A bastards memories

So this is what Lucien meant when he told me to be myself.

It’s actually working.

I guess that means the real Lucien and I aren’t so different after all.

No one’s been acting suspicious. No one’s questioning if I’m actually him. They just treat me the same way they always have.

Which means... that bastard and I really have the same personality.

And honestly? That’s a little annoying.

Lucien, you little—your past keeps popping into my head at the most random moments. I can’t even drink my tea in peace without remembering something ridiculous.

Like that time you nearly burned the entire estate down just because you couldn’t find your stupid teddy bear.

And the craziest part? Your parents didn’t even scold you. They just coddled you and bought you five more.

What a lucky bastard.

If you’d actually burned the house to the ground, I’d probably be living on the streets right now—with cockroaches.

I shudder at the thought.

At least something good happened recently. My sister—or at least, that’s what they say she is—came back after hearing about my miraculous recovery.

She brought so many gifts that my room was practically drowning in them. Expensive fabrics, rare books, exotic sweets—things I wouldn’t have even touched in my past life.

Not that I’m complaining.

Though, even with all these distractions, I still can’t shake what Lucien told me that night.

"The outside world… the rich are brutal."

I’ve started paying more attention. Listening to the conversations of the servants, watching how my father and mother handle affairs.

It didn’t take long to figure out something important—Lucien Baldovery has never been seen outside this estate.

Not even once.

The only times he ever left? He was covered in a disguise, surrounded by bodyguards who made sure no one got a glimpse of his face.

…So we really were the same.

In my past life, no one had ever seen my true face either. I was nothing but a shadow, a nameless legend in the underworld.

Here, though…

My face could be a weapon.

At least, that’s what my father told me.

I swirl my tea, watching the amber liquid ripple.

Oh well.

For now, I’ll just enjoy my peaceful days.

Young Master, the Madam is looking for you."

I glance up from my tea, the maid standing patiently by the door.

Guess tea time is over.

With a sigh, I stand, setting the cup down gently. "Alright."

As I walk through the estate, I can’t help but marvel at how big this place is. How rich do you have to be to own something like this? No wonder the original Lucien was spoiled rotten.

I reach my mother’s room, knocking lightly before stepping inside.

"Mother, I’m here."

She smiles warmly. "Great, Lucien. Sit down. I have some important news to tell you—but let’s wait for your father and sister first."

Important news?

I take a seat across from her, watching as she gracefully sips her tea.

While waiting, we talk about my day. I stick to safe topics—reading in the garden, playing with the cat, the gifts my sister brought. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Then the door opens.

My father and sister step in, their usual warmth momentarily replaced with something… serious.

They sit down without a word, their expressions unreadable.

Something’s off.

What the hell is going on here?
