised brown eyes met my own and there was a flicker of confusion, but there was also a profound familiarity.

She reached out and took the Pallie, and I smirked at her, as she hesitated before biting into it. Her eyes widened in surprise at the delicious taste.

There was another, a tiny little gremlin that was looking at me with clear eyes, but before I could send him a shrug.

“Luke?” I blinked, everything was back to normal.

“Oh sorry Aunt Beru!” I offered laughing, as I settled back down. My hand empty.
