Chapter 8
Calamity Ganon collapses to the ground with an earth shattering thud.
Atop of his beloved horse Epona and nursing a wounded arm, Link watches with an almost clinical detachment as Zelda, aglow in a blinding white light, floats to the ground with a serene expression on her face.
The young woman lifts a hand and consumes the beast in light.
There’s a second before the beast is swallowed, a split second, that Link almost swears he sees something in those empty yellow eyes. Something other than evil and hatred and anger. Something that, if Link didn’t know better, he could have sworn almost looks like relief. Like the beast is happy to be destroyed.
He puts it down to his imagination.
Link would have thought destroying Calamity Ganon would at least be satisfying. After all, hadn’t he just taken revenge on the creature who’d taken everything and everyone he loved? Everyone except Zelda.
Oddly, it doesn’t. He’s just… empty. Like a puppet with his strings cut.
