Smile
Leaves of reds, yellows, and oranges crunched beneath their feet as they followed the beaten path through the woods in a near complete silence. She could feel the tense muscles in his hand as their fingers stayed intertwined.
“Do you want to head back?” She asked suddenly, her voice sounding almost too loud after the earlier silence.
“If that’s what you want.” Her brunette companion answered, his hand ever so slightly tightening around hers.
“Is there something bothering you?”
“No.”
“Bruce.”
“I just….I don’t like the idea of being alone in the middle of nowhere knowing there’s a chance ‘the other guy’ could hurt you.” He explained after a moment.
“I trust you.” [Y/N] reassured with a small smile, “Besides, nothing is going to happen.”
Bruce only sighed at her confidence, wishing to distance himself from her and the possibilities of what could happen, yet at the same time all he wanted was to take her in his arms and forget the rest of the world.
“What if something does happen [Y/N]?” He inquired with a frown, “How am I supposed to live with myself if something happens to you?”
“Honestly Bruce, you need to have more faith in yourself.” She replied, giving his hand a reassuring squeeze.
“It’s the other guy I don’t trust.”
“Well stop thinking of him and enjoy the moment.”
“How am I supposed to do that?” Bruce asked curiously.
“For starters you could smile.” [Y/N] suggested, standing on her tip toes then tilting her head up to brush her lips lightly over his, “For me?”
“For you.” Bruce said with a smile, leaning down to press a chaste kiss to her lips before they continued walking along the path.
