Chapter 1
The bell that indicated the end of the last class just rang and A-ya is laying on his table pretending to be sleeping, his classmates are leaving the room one by one, the sounds of chats and laughs vanishing slowly leaving him with the silence of the room. Soon all of the sound disappear on the corridors too. Deciding to move, he takes all of his belongings and walk to the back door of the class, stopping briefly to stare at the window and noticing that’s starting to get dark.
A-ya walks straight to his lock and changes his shoes, walking himself to the building of the backward. There’s almost no person towards him, what allows him to relax a little while walking to the old building. Once there he looks at everywhere making sure he’s alone before pushing the front door open and entering.
This building used to be where the old cubs where, at least before they changed to the newest one, abandoning this one. However, this place wasn’t abandoned because it’s old, in fact, it’s pretty new, but ten years ago they found four students dead. The panic caused by the others students made everyone being too scared to come to this building and forced the director to build a new one.
The place where these four students were found is localized on the second floor on the old music class, where A-ya is going to. Stopping in front of the door and sighing he slowly opens the door noticing he’s not alone.
“Hey”
“Welcome, A-ya” C-ta, that’s sitting on a table reading a book, looks at him and smile friendly.
A-ya gets inside the room going to the closest table and putting his bag on it, he sits and take an old diary that he found on that place. On that diary has several rumors, a lot that he never heard, and some notes of the old members of the occultism club, of the four students that were murdered on that place. It takes a few minutes to A-ya to notice that C-ta is behind him observing the diary, putting it on the table and turning to C-ta, A-ya waits for him to say something.
“Did you found anything new about this diary?” C-ta smiles pulling a chair and sitting next to A-ya.
“Nothing interesting” A-ya sighs returning his attention to the book on his table and opening it on the lasts pages. “Let’s do it?” He asks showing the page to C-ta that approach his face to the book narrowing his eyes and putting a hand in his chin.
“Hmmm… The book of demise? What’s it?” His eyes wide and he withdraws.
“It’s written here that’s a book full of urban legends, it’s said that the page where the bookmark of demise is, the cat bookmark, the legend there will turn real.” A-ya smiles bringing the book close to himself “We could call B-ko!” He looks at C-ta, noticing that the other is having a negative reaction and decides to continue speaking “And… uh… That friend of her too!”
Not caring about the situation, C-ta gets up and picks his bag and book. Noticing that his friend is leaving, A-ya decides to follow the example and put away his book, observing C-ta carefully. A-ya realized that C-ta doesn’t talk with girls too often and that he didn’t take a liking to B-ko, but he still wants to invite her because she showed a huge interest for the occultism.
“What’s wrong?” C-ta asks turning briefly to A-ya.
“Nothing.” A-ya murmurs taking his phone and writing ideas to new rumors he could spread.
A-ya won’t admit it but C-ta is his best friend, both know each other for years, always playing together since they’re neighbors and their moms know each other as well. Each room is in front of the other, being separate by a huge tree with large branches that goes to their windows and allows them to visit each other room. Yet, their personalities are opposite; C-ta is the type of person who cares about what one thinks about him, trying to be in the middle of each opinion and A-ya is the type of person who doesn’t care with nothing that’s not creating and spreading rumors.
“A-ya we’re here.” C-ta calls him, pointing to the house in front of him.
Smiling and knowing exactly what A-ya is going to ask him, C-ta waves and runs inside his home, locking his door and leaving A-ya in front of the house. A-ya sighs and slowly walks to his house unlocking and getting inside, removing his shoes in the process and letting it in the corner of the door. Realizing that he’s alone he decided to go straight to his home.
“Tomorrow is weekend…” He murmurs while getting inside his room and throwing himself on his bed.
Even if this sounds sad, A-ya is used to be alone in his house, his parents work till later and because of that they stay at hotels close to their job or even on their office. Turning himself to the roof and taking the control in the headboard on his bed, he turns the TV and searches for something that calls his attentions but end up leaving the channel on an old and bored horror movie.
