Never Too Old

“You could always dress up as Ms. Greif.” Yosafire suggested as she paced eagerly around Dialo’s kitchen. “She’s pretty scary, if you’re asking me.” The green-haired demon continued. She paused only to shudder violently- as if to prove that their terribly angry teacher was as bad as Yosaf made her out to be.

“Homework’s scary to you, too.” Came Froze’s blunt reply. She was trying to fix up the costume Yosafire had begged her to wear this evening. Truth be told, the angel had no intentions on dressing up. She only agreed to it because Yosafire looked as though she was about to burst out sobbing when Froze declined her initial proposal.

“No, it’s not!” Yosafire protested. “Weed pulling is scary! I’m not afraid of homework.” The demon said with a curt nod of her head and a soft harrumph. “I just don’t like to do it! ‘Cause, like, who assigns homework after school? It doesn’t make sense t’me!” She would have continued if not for the irritated stare Froze shot in her direction.

“I don’t think Chelan and I will be going out.” Dialo explained as she sliced an apple clean down the middle. The demon’s angel companion emitted a little chirp in agreement and cast Yosafire a wordless, apologetic stare. As expected, the bespectacled demon couldn’t help but jump back with a loud cry of ‘Whaaaaaat?!”

“You can’t just skip trick or treating, Dialo!” The demon almost sounded offended, “It’s, like… the most important part of Halloween! You’ll be missing out on candy, and goodies, and pranks and dressing up and all the fun stuff!” She crossed her arms and promptly leaned against the far wall of the kitchen. “You’re so laaaaame!” She whined, punctuating the world ‘lame’ with a stomp of her foot on the ground.

“And you’re a child.” The icy angel grunted as she rose to a stand and yanked the makeshift Proton Pack over her shoulder. “Dialo and Chelan have probably grown out of trick or treating.” The angel explained as she approached her still-pouting girlfriend. As soon as Froze reached her hand out for Yosafire to hold, the green-haired demon seemed to perk up near-instantly.

Chelan hummed and whispered something to Dialo, to which the redhead chuckled lightly and nodded. “If we were to come with you, Yosafire, you wouldn’t be able to eat all of our leftovers from the trick or treaters.”

The demon opened her mouth to protest, but closed it again a few moments later. She puffed her cheeks out and fixed Dialo with as serious a stare as she could. “... You promise I get your leftovers when me n’ Froze get back?”

A light laugh left the red-haired demon. Chelan gave a happy little whistle and eagerly nodded her head up and down. Yosafire pumped her fist up in the air and let out a triumphant cry of joy in response to that and got right down to dragging Froze out the door. All the while, words spilled from her mouth like running water.

“We gotta go right now and get our trick or treating done as soon as possible so we can get all the leftovers when we get back we can bring Rawberry and Macarona too-”

The last thing Dialo and Chelan heard before the door closed with a faint ‘click’ was Froze’s exasperated groan and Yosaf’s excited chattering.
