Never Let Me Go
“You never stop to think of yourself!”
“What am I supposed to do, let them die?”
“That’s not what I’m saying, I just want you to think about what you do for once!”
“If I don’t need to think about it, if I die knowing I saved a life instead of ending one for a change then that’s fine with me.”
“Charming James, and what about me? What am I supposed to do if something happens to you?”
“You were fine before I came along, you’ll do just fine without me.”
Silence was all that followed, she merely stared at him like a wounded animal. Sometimes his words hurt her more than any wound her had ever received. The brunette super soldier apparently realized his mistake for he sighed and reached out to her.
“I’m sorry doll, I just can’t stand the idea of someone getting hurt when I can prevent it.”
“But I apparently my hurt doesn’t count.”
“Don’t say that, you matter more than anyone.” Bucky sighed, watching as she stepped away from his touch.
“Just….leave me alone James, I need to get used to not having you around.” [Y/N] ordered, turning away from him.
She had only managed to take three steps away from him before strong arms were wrapped around her waist. His face buried in her hair, breathing in her scent, but she remained stiff not allowing herself to react to his touch.
“I’m sorry.” He said in her ear, pressing a kiss to her neck before continuing, “I don’t think sometimes but hurting you is the last thing I want to do.”
“I’m scared James, I’m scared that one day you’ll go out on a mission and never come back.” [Y/N] confessed in a shaky voice.
“I’ll try to be careful from now on but I can’t make any promises.”
“That’s all I want, I just want you to at least try and be careful instead of acting rashly.”
He spun her around so that he could look down into her [e/c] eyes, giving her a soft smile as his hand gently stroked the side of her face.
“I love you James.” [Y/N] whispered, tears now stinging at the corners of her eyes.
“I love you too doll.” Bucky said, leaning down to press a sweet kiss against her lips.
“Uh, I hate to interrupt but we have to go.” Steve coughed awkwardly.
“Again?” Bucky sighed, looking over at his best friend.
“Afraid so.”
Bucky looked down at [Y/N] with an apologetic smile as she reached up to cup his cheek. Their eyes locked and there was an unspoken conversation between them before he pressed a kiss to her forehead and followed Steve to the elevator.