After minutes, he finally decides to sit and looks at his windows seeing C-ta in front of his computer. Feeling an eye upon himself, C-ta turns his head and wave to A-ya that only stare at him for some seconds and gets up going to his closet and searching for some clothes to wear.
When he’s done changing he goes back to his bed and try to finish the movie that’s on TV. A few commercials later, he hears a knock on his window and turns to find C-ta with two bowls and cutlery. Groaning, but finding a chance to suggest the game again, he gets up and unlock the windows allowing C-ta in.
“Wow, it’s sad that you still lock it.” C-ta complains while entering the room.
“If I don’t, you’ll get here at night and mess around with my stuff. That’s creep” A-ya explains walking backwards and giving C-ta more space so he doesn’t falls.
“Ah” C-ta laughs, messing with his hair with his free hand “I just did that once when we’re child, forget that.”
“I woke up and you’re using my clothes and playing with my socks” A-ya watches him when he sits on his bed.
“Forget that. It’s embarrassing.” C-ta says putting the bows on his side.
“It’s creep.”
“A-yaaaaa” He cries out, covering his face with his hands.
“Why the bows?” A-ya question, sitting on his bed and taking one.
“Mom said your parents weren’t coming home this weekend, so she maid food for you.” C-ta answers taking his hand out of his face and looking to his side, blushing because of the previous chat.
“Hm” A-ya stares at him, knowing that C-ta is on his room to eat with him. “You’re weird”
“Am I?” C-ta raise an eyebrow while taking his bow and opening it. “You’re the boy who gets excited with rumors”
“I don’t get excited” A-ya blushes a little still observing C-ta.
Murmuring to himself, A-ya takes the bow and opens it, finishing the horror move while eating. Once C-ta finish eating he closes his bow and puts it on the stand that’s on the side of the bed and lays on his bed staring at the TV. A-ya finish right before, doing the same with his bow but staying in his position with a pillow on his lap. Minutes before his concentration from the TV was interrupted with a pillow on his head, turning to C-ta ready to take revenge he’s stopped when the boy speaks.
“Can I sleep here?”
“No” The answer is automatic, accompanied with a pillow.
“Ouch” C-ta cries sitting and taking the pillow off his face “Why?”
“Because whenever you do, you don’t want to sleep on the mattress and you don’t let me sleep there.”
“And?”
“Weird”
“You’re the only one who seems to have a problem with it.”
“Hey” A-ya says finally turning to C-ta “Why don’t you want B-ko to join us?”
“I didn’t said that” C-ta reply closing his eyes “Why do you want to get the book of demise?”
“Because life is bored.”
One of the most popular rumors overall school, the book and bookmark of demise, no one knows when it appeared, it’s just known when it spread itself for all school: when the bodies of the students were found. There’s no person on their school that didn’t heard about that rumor but there’s also no proof or track of the book, or at least it never was found, until now. A-ya found the diary of the students and with that he can prove to himself if that rumor is true or not and leave his routine life for a while but for that he’ll need people.
“Alright” C-ta says bringing A-ya back to reality
“Really?”
“BUT…” He smiles malevolently lifting his index finger and pointing to the roof. A-ya sighs, knowing what’s coming. “I’ll sleep here with you this weekend and NO, you can’t sleep on the mattress and neither can I. If you agree with that then I’ll agree on calling them.” C-ta takes the bows and the cutlery while staring at A-ya that agrees slowly. “Nice, I’ll tell my mom. Don’t lock the window.” He says going to the window and equilibrating himself till his room.
“Will you bring more food?” A-ya screams watching C-ta agrees with his head “Don’t bring cutlery I have here”
When C-ta gets to his room he looks briefly to his computer then leave. A-ya stands on his windows for some minutes turning back to notice that a new series was starting and turning his TV off. Laying on his bed and he stared at the clock up his TV and noticed that’s 6:30pm. Wanting to wait for C-ta but feeling sleepy he closed his eyes and felt tiredness hits him.
