Chapter 1

Agatha sat by the tree looking out at the lake, her shoulders feeling tight almost as if something was holding her down. Behind her she heard footsteps, she recognized them. It was the woman she couldn't bare looking at anymore, yet the woman she couldn't take her eyes off. She stopped a few feets away from Agatha, holding her breath before she spoke

“You're quiet tonight”.

“I like the quiet,” Agatha replied, not turning around.

Her voice was calm but Rio knew something wasn't right, why would she sit out here by the lake, all alone in the middle of the night. Rio sat down next to her,

“I picked this for you” she said, handing her a single nightshade, she knew it was Agatha's favorite.

“Thanks” she said when blue eyes met brown.

Rio hesitated for a second, wanting to len in for a kiss, a kiss she had been yearning for but the look of unsureness crossed Agatha's face, stopped her.

Agatha turned her head around, closing her eyes, shaking her head slightly, almost as if she was answering a question, standing up she slightly whispered

“I can't”

But just enough for Rio to hear it as she walked back towards the cabin, leaving the heartless brown haired woman with a heart ache. Rio took a deep breath looking at the single nightshade she hadn't taken and made her way towards the cabin, their cabin.

She stopped and took a last look at their home, she took a slight look in the window, seeing her wife heading towards the smaller room in the cabin, where their son Nicky a few hours had fallen asleep in. She tried to take it all in one last time, the home they had spent centuries in, built up with all kinds of memories, but really it was just a cabin, Agatha and their son had made it feel like home. And as she turned around, walking in the opposite direction of the cabin, a single tear streamed down her chin, fully aware that that was the last time she would ever see her again, her beloved Agatha Harkness. Because maybe in another universe she wasn't death herself.

It had been almost over two decades since she had felt the touch of her love, she wasn't sure where she was or what she was up to, she stopped trying to find her after realizing she simply didn't want to be found

It was closing night at the bar Rio currently worked at, the noises of loud drunk men filled the room and as she was finishing off her shift she was greeted with a familiar voice, she sighed.

“Not again Rio mumbled to herself. It wasn't the first time she had heard the sound of what she thought was her voice, Agatha's voice. But she was nowhere to be found.

Didn't you finish your shift like an hour ago? a woman behind her said.

“Ah Wanda. Yeah I'm heading home now, but you know how it is- always something left to do” she sighed, cleaning up the mess of what appeared to be a mix of beer and soggy fries.

“I wouldn't know, I leave as soon as my shift ends. Who would willingly stay here” Wanda snorted

And god did she ever shut up. Rio hated her.

“Well i'll see you tomorrow then” Rio said, gathering her stuff.

“Wait, are you heading home?”

“That's my plan, yeah” Rio replied, unsure, confused by the sudden question

“Well change in plans then, you and i are going out” she responded, excited almost

“You know i have an early shift tomorrow, i really-” But Wanda`s voice snapped, cutting her off

“Oh come on, you are like 40 years old. Live a little”

Thousands of years old.

“Listen i finish early tomorrow, i'll go with you then” Rio gave in

“Fine, you owe me a drink then” she smirked,

“Sure Wanda”

She sure as hell won't go out with Wanda.

She packed up her things and headed to the car. She couldn't wait for this day to be over.

She entered her apartment, letting out a long sigh while heading her way to the bedroom, laying down on her queen sized bed, fingers tracing the silver locket around her neck as her thoughts drifted to her.

On the other side of the world, sat Agatha Harkness on the couch just in front of the tv. It was just like any other Friday, but the woman had lost track of time a long time ago, it had never really mattered to her. What difference does it make if it was Monday or Thursday?

The apartment was quiet, just the way she liked it, unlike her thoughts, the chaos in her mind that never seemed to settle. Glancing out the window, circling her fingers around the cup of tea in her hand. Which was probably cold by now. Her thoughts drifting to her. She couldn't help but wonder how life was treating her, if she was okay. She would imagine it sometimes, what she was doing, she would picture her in a cafe, sipping on her coffee. No. Rio would hate that. Maybe sitting down by her apartment. No. A house, perhaps there would be someone else there, waiting for her to come home-. But she stopped herself before thinking further. Shrugging it off, she made her way towards the bedroom.

Agatha looked for Rio everywhere, she knew the way to see her again but it didn't satisfy her enough, and a part of her never wanted to see her again because how could she. How could she look at her, without seeing him? She saw him in her dark brown eyes, the straight, slightly rounded nose she had, mirror of his and that warmth smile of hers. A soft smile, one would say it felt almost magical. But she couldn't bare to look at it, she couldn't bare to look at that one person who reminded her of what she had once lost.

As the two women laid on each bed, miles away from each other, they closed their eyes and drifted off, their minds on one another.