A-ya wakes up and everything is dark, sitting on his bed and rubbing his eyes he searches for C-ta and notices that his window is now closed. Slowly, he gets up and walks until it, seeing that C-ta lights are off too. Hearing a sound downstairs, he leaves his room searching for C-ta and finding him once he gets on the living room. C-ta is eating in the table and watching the TV. When he sees A-ya he smiles and point to the microwave.
“Your food is on microwave, just turn it up”
“Ok” So he did, A-ya walked to the microwave and pressed one minute.
“Missed me?” C-ta turns to him and when he sees the confusing face A-ya was making he continues “On the bed”
“I felt like the happiest person on the world when I woke up and didn’t saw your face” A-ya replied hearing C-ta crying and turning to the TV. When the microwave showed one second, he presses it to stop and taking his food, cutlery, and sitting next to C-ta that’s trying to wipe his tears.
A little annoyed to see that his joke was considered serious, A-ya stare to C-ta for a few seconds ignoring his thoughts that tells him to say he was joking and starting to eat. Don’t take long when he finish eating, looking to the clock on the wall he noticed it’s 10pm then decides to go back to his bed. He gets up and puts his dishes on the sink with C-ta dishes and walk to the door. C-ta, that’s now sitting on the sofa watching TV, notices he leaving an decided to follow.
“Are you going to sleep?” He asks stopping a few steps behind A-ya
“Yes, you can watch more if you want. I’m tired.” A-ya stops turning to face him.
“Can I watch on your room?” C-ta asks, going back to the living room and turning the TV off.
Without answering, A-ya goes to his room and takes his pajamas, going to the bathroom to take a bath and meeting with C-ta on the way. When he finish bathing and changing he does back to his room, C-ta is lying on a side of the bed, staring at the TV. A-ya walks to his bed, getting in between C-ta and the wall and facing his back to him. Yawing, he noticed the bed getting light and when he open his eyes, the lights are off.
“I didn’t said you needed to turn it off” A-ya whispers, covering himself with his blank.
“You said you’re going to sleep.” C-ta laughs trying to get a little of the cover “Don’t be egoistic, A-ya”
“Hell no. Take your own cover, I already let you stay in my bed, not gonna share”
“But this one is large enough for us”
“No”
“Yes”
“NO”
“Yes” C-ta takes the cover and holds it with his body, hearing a ‘tsk’ from A-ya.
Don’t take too long to A-ya to blackout after that. A few hours later, he wakes up with something heavy upon him, trying to turn to his side he sees that’s C-ta that’s using him as a pillow and, sighing, trying not to be with bad mood, he tries to free himself by pushing C-ta off his bed, something that he manages a few attempts later.
When C-ta falls he scream, sitting slowly and facing A-ya with a pained expression. A-ya, on the other side, face him back with an angry expression and gets up leaving his room and going to the bathroom. One of the reasons he refuses to sleep with C-ta is because, even since they’re youngers, C-ta would come too close and use him as a pillow whenever they went to sleep and since he was always shorter and weaker than C-ta that always annoys him. A-ya leave his bathroom meeting with C-ta that was in front of his door almost sleeping.
“My bad” Both said at the same time facing each other.
C-ta smiles, going through him and to the bathroom closing its door. A-ya goes back to his room, remembering that he needs to put his phone to charge and searching for it. When he finds it, he unlock and sends a message to B-ko.
« Sunday the school will allow a meeting to the clubs to talk about the annual activities. I’m trying to convince C-ta to go and play the game with us, try talking to D-ne. »
When he finish writing the message he sends it and connect the charge to his phone connecting the outlet and leaving it on his headboard. He lays back and tries to sleep, minutes before he fully fall asleep he hears steps and feel his bed becoming heavier, deducing it’s C-ta he whispers something to himself and hears C-ta answering, but ends up sleeping not paying attention to what he’s saying.
